Typical ignorant Yankees fan.
The fact that A-Rod supplied such great numbers at SS, and had speed on the basepaths probably makes him a much better player overall, but as hitters they're comparable.
That said, it looks like Manny's starting to decline, while A-Rod's in his prime. By the end of their careers, A-Rod will be the better hitter.
That said, almost every other team in the NFL cheats to a degree. It doesn't make what the Patriots did right, but it's definitely something to consider.
Either the Sox feel confident enough with what they have, or believe Schilling will be back in a couple months. If they really wanted a starting pitcher, I think they would've grabbed Livan Hernandez or somebody else on the market.
any extended period of time. Not something that often works for them..
If they go after Blanton, giving up a young pitching prospect would be a bad move.. "
I'd say Schilling worked out pretty well. Sure, he hasn't been truly great since the 1st season he came over, but without him there's no way the Sox win 2 Championships.
In any case, as hyper said before, making 1 nice play in the field doesn't by any means make you a great fielder. Say Nick Young of the Wizards shot a buzzer beating 3 pointer to give the Washington Wizards a playoff win. Would that make him the greatest 3 point shooter of all time?
I guess you didn't watch the playoffs last year.
I think Jeter is overrated defensively. It's a little hard to believe he's the worst, but I give the guy that wrote this report credit for having the cojones to come out and talk about Jeter's (lack of) fielding ability.
As for those who believe the "stat geeks" should keep their mouths shut and their opinions to themselves, the Red Sox are run by stat geeks, and have won 2 World Series' in the past 4 years, and stand a strong chance this year.
I believe Clemens originally said that he wasn't at the party at all, but later stated that he stopped by.
According to the nanny, she remembers him being there, but not for how long. She does remember Clemens' wife + kids staying over at the Cansecos.
There's some interesting stuff about Clemens in Canseco's last book.
He talks about how trainers would claim to give B12 shots, but were actually giving them steroids. Eventually, it became a joke, and even the players got it on it. Clemens and Canseco apparently joked around about 'B12 shots', although Canseco was fairly adamant about Clemens not using any steroids, nor giving him any.
There of course, are the syringes, but I thought those looked like they were kept in bad condition. Even if the feds found Clemens' DNA on the syringes, couldn't Clemens just claim that they were B12 syringes?
Canseco's role in this is really mystifying...his affidavit conflicts with the nanny's....God this thing is mess.
I just find that harder to believe than a lot of people."
You could argue the exact same for both McNamee and Pettitte. The question is who stands to gain the most by lying. Answer? Clemens.
One possibility is that Clemens is too deep in his lie already, and perhaps feels that there's no real, hard conclusive evidence that he took steroids, just a lot of witness testimony. I doubt that they could convict either Clemens or Mcnamee for perjury.
Clemens meets with all members of the committee, and merely days before the hearing, they decide Pettite and Knoublauch's testimony aren't necessary?
Back to Clemens though, I really do think Clemens has reacted really strangely. To me at least, he's gone about this mostly the wrong way. The statistics report seemed like a good idea to me in principle, but they might have wanted to ask for the opinions of a few professionals before circulating it. Now Clemens looks even more foolish for that. Don't get me started on the phone call either.
I'm not saying that Pedro was wrong in how he responded to the entire episode.
However, I don't see how you can justify killing animals for the sole purpose of pleasure, legal or not.
The focus of what I said wasn't really on Pedro anyway. Just that because something is legal doesn't necessarily make it 'right'.
You could argue similarly for cockfighting in the Dominican Republic. If you're unwilling to censure Clemens for participating in a legal activity, why should Pedro Martinez be criticized at all? Of course, I'm not advocating animal cruelty at all, but BASED on your viewpoint, I could state, cockfighting is legal in the Dominican Republic, ergo Pedro did absolutely nothing wrong.
I'd like to see the Sox give Crisp up for a young catcher. Have Tek tutor him for a couple years, and once Tek goes, let him start.
