I'm interested to see who gets the starting nod at RB at tOSU. I know that Jordan Hall is still on the roster and has the most experience, but I liked what Carlos Hyde did in the 2nd/3rd string roles depending on the availability of Herron. At the very least I want to see him take the goal line carries because he showed off some power last season, something that Hall is not the best at.
I think I'm making a fair point, but let me spell out my idea even more - the Giants are little more than a tournament champion. Maybe we can talk about them as elite if we ONLY look at the playoffs, but when you look at the entirety of the 2011-2012 season, the Giants were certainly not elite.
The winner of the BCS game is referred to as the "BCS National Champion" - not the NCAA national champion. The AP refers to it's selected champion as the "AP National Champion." The only difference is that the BCS actually plays a game.
I don't know about people thinking about past championships as mythical... why would fan bases such as Alabama/ND constantly point out how many championships they have if they don't think of them as real?
I love me some college football, but I think I'm making a fair point. For all the complaints about the BCS, I honestly believe that they have only made the wrong selection of teams once - this year. Every other time, I have been satisfied with the choice of the BCS NCG winner as national champion. When you have a playoff too big, then you open up the chance of having a team win that everyone knows is little more than a tournament champion, rather than a true champion.
I think one thing people forget about a playoff system is that sometimes you still end up with debate about who is the best. College basketball is a great example - how many people actually believe that UConn was "the best" team in the NCAA last year?
Fair enough. I didn't realize that Clemson was losing that many players - I did some research, but I guess I glossed over those bits. After looking at your points, you're probably right.
I forgot that only FSU's players will improve, and that only FSU's players suffered injuries last year. How could I have overlooked such an important factor?
If I wanted to lay money on one of the lower teams, I'd lay out on Clemson. Reasons - weaker conference in the ACC, dominated the only other team I take seriously as an ACC title contender in VT twice last year, returning parts of a powerful offense, and an offseason and preseason to hopefully up their defensive game.
Does anyone else have trouble taking Texas A&M vs. Texas seriously as a rivalry? It's hard for me to think of a series where one team has more than double the wins of the other as a rivalry series.
"What has Tyron Mathieu done LATELY?" is the question. Sure, he had some big plays earlier this season, but he hasn't really been more of a standout than RGIII or even LaMichael James in recent weeks. LSU gets it done with team defense more so than one guy being overly great.
This is back-to-back years where Boise had a serious chance to force themselves into the national title conversation and choked in its biggest game of the season. I won't say that they aren't any good, but this is back to back seasons wrecked by an allegedly "inferior" team.
Talk about disappointing. I think we can stop the Braxton Miller = Terelle Pryor comparisons, because TP would have played through a light ankle injury.
I'm glad that Wisconsin will finally be playing someone inside the top 100 of FBS this week. Hopefully those games against UNLV and South Dakota prepared them for Nebraska.
