I think that's about right. Tony has too much Favre in him. As I understand it Brett was his boyhood hero. Old #4 is an icon for sure but he was too much a gunslinger and not enough of a surgeon. If Tony could model Brees or Brady or Manning more and Favre less he might be able to win it all but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

No doubt about that. Im sure that how they found Romo. I know he was an undrafted free agent. Id probably qualify him as more of a semiprecious stone or man made knock off. Cubic Zerconia in the rough?

No news here. A lot of teams work out QBs this time of year. They get signed for camp to get enough arms in to run drills with all the squads and then released as cut downs come.

I betting Romo and Manning share your sentiment. Id include the last 5 Redskin QBs but up until RG3 Im not sure any of them knew what a safety was.
Posted Thursday July 11, 2013, About: Forte expects more from Bears
Stat wise Forte is in position to have a monster year if he stays healthy. I'm not sure that will really translate into more wins. GB is the class of the division. Chicago will be duking it out for a wildcard spot again. I think they will need 11 wins to secure a playoff spot.

The hit he put on Cutler last year bordered on criminal. This guy is loose cannon. Dangerous to QBs, his team and "the shield" alike. He has been known to literally stomp on peoples heads! Dirty, nasty, dangerous. I wish he was on my team.
Posted Tuesday July 09, 2013, About: Make-or-break year for Cutler
Didn't Romo get $25M guaranteed and about $17M yr? So Stafford gets $27M guaranteed and about $15M yr. That's pretty much the same bar is it not?

There's more than one bar. Romo/Stafford is the bar for good QBs with limited success.

Rodgers got $60M guaranteed and $22M yr. That's the bar for good QBs with a ring on the finger.

Jay is going get a bit more then Tony got and a bit less than Ryan is going to get, unless they make a big run. He's a good enough QB to win it all but until he does it, he hasn't done it. If he was drafted by the Giants or the Steelers he might have a ring by now.

$4 Billion certainly sounds like a lot but without any other financials it doesn't mean much. How much are the companies assets? What are the annual sales, annual profits, ect... I have no clue but that info would have been nice to put the debt into perspective.
Posted Monday July 08, 2013, About: Yes, Hasselbeck wanted to start
So Kerry Collins acquisition was just a way for Polian to pay an old friend some new money? You REALLY think they tanked on purpose? Then why carry Manning on the roster at all? Wouldn't it have made more sense to release him and save about $20,000,000.

You know who this move reminds me of? Vince Young. Don't be that guy Kap. You could be so much better.
Posted Monday July 08, 2013, About: The league's next $20M man
Further more, if they choose to franchise him for 2 years they would need to sign him to an even larger contract at that point. Barring a sudden influx of about 15 Andrew Lucks the bench mark is going to continue to go up. Injuries aside, it is in the teams best financial interest to sign him to a long term contract as soon as possible.

Here's another take... Who could they actually get that is better than Matt Ryan? Sure you could make an argument for maybe up to 10 guys who are better or could be better than Matt but you cant actually acquire them. There is no offer you can make to the Saints to get Drew Brees. The Redskins would politely tell you to talk a walk even if you offered your entire next 3 draft classes for RG3. If you are lucky enough to have a golden goose you feed it well and hope it never stop laying eggs.
Posted Monday July 08, 2013, About: The league's next $20M man
Its the simple economic of supply and demand. There are 32 Franchise QB jobs in the league. There are not 32 Franchise QBs in the league. The demand is greater than the supply and therefore the price goes up. Matt Ryan is going to get a $100,000,000 contract. The only thing in question is who will pay him.
Posted Monday July 08, 2013, About: Colin Kaepernick remains defiant in Dolphins hat drama
If I was facing a potential raise of $100,000,000 I would not being doing anything to piss off the people who pay me. Its disrespectful, immature and shows poor decision making. Now he goes on record and says he doesn't care what 49er fans think. I wonder if he cares what the Yorks think, what coach Harbaugh thinks, what his teammates think?
Posted Wednesday July 03, 2013, About: Best defensive player ever, or just for now?
Obviously its much to early to be discussing JJ Watt in this conversation. What I find interesting is that the author assumes LT was the best defensive player ever. No doubt he belongs in the discussion but for my money Reggie White was a better player.

Their career stats are very similar with a slight edge to LT in some spots and a slight edge to Reggie in some. Reggie does however have 60+ more career sacks. I know that pro LT guys will bring up the "redefined the position" card and while that's true IMO that's as much a credit to coaching as it is to the athlete. Nobody says Montana redefined the position, we say Walsh redefined offense. Obviously it takes a mixture of the two to be successful.
Posted Monday June 24, 2013, About: NFL will create Deacon Jones Award
This seems like a no brainer. Too bad it couldn't have been done years ago. Deacon deserved more time in the spot light. Wrecking ball on the field, straight class off of it.

Not only did the Shula apples fall far from the tree they turned into oranges when they hit the ground. I only recognize one Coach Shula. The Don is an all time great.

The Toronto metro area has over 6 million people in it. I don't think it really qualifies as a smallish market.

Why should I hate Goodell if the NFL puts a team in London?

If not for a few nice field goals this guy might be 0-5 on the big stage.
Posted Monday June 10, 2013, About: Can Denver become the NFL's fastest team?
They overhauled the entire team. New GM, HC, OC, QB + about 15 other starters/significant contributors.

The fact that the organization needed such a major overhaul shows how good Manning must have been to consistently win with the team put around him.
