Who knows, maybe Auburn will want him back in a few years?
I think the players learn early on that there are no real PERSONAL consequences to the personal fouls and so they persist in the hopes that it might just not be noticed and give them a big gain. I applaud any coach that makes the decision to punish the behavior. Those kinds of "mistakes" can not only cause injuries but they can lose the game. Look at Georgia with all their late hits etc... Without those it could have been a closer game. The rest of the team and the fans lose on those kinds of mistakes.
Every team has fans gone bad. Being an avid fan doesn't mean that you have to be rabid. There are some Alabama fans that can get out of hand and there are fans from every other team that are the same. When I was 6 months pregnant with my oldest child I had a Tennessee fan sitting in the midst of Bama fans that deliberately pushed me as I was going down the steps at Legion Field. If someone hadn't caught me I would have gone all the way down the steps rather than sliding down just a few. And when I returned a few minutes later, his wife/girlfriend apologized and then made him leave the game with her. Her comment was that he was mad because they were losing the game. Everybody has fans like this who just can't stand losing and don't do it well.
And you are so right about fans, not just from LSU, who are not grateful for a season that is less than perfect. There are so many teams that would just like enough wins to get in a minor bowl and would be grateful for anything they can get.
Also, yes some of the Ivy league schools have more but because they are not considered in the same league now they are not listed in the current statistical standings.
Yes, I did MY research before I posted. There will always be disagreements about the number of NCs from school to school and the numbers can be manipulated. To be honest, though a life long Bama fan, I had never even thought about the number of NCs we had until the broadcasters for the Texas vs USC national championship in the 2006 Rose Bowl. They were the ones to bring up Pete Carol's longing to beat ALABAMA to have the most number of RECOGNIZED NC's. So don't jump on somebody until you have done a thorough search to make sure you are right. And one of the websites I did go to was the University of Alabama website and that confirmed what I had learned about recognized vs unrecognized NCs.
The sad thing is this hatred of Alabama. You know when I started going to Alabama games when I was 6 or 7 years old, one thing that I was taught was that although we might be playing a rival, they had fans that cared just as much for their team as I did for mine. I can remember the classy fans from Penn State, Nebraska and Notre Dame even when things didn't go their way. I can remember the class of the Boston College fans when I went to see Doug Flutie whoop up on us and how the fans were gracious and helpful to a group of college kids from out of town. I also remember how the Alabama fans welcomed other SEC teams and non-conference teams into their home fields, whether Legion Field or Bryant - Denny. And Bear Bryant expected class from the players as well as the fans. I can still remember the trouble I got into with my Dad at an Alabama/Auburn game when I was 10 years old and I yelled War Chicken.
Despite some bad years lately and consistent losses to some teams, I don't hate them or try to find something wrong with them. And though I have a severe dislike for Philip Fulmer, this doesn't translate into a hatred of Tennessee. So I guess I just don't understand the hatred and jealousy.
I actually got MY facts from the real source, the NCAA website. I know it is too difficult for some people but all that you have to do is google is NCAA national champions. I did say in my comment that the University itself does NOT recognize all that the NCAA does. So not only do YOU need to check YOUR facts you need to learn how to READ.
So maybe that is the reason for the jealousy. We may have been 16 years without one but we still hold the record.
Saban is aggressively going after both in state and out of state talent and I think that is what scares Georgia and LSU fans. Richt from Georgia was upset that the Clemson/ Alabama game was in Atlanta, all because of recruiting. And it looks like it is going to happen again next year with Bama playing Virginia Tech in Atlanta for the season opener. Again, all for recruiting those top Georgia prospects.
And to those who were commenting about Saban's son and at the same time mentioning him going to USC. IF that were a factor in his family wanting to leave Miami, do you seriously think that they would EVER consider moving to LA.
As for me, I think any offer Saban gets, Alabama will counter. The money is out there and the desire for another dynasty will give the motivation. He's already considered the most powerful coach in any sport (according to Forbes) and that comes with what Alabama is giving him, and not just in material gains. That is going to be very difficult to negotiate anywhere else.
Although this was about an early commit to Auburn, Georgia is one team that tries to get early commitments from their Georgia boys. But Richt is the first to admit that it has problems. In an article discussing a top recruit that he missed that went to Bama, he said that any kids that show promise later on into their senior year tend to get overlooked.
With the early commits there is also the risk of injury in their final year and then suddenly your back to square one. Or if the promise in their junior year is not fulfilled in their senior year. A lot of risks.
And then there is Saban who is aggressively going after the Georgia recruits as it is still a just a few hours down the interstate from Tuscaloosa to say Atlanta. That was the reason for the Clemson/ Alabama game in Atlanta and from an article in the Crimson and White this week, an announcement is pending any day now that Alabama will repeat the season opener in Atlanta going up against West Virginia. Since Richt protested vehemently against the Clemson game, I would love to see it when he gets the news of a repeat. For Saban it's all about recruits.
I don't care what team it is, if a player is in violation of team rules or has flat out broken the law he should be faced with at least a one game suspension. It is hard on a team and can have consequences for the team as a whole when a star player has to sit on the bench. But, the pressure from the other team members for this NOT to happen again will be more likely to stop the behavior from being repeated. There's nothing like a 350 defensive lineman angry at you for costing the team a game. If it were me, it would make me less likely to do it again.
