The U.S. national team will have its day. They've become much more competitive and professional in recent years against a broad range of teams from South and Central America to Europe. With more and more national team candidates playing in the best leagues abroad, there's reason to believe that we can field a starting 11 that's every bit as strong as England, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Italy, or any other country. And, when you think about the European teams that our national team has played and beat, the only teams missing from our resume are the biggies, the powerhouses. I imagine we'll be playing those teams soon, and we'll be competitive against them.

Define IRONY: a French football manager, currently managing in England, complaining about there being too many foreign managers in English football.

Classic.

And as for the line about the proliferation of less storied national programs into the international game, Mr. French can go to hell.

U.S.A., U.S.A., U.S.A.!!
Posted Tuesday May 27, 2008, About: Owens to Raiders in 2009?
Not happening.

As much as I did not like Terrell Owens before he came to Dallas, he has been nothing short of a stand-up guy since his arrival in Big D. I think he's finally found his home, and ironically, it's with the team whose 50-yard-line star he disrespected oh so long ago. Whether or not anyone wants to hear it, he's grown up a lot.

Posted Saturday May 10, 2008, About: Ellis defends Cowboys' Williams
Uh oh.

Roy just confirmed our worst fears. He doesn't even believe that he can play the position anymore. And, he's taking advice from crybaby Greg Ellis.

If it's possible, I'd like to see the Pokes move Roy via trade, slide Hamlin over to SS, and play Pat Watkins full time at FS. The difference between SS and FS is not the same as it used to be. I think Hamlin has the size and speed combination necessary to be a modern day SS. And, Watkins can play a respectable center field.

I really hope the Kiwi doesn't suck, or this one's gonna come back to bite RBNY in the ass. As an RBNY fan who doesn't live within the NYC media area, I haven't much about him (the team site is terrible) except that he was supposedly our best pick since Jozy.

Go Philly Athletic - 2010!!
Posted Wednesday April 30, 2008, About: Why do people hate Flyers?
So the general consensus in here seems to be that Flyers' players and fans are "dirty", "rough", and "classless." Oh, and the city of Philadelphia is a hell hole.

First impression, there are a lot of people with issues here. We're talking about a game. And not just any game, but HOCKEY!!! I remember the days when people were only interesting in the fights, when people were on the edge of their seats at first sign of a possible goalie fight. When did hockey fans get so soft?

And as for this team of Flyers, they've been the furthest thing from dirty. The one legitimately cheap shot that I've seen since the start of the playoffs was Derian Hatcher's boarding, and he and the team (2 PP goals against) got punished for it. If you wanna talk about cheap, then let's talk about Ovechkin's and Kovalev's dives. They should each win an Oscar for their acting. And as for dirty, let's talk about the opposing fans throwing food and beverages on Flyers players.

Folks, the Flyers are getting a bad wrap here.

Go Flyers!
Posted Monday April 28, 2008, About: Flyer's taunt irks Carbonneau
While I did not see the "taunting" myself, I'd be ridiculously surprised if Carbonneau wasn't just blowing this out of proportion for the sake of motivating his lifeless team. Kimmo Timonen is among the classiest, most savvy players on the Flyers, a guy so stoic that we seldom see him celebrating when the team does anything well. Hard to believe.

I really believe that the Habs did not expect the Flyers do come at them so hard so quickly. Maybe it was arrogance about being the #1 seed. Maybe it was lowered expectations because the Flyers had just finished a grueling 7-game series. I don't know why but the Habs have just looked completely overmatched since the puck dropped to start Game 1.

Whatever the case, the Flyers won't be distracted by Carbonneau's French Canadian antics. What a ****.

Go Flyers!
Posted Monday April 21, 2008, About: Red Sox consider benching Lugo
Despite the general consensus of this board, the benching of Lugo will not be permanent. The Sox have no intention of keeping Lowrie in Boston for the rest of the season. He'll be sent back to Pawtucket and probably won't see Boston again until after the All-Star break, barring injury. I love the Sox and would like nothing more than to see Lugo sit for good, but it's just not gonna happen. I know the Sox too well.
Posted Wednesday April 16, 2008, About: Agent: U.S. soccer needs tinkering
Soccer is sooo second-class that Mr. Steinberg felt the need to comment on it. If you think that the sport is such a waste of time, while bother to comment, windbag!

The problem is not the game. The game is just fine. In fact, the quality of play in MLS has drastically improved each of the past 2 years, due in the large part to some serious improvement amongst American players and to the willingness of MLS to spend some money on quality talent for a change. Paying players more money not only helps keep America's best stateside, but also makes MLS an attractive destination for foreign talent.

So I repeat, the game is fine.
Posted Sunday March 30, 2008, About: Seattle FC chasing Thierry Henry
While I am somewhat skeptical, this actually does seem possible.

Thierry Henry is already filthy rich so the argument that money talks is a bit weak. He is on record as saying that he loves America, and he's good friends with fellow Frenchman Tony Parker, even attended his wedding.

The aspect of this rumor that I question is the interest in playing for Seattle. Henry has said that he loves Texas, where Parker plays pro ball. Also, the majority of Europeans who come to America are most fond of New York and Los Angeles. If he does sign with Seattle, he is leaving behind 5 teams (RBNY, LA Galaxy, Chivas, FC Dallas, and Dynamo) which would be much better, more natural fits.

Regardless, I like the move for MLS, for Henry, and for Seattle. Here's hoping it comes to fruition.
Posted Saturday March 15, 2008, About: Dolphins or South Beach Cowboys?
I'm a Cowboys fan, and this doesn't bother me at all. Half of these guys (coaches and players) that Parcells is bringing to the Sunshine State couldn't hack it in Big D. Nate Jones was a backup to a backup. Keith Davis tried to start for Dallas and failed miserably multiple times. As for the staff, most of them were in Dallas for Parcells' entire tenure and couldn't craft a winning formula with one of the most talented, yet unpolished teams in the entire league. Ferguson has been the only good pickup so far for Miami, and he spent nearly the whole '07 season on IR. Considering the fact that New England is good, Buffalo is improved, and the J.E.T.S. are improved, I wouldn't be surprised if the Dolphins don't win a single division game in '08.

Go Cowboys.
Posted Saturday March 15, 2008, About: Steinbrenner: Papelbon's 'a mouse'
If I'm Papelbon, I'm not the least bit offended. That's one of the worst comebacks I've ever heard. I think Papelbon was right. lol
Posted Friday March 07, 2008, About: Pacman wants to be a Cowboy
I'm a Cowboys fan and frankly I can't stand T.O.'s off-the-field antics. However, he has been leaving his bad attitude off the field since coming to Dallas, and that's all that matters to me. If Pacman is willing to do the same for a cap-friendly contract, I'm all for bringing him to Big D. He'd add depth at CB and give us a real KR/PR for the first time in awhile.

How bout them Cowboys?!
Posted Saturday March 01, 2008, About: Steinbrenner: Sox Nation propaganda
The funny thing is while I expected that another Steinbrenner might well be just as much of a blowhard as Georgie Porgie himself, I never would've guessed that Hank or Hal would actually rival George. Despite being a devout Red Sox fan, I actually feel bad for Brian Cashman. No GM should have to work for **** like the Steinbrenner clan.
Posted Sunday February 24, 2008, About: Sox want pitching for Crisp
I'm having a hard time understanding the logic behind the Sox feeling as though they need to add more pitching. While it's true that you can never have too much starting pitching, it's also true that Lester should be much improved in '08, Buchholz should give the Sox at least league-average production from the 5-hole, and Tavarez makes an adequate #6 on the depth chart.

The only thing I can think of is that the Sox want an MLB-ready starter at Pawtucket, a role that Buchholz likely would have filled if Schilling were healthy. The dilemma with this line of thinking however is that whoever you add has to be better prepared to fill a spot in the 5-man roster than Buchholz. And, I'm not sure that there's a guy out there who fits that description who could be had for a package centered around Crisp.
Posted Friday January 18, 2008, About: Fans push for Philly franchise
While I agree that the huddle of South Philly stadiums would be the best location for the proposed soccer stadium, there's no telling what factored into the decision to place it in Chester. Maybe the investors wanted it outside of Philly. Maybe Philly didn't want anything to do with it. Who knows? As a devout soccer fan living within 2 hours of both Philly and Harrison, NJ (the location for the new Red Bull Park), I really hope the state government approves the $30M in funding.

P.S. I am also a signatory of the Sons of Ben petition.
Posted Sunday December 30, 2007, About: Kazmir's Rays future uncertain
When the Rays traded for Scott Kazmir, they officially got their "get out of jail free" card. Few teams in the history of sports have ever gotten the better of another like the Rays did to the Mets. So if they trade him, they're basically saying, "We really don't want to win... ever." A good GM knows this.

Go Sox!
Posted Monday December 24, 2007, About: Why Santana won't play in NL
Do we really need analysis of why Santana won't go to the National League?

No NL team has made an offer.

Done. But then I guess that wouldn't make for a good story, right?

Go Sox!
Posted Monday December 24, 2007, About: Big Papi: Sox won't get Santana
He was clearly being facetious.

The odds that the Sox get Santana before Spring Training are still good. Why? No one else wants anything to do with the Twins and their demands. No, the Sox haven't given in to their demands either, but the Sox have not refused to take their offers off the table (although I haven't heard much lately about the Ellsbury package). Unless the Yanks make it happen or another team gets involved, the Twins choices come down to the Red Sox' offer or compensation picks - not a tough decision if you ask me. Go Sox!

Congrats to a great, young coach.

Posted Monday December 17, 2007, About: Lakers' Brown still not ready
If a trade was a reality, any good GM would've traded him a long time ago. In no way am I accusing Mitch Kupchak of being a good GM, but I think even this is out of his hands. He now just has to deal with the consequences of acquiring Kwame Brown, one of the worst basketball players I've ever witnessed, in the first place. Nonetheless, go Lakers.
