It's always a bummer to me when a young, promising pitcher goes down with a serious injury. He'll probably never be the same and will never realize what could have been.

You know, I used to dislike Stewart for trying to be Nascar's "bad boy," but I've realized that the guy just can't catch a break (just started getting back into NNC from 5ish year absence). Everything he does is scrutinized and the media gives him such a bad wrap because he won't kiss their ****. Bumping is part of the game, how many times did Dale win like that? Harvick should have been ticked while in the heat of the moment, but one would hope after some time (a day or two) he'd understand. And it wasn't a super cheap shot anyway, was it?

Well, I understand it could be hard for a pro sports player to give up something that's a passion, but if they can't hack it when they're in their twilight (definitely exceptions, see Barry Sanders) and have to retire what makes them think they can just jump back in after an extended absence? To that end I will agree with Jazinho's comment.

I have no doubt he will be a great player in the near future, but even I agree that this is a lot of money. But then again, once he grows/gets used to his frame he could become a dominant player. Watching how he has progressed from here at UMaine (Go Blue) to now is incredible. He literally came out of nowhere and had a huge growth spurt ~4 years ago and is just now getting used to his size and being a physical front-of-the-net player. Who knows, maybe the investment will pay off in a few years, but I'm sure that $4 mil now for him is too much. I would have backloaded the contract if he meets certain achievements.

Wow, that is a terribly written article. Did a paid, college educated journalist actually write that and not intend for it to be satire? "Who ya gonna call?"

He should not be in the HoF for 3 good seasons (one great) and one average one, with 3 more forgettable ones.

I've seen this guy first hand many times, and he is nasty. The article is dead on saying he can't just waste in the minors and behind Luongo for years- in 2 years this guy can be a #1 somewhere.

goCanada - I would argue that Gomez was not our best forward. I would probably say that overall Elias or Parise would be. Gomez has good playmaking ability, but his loss won't ruin the team.

As for Rafalski, that one will hurt some, but we have depth at D and hopefully won't be too worse off than last season.

Sutter is an unproven NHL coach, so what does he have to lose? I would assume it's his dream to coach in the NHL, and if this is the only offer on his plate why not? You have to start somewhere, and coaching the Devils isn't as bad as it would seem.

Sure it has something to do with Samuel- clearly, this is insurance for the Samuel hold out. Troy Brown is a proven CB and will undoubtedly fill in for Asante without missing a beat.

Yes, that was sarcasm. But in seriousness I think Troy deserves a roster spot and I like this move, even if we're overflowing with WRs.

Would love to see Johnny Mac be coach. He's been an assistant for a while now so he has seen what it takes. Keep the culture of the team going- home grown talent. Besides, how many other people out there actually say they WANT to be the Devils coach?

What the Devils need most is offense. I think Souray would be a good fit with us, despite his defensive liability. We have a young crop that can cover him. Those one or two goal games the Dev's have trademarked are not only risky but can go either way in the win/loss column quite easily.
