Let's see...we have the faction that doesn't get that NFL contracts aren't worth the paper they're written on, screaming 'Finish it out!' and the other side screaming 'Pay him!'
Sounds to me like the Saints have decided that they're very unlikely to be competitive enough this year, so they're free to negotiate with Brees as a separate issue. Worst case in this scenario, should they manage to get to preseason or even Opening Day without signing Brees (highly unlikely), Daniel gets some more playing time under his belt.
Heh best? Try 23rd in the league. I'm pretty sure that's beyond mediocre, aside from the fact that they'd already clinched a wildcard slot and had nothing to play for.
Manning, first-ballot no-brainer HoFer and one of the best QB's of all time. Big Ben, not so much. And Elway isn't anywhere near the top 3. Top 10, maybe, but near the very bottom of that group.
Did I miss anybody?
...although, if he could learn to throw a steel bowler like a Frisbee, Hillis could make a pretty good Oddjob...
These guys actually have me rooting for the Pats. Now that's an accomplishment.
