You guys hear a term, think wow, that must be why Alabama is on top and don't truly dig into the numbers.
Said it before and will say it again... we had some players that were problem people. Other teams are applauded when they get rid of said players, we get criticized. We had some get hit by career ending injuries. We had players (a lot more than pretty much any other team) that left after their 3rd year on campus to go to the NFL.
Are we not allowed to replenish like other teams? When you cut out those TRUE situations that are just like any other teams, you come to a really small number that you can pick at and say "Oh, you have no real reason for that!"
Just quoting numbers does not mean anything without looking at the details. But, I'm sure someone will just say, "The numbers don't lie! You're oversigning!"
There was a study done of tweets as Alabama won the BCS CG. The instances of Roll Tide, or some combination were very, very high. The instances of SEC, were not so high and virtually non-existent in the state of Alabama.
You will see instances at games of the SEC chant, but most fans of teams in the SEC are not on the bus of pulling for teams in the SEC over other teams. Now, I make a distinction between that and the talk about how the SEC is the best which makes whatever your team in the SEC looks better. I believe the SEC is the best and toughest conference, but I am not going to openly pull for a rival team.
But, we are realists and if we wanted every team in the SEC to be bad, and they went on a long run of performing poorly in Bowls, BCS CGS, interconference games, then eventually, people would consider them not the best. And no SEC team fan wants that.
2013 - Oline needs rebuilding. QB coming back. T.J. Yeldon big time RB coming back. Receivers all coming back. New talented RBs coming in.
Defense - > Not as good as 2011, but fully expect to be as good as 2012. NT leaving Senior, we have a good one behind him, not sure if as good. BCS CG defensive MVP CJ Mosley coming back. Milliner leaving. Talented DBs coming back.
There's going to be some rebuilding. But as Coach Saban says, if they can believe in themselves and the team, they can be a very good team.
2013? Good chance to go back to BCS CG. Hard to do. But as good or better than the chance they had this year. Weak schedule, but after 2009 and 2010, we deserved a few easy schedules.
Unless you watch the games, you have no idea how they are played. These teams might not win, but you know you have been in a physical game, regardless. There's a difference in just winning and winning a game where the other team plays very hard.
One thing and I'm sure people will laugh, but even the Western Kentucky game. We won 35-0, but those guys were hitting like they thought they could beat us. There wasn't many missed tackles in that game. It was a tough gut it out game. Their offense was not as good as their defense and they wore down, but it was a very hard hitting game. Everyone commented on how hard they hit.
You may argue the schedule which you are doing, but you can't argue the results. They come out and played like champions on 1/7/2013. And they came out and played like champions last year, too.
One thing I'll say and I said this about the Michigan game and I said it about the Notre Dame game.
Before the Michigan game, all the Michigan fans were saying, "Hey, we played and won a BCS bowl. We can compete for the championship." After the game against Alabama, Brady Hoke even said, "We still have some work to do."
Then, before the Alabama game, the Notre Dame people were all saying, "We can compete. We went 12-0. Our defensive front is as big as any in the SEC."
But, it is not all about size. At one point, when we were mowing people down early in the season, someone got a little creative and compared the weight of our offensive line with the NY Giants offensive line. It was the exact same average weight per position. Does anyone truly believe that we could place a college offensive line on to the NY Giants and they would have still won the Super Bowl? I know I did not. It's not all about size.
We play in the SEC. Yes, from top to bottom there is still a disparity of talent and yes, we have teams that are 6-6. But, you know what? Those fans from Mississippi State and Ole Miss and Tennessee or whoever, their fans really think they can play for an NC (Tennessee did win ione once a long time ago) at some point and they demand their teams to work for that. And the coaches of those teams and the players of those teams work their **** off to beat the other teams in the SEC. It doesn't necessarily mean they win any more games than a middle of the road Big 10 team (no offense to South Carolina who was in the upper ranks this year), but they make you earn your wins every week.
The Notre Dame defense was tired in the 2nd quarter. Our players saw it. The fans saw it.
Playing how the SEC does, they are a lot more prepared for tough gut it out games in the trenches. Especially after they get 3-4 weeks to rest and get healthy. Now, you're going to say what about Florida? What about LSU?
Well, Florida beat FSU fairly solidly and South Carolina beat Clemson solidly. Whether we want to admit it or not, teams sometimes do get up for games and play flat in others. Which is why Pitt and USC can play Notre Dame close and then look like crap in their bowl games. Which is why Oregon can lose to Stanford and yet most people still believe Oregon is a better team.
Everyone looked at Notre Dame and said, "Why are they missing tackles? They didn't all year long." Well, I'll tell you, Ole Miss and Mississippi State and other teams in the SEC that you guys look at and think they aren't any good? If they get guys in the backfield during a game, their guys make those tackles. I remember getting angry and telling friends, even during games against a 6-6 SEC team, "Trent Richardson cannot get any good runs, if we don't keep those guys out of the backfield!"
Actually, no it doesn't, because I know they deserved to be there and this year more solidifies that it was right that they were there last year, too. Showed the world they were the best team 2 years in a row, and 3 times out of 4.

Boom!!!
2014, they'll be good again.
