Versus paid the league to show the games. NBC doesn't. It splits the money it and the NHL generates from going out and trying to sell advertising. That's why the games are on Versus in the U.S. No one else wants to pay for them. But for my money, it's the Center Ice package and the NHL network on cable, and internet radio for the rest. ESPN? Don't need it and don't want it.

When hasn't the Leafs front office faced a facelift? This is like the "New Effort to Keep Predators in Nashville" stories we see every other day. The only thing missing is the Leafs GM standing next to those Predators fans in the accompanying picture. Back up the truck already.

Two weeks into the season is always too early to doubt your goaltender.... unless he starts giving up goals from the blue line during warmups like Dan Cloutier last season. Mason's D-men need to do a better job and the Preds need to score more. Remember Fuhr and Moog would give up 6 or 7 a night with the full confidence that their teammates would post a 9 or 10 on the board when the game was done. Now the Preds are more Dave Lumley and Risto Siltanen than Gretzky and Mess, but the idea is the same. Keep your opponents on defense.

For a player who was selected in the supplemental draft out of U of Western Ontario, he contributed more to the Ducks than Chad Kilger, taken with the club's first pick in the regular entry draft. A solid player who gave his line a strong defensive presence. More than points, Rucchin played with courage and consistency that can equal or surpass a player's point total. Not overly productive? Now that's a joke.

They've given away more goalies on their way up to get No. 1 goalies on their way down. But they all look good on the golf course in Pacific Palisades and Rolling Hills Estates in mid-February. Cristobal Huet, wasn't he a ...? Yes, he was. Manny Legace was here, too. So was Robb Stauber, but he spent more time at the point than in the crease. Ugh.

BauerStar33, don't confuse your fantasies with reality. Reality is that the Predators, however much their ownership situation has been muddled, drew well among paying fans. It was the corporate or luxury box types who did not show up. If you want to move a team or two, look at the Islanders and Devils. What is that, seven cups between them and both of them struggle to draw above 10,000 unless they are playing the Rangers, and I am no Rangers fan. Islanders' TV ratings are in the toilet and the Devils' ratings are hanging on the rim. The Rangers, love em or loathe them, rule the market. Only one team should be in the NYC area.

So fantasize about the Devils or Islanders filling the arena of your dreams. They are the ones that should be backing up the truck right now.

Move them back to Montreal. If people are afraid to venture into Southeast section of DC, then that tells you more about the city's government and its landlord, Congress. People just assumed Montrealers had no sense of passion for baseball (forgetting the Montreal Royals, Jackie Robinson, and the city's adoption of the Le grande orange. In fact, I thought Youpie was a perfect reproduction of Rusty Staub). Heck, some of my family thought my friends and I were crazy to head to Comiskey Park at night during the rough years on the South Side Perhaps if the White Sox had been playing on more of those nights, we might have had more credibility.

Sounds like a trial balloon by the current Predators owner to give the new group a push to get their act together. In other words, scare the fans and tweak the suitors by using the media to stir things up. We heard previously Balsillie had all the paper work ready, that is, except the binding letter of agreement. So, in other words, nothing can be taken to the bank yet.
