Posted Tuesday December 10, 2013, About: Appetite for a Yanks-Reds swap
Homer Bailey is the Reds #3 starter - not sure what kind of player he'd bring them in trade. No doubt Gardner, but is Gardner actually worth a solid #3 starter, who hasn't missed any (?) starts in 2 years, and appears to still be getting better? Not in my book.

The Reds really MUST hedge their bets on Hamilton in CF - he may never hit .200 in the majors. "If" they trade Phillips, they must get more than a one-year CF in return. BP was 5th in NL in RBI's - if he's traded, the Reds won't be able to score, and their defense would be greatly weakened.
Posted Wednesday November 20, 2013, About: Allen blames atmosphere for Cowboys' struggles
Seldom does an organization have success when there is such a controlling leader who is micro-managing it. Jerry is too vain to get out of the way and let football people run the football operations. A non-football Owner/GM/Coach-Second-Guesser who doesn't know how to play football can't have the ultimate success they strive to have. It is not possible for people to perform at their best with big daddy constantly looking over their shoulders and second-guessing them or making their decisions for them.
That is their biggest problem.

Their second biggest problem is that they've continued to trust Romo to be the guy who can lead them. Despite his immense physical talents, Romo is NOT a dependable leader - he's a flake. I've heard a lot of knowledgeable football people opine that they'll never win a Title with Romo.
Posted Tuesday October 22, 2013, About: Ten teams bidding for Cano
What a LUDICROUS piece of wanna-be "journalism"!!!

Dude leads with a headline: "Ten Teams Bidding for Cano". Then his grade-schoolish piece goes on:
"could possibly draw interest to varying degrees from about 10 outside teams, including..."
and...
"Now, obviously, some of these teams seem less likely than others. But that's a pretty fair list of teams that have the resources and could potentially make the room. "

Writer cites NO teams that ARE bidding for Cano, merely names some teams that "potentially" could have interest.
What a piece of drivel!!!
I am dumber for having read this, and lamer for having spent a moment responding to it!
Posted Thursday August 29, 2013, About: Jones: I have the brain of a 40-year-old
So....Jerry would have us believe that all of his cosmetic surgeries - despite making him look like a zombie molded of clay by a grade-schooler - are working to make his brain younger? Sure thing, Jer.
Posted Wednesday August 14, 2013, About: A-Rod was prepared to retire, until ...
We must be mindful that A-Rod is being "managed" by his lawyers. We don't even know for sure what A-Rod wants, other than to always be the center of attention & rake in huge money.

The bloodsuckers.....errrr.....lawyers.... always get theirs. The more they can get for A-Rod, the more they get.

PREDICTION: After his appeal is heard, A-Rod's suspension will be reduced. Then he retires.
Posted Monday August 12, 2013, About: Dodgers may now top Cano wish list
Cano is not leaving NY.

That the Yankees do not have a lot of contracts extending beyond this season simply means that there are BAZILLION$ coming off their payroll. Even more Bazillion$ because A-Rod's contract is coming off as well after this season, once his suspension is finalized/upheld.

The Yankees are restructuring their team to build it around Mike Trout and Bryce Harper in a couple of years. Since they'll also need a SS & 3B for the future, they aren't going to let Cano get away!
In defense of Cano's numbers this year: he's been forced to hit 4th, with no protection behind him, and too few runners on in front of him. He isn't a #4 hitter in the first place, and having no one behind him is a huge problem.

Cano & his agent may indeed be seeking more than he's worth, but it is only money - and the Yankees have WAY more than anyone else. The Yanks are not strangers to giving a player more than he's worth!
Posted Saturday August 10, 2013, About: Have Johnny Manziel's off-field issues cost him Heisman?
Johnny Football is not likely to have the kind of season he had last year. A&M lost a superstud lineman, and JM won't catch people unaware this year like he did last year. Opponents have now had a year to watch film and gameplan for JM.

I do think Summlin is a fantastic offensive coach, and they'll score points - but the SEC won't overlook them this year as they may have last year. Johnny is going to find it a lot tougher to make so many plays with his feet this year.
Posted Thursday July 25, 2013, About: Yankees tired of 'insane' circus
I'd be willing to bet that A-Rod never plays another game for the Yankees, and they will void his contract and get out from under that albatross.... so they'll have plenty of money to sign Mike Trout and then Bryce Harper.

Sure, the Yankees are decidedly concerned about their image too, as well they should be - they have had as many known and strongly suspected PED users as any team.... Clemens, Pettite, A-Rod, Giambi, Melky Cabrera, et al. (A LOT more Yankees are on my personal "suspects" list. You know, Player A whispers to Player B where he can get some "juice"; Player B whispers to Player C, etc.)

A-Rod is lawyered up, and he won't take any suspension nor contract voiding without maximum fight. His saga won't end anytime soon. But he is GONE.
Posted Tuesday July 23, 2013, About: A-Rod evidence 'far beyond' goods on Braun
Yep.
Braun saw the evidence MLB has against him, so he cut a deal: he will admit he's guilty, and NOT file an appeal, if suspension does not stretch into next season. It is a great deal for Braun, and a decent deal for MLB not having to spend time and money battling Braun's appeal.

It is going to be VERY interesting to see what kind of deal A-Rod can make.
Posted Friday June 28, 2013, About: Draft's biggest loser
CBS Sports labels this "The Draft's Biggest Loser" simply because their prognostications were SO far off! So, they follow those up with some sour grapes hoping to wipe a little egg off their faces.

At #4 there weren't options "guaranteed" to ultimately turn out better than Zeller. At the very minimum Zeller brings amazing work ethic, intelligence, & size, and he's marvelous for "team chemistry".
Zeller will improve any team's running game, and he will find ways to score. He's still only 20 yrs old - he'll do what it takes to make it in the NBA.

Poster "The DJ" says "decent" doesn't justify a #4 pick. In this particular draft it probably does.
Posted Tuesday April 30, 2013, About: LSU leading rusher suspended indefinitely
The first couple of times an LSU player is "suspended indefinitely" it merely means "until the next important game when we might need him".

G-B: FYI, Oladipo will have his degree at the end of this summer. What is to be gained by spending a 4th year in school?
Posted Thursday March 28, 2013, About: The next big name on UCLA's list
UCLA fired Harrick, for reasons OTHER-THAN W-L's. Then, Lavin won a lot, but was fired because he couldn't win ENOUGH. Enter Howland, who got to three consecutive FF's, but could not sustain it.

It seems there are a LOT of "politics", "boosterism", and "famous alumni" involvement with UCLA hoops. For sure, it does not appear that "hot" coaches are lining up to interview for the job. Maybe..... the job is not as attractive as it could/should be?

Next up?
My guess - they hire Lorenzo Romar.
Posted Monday February 18, 2013, About: Te'o, Steelers may be perfect couple
Manti Te'o has been overhyped to the max since he signed with ND. Unbelievable hype, and not nearly enough on the field to show that the hype was justified. I don't know what the NFL scouts have actually been noting about his play....but I can't imagine they've thought he was first-round talent - even without the fictional girlfriend story.

Now, knowing that he was DECIDEDLY COMPLICIT in the dead girlfriend-but-play-like-a-hero story.... I don't believe he's a first-rounder. He had the ND hype machine making him sound better than he was for four years, then he conspired to make himself a broken-hearted hero to help his Heisman chances and draft position....e.g. in the name of fame and money.

I could be wrong, but I see a very very mediocre NFL career for this guy.
Posted Thursday January 10, 2013, About: Jones cites two losses in Ryan's ouster
There is only ONE reason Jerry fired Rex: Jerry has to make SOMEONE the fall guy - because Jerry AIN'T gonna take responsibility/accountability!!!

Posted Tuesday December 11, 2012, About: Oregon law complicates Kelly succession plan
Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, Jim Harbaugh, Pete Carroll have left college and found success in the NFL. Nick Saban did not "fail miserably" as was posted here earlier - but he didn't have much success. Spurrier failed in the NFL, Petrino was on the verge of failing w/Atlanta, Lou Holtz failed. The list goes on.

Unless the Cowboys get busy - fast - Chip Kelly might be Jerry Jones choice there.
Posted Wednesday December 05, 2012, About: Jerry Jones is thinking about coaching change
Jerry Jones is ALWAYS a likelihood to change coaches. Because.... he will NEVER be administrator to another Super Bowl team (Herschel Walker trades just don't come along every decade!). And...because....he CAN.
Jerry must ALWAYS have a scapegoat. Otherwise, he'd have to take accountability himself.
There is almost NO chance that JJ will not hire a new coach for next year. Unless...he can't find any more decent candidates to take the job! Andy Reid...no chance. If Sean Payton is available, and "if" he'd be interested...Jerry is all over him.
I also think there may be substance to the rumors that he has interest in Chip Kelly.
But, the head coach candidates who KNOW their stuff will want more control over personnel than Jerry is willing to concede.
Posted Saturday October 27, 2012, About: LeBron James: I want to be the best of all-time
LBJ decidedly COULD become the Best of All-Time. His combination of SIZE, SPEED, STRENGTH, ATHLETICISM, SHOOTING/BALL HANDLING/ PASSING is considerably greater than anyone who ever played the game.
MJ is hands-down the best ever. LBJ is bigger, stronger, and faster than all of those who are in the "greatest ever" discussion (OK Majic was longer, but not as big/strong).
I'm saying that with his physical gifts, LBJ certainly COULD be the best-ever. But a LOT more goes into "best-ever" than pure talents. LBJ needs several more years of incredible production and more Titles to earn the label "best-ever".
When LBJ can win Titles without two or three other All-Stars on his team... he can move into the discussion. But, since he has pioneered a new order - making sure your team has signed several other of the best players in the game - it is unlikely that LBJ will EVER play without some other absolutely ELITE players around him. He'll head to LA as Kobe's replacement in a couple of years... where D. Howard and an elite guard (currently unknown) will have his back.
Posted Wednesday October 24, 2012, About: Lohse open to significant change of scenery
Lohse had BY FAR his best year ever. He's 34, not too old for a 5-year deal. He is DEFINITELY going to get paid. Healthy pitchers ALWAYS get paid, because very few teams have enough pitching!
The questions must answer for themselves is...was this year an aberration for Lohse, or is he just hitting is peak?
The Yankees will be seeking a dependable starter to hedge against the health of Sabbathia, Nova, Pettite, & Pineda; and the Red Sox need starters; that alone drives up market prices. Several other teams are in need of starting pitching.
Lohse is going to get paid - even if Boras has to hold him out until the season starts, to wait for the first big injury that shows up and leaves a team down a starter.
Posted Wednesday October 17, 2012, About: Alex Rodriguez's Yankee crisis
All the hand-wringing about A-Rod is.... justified, but also premature.
JMO, but I think A-Rod's swing is still suffering quite a bit from his broken hand injury.

He won't likely ever be what he was a fews years ago, but he will be a decent hitter, hit some HR's and drive in runs, for a few more years. He just needs an off-season, and some more of the "fountain of youth" stuff that keeps so many Yankees performing at a high level well beyond what is normal for a baseball player.
Posted Tuesday October 16, 2012, About: Willis not happy with Millen's criticism
Yo, Mr Willis: Matt Millen DID manage to play in the NFL for 12 years, and he was a member of 3 Superbowl champ teams.
No, not a HOF'er, only 1 Pro Bowl - but a far more distinguished NFL career so far than Willis.
