Posted Thursday August 11, 2011, About: Pujols coming up empty like never before
Big Albert Pujols is not the dominator we have seen for the past decade and it seems he has faded away. First of all, he has only one World Series for a team that isn't usually in the playoffs and always has to struggle to make it in. So why is Albert struggling now after all those great years? Well, he's only thirty years old so that can't be it but I think it's because of his injury and he is not really trying. He isn't running out ground balls and he has to be congratulated for a sacrifice fly? This guy is the same Cardinal who is the face of the franchise and has been the best player in baseball since 2004. This is crazy. He is still the Albert Pujols who will finish in the top three in home runs and runs batted in by the end of the seaseon. So he hasn't been playing well in these crucial games and he isn't likely to take his Cardinals to the playoffs but he is still the power hitter who is young and can take anyone deep.
Posted Thursday August 11, 2011, About: Kelly trying to toughen up Notre Dame
Not as much toughen up as make more aggressive. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are not an aggressive team at quarterback or in the defensive backfield against the pass and they need to be better in those categories. Brian Kelly is a great coach and I am sure he can improve this team to make them a BCS Bowl Contender but I don't see it happening without a good quarterback. Tommy Rees was 4-0 as a quarterback last year when he started. However, Dayne Crist and Nate Montana combined for a poor 4-5 record against the rest of the schedule which featured a few easy teams not at the same skill level of the teams that Tommy Rees faced. What I think needs to happen is both need to be comfortable enough with the offense that they can come in at any point in the game and hopefully can split time at quarterback.
Posted Thursday August 11, 2011, About: Grossman: 'Skins ready to take over NFC East
Wow, is Rex Grossman serious or is he kidding? He is playing with one of the worst offenses and defenses in football that has not improved in the offseason with the loss of Donovan McNabb. The Redskins have to play the AFC East this season along with the NFC East. We're talking about the Giants, who are weak but can still take these guys with the pressure they have always been able to put on Rex Grossman. Then there is the Cowboys, who have always been able to beat the Redskins and have a new and improved defense this year under defensive coordinator Rob Ryan who is ready to turn this team around to the top of the division. And then there are the Philadelphia Eagles, who have a dream team and virtually cannot be beaten. And lets not mention they have to play the Patriots and the Jets, who are the powerhouses of the AFC this year. Enough said. They won't be able ton make it especially coming off a 6-10 season where they lost their quarterback to the Vikings.
Posted Thursday August 11, 2011, About: Burnett solidifies rep as unreliable
AJ Burnett is so good and he has outstanding stuff but why can't he can't a win to save his life. He had four wins at the end of April while CC Sabathia had two wins and now Sabathia sits atop the major leagues with 16 wins and only six losses while Burnett continues to have problems with his 8-9 record and a bunch of losses where he gave up runs in the sixth to lose the game. He rarely pitches into the seventh inning and he always finds a way to lose confidence in himself at the end of the game. He is a mystery that cannot be solved. A guy with stuff like that should be dominating the league but he has no confidence and his stuff at the beginning of the game is not the sam at rthe end of the game. I think the Yankees should pitch him five innings because I think the problem is he gets fatigued a lot and can't finish games as he always lets them slip away from him when he is about to finish a good start. The pitching coach Lee Rothschild needs to work with him and help him get his pitches and confidence back together.
Posted Tuesday August 09, 2011, About: Ginobili considers retiring in two years
Manu Ginobilli has given the NBA his time and has delivered a few championships to the NBA. No, he is not the same player he was a couple of years ago and people have forgotten about him and the Spurs because they haven't won in a few years, but Ginobilli along with Duncan and Parker have done great things for the NBA and the league will be sad when they all have to retire. As for Argentina, they will be losing their top scorer and best player and will not be as much of a threat to the United States as the have been for the past ten years. Ginobilli could retire, but I think he could stay on that national team and play for his country to try and win a Gold Medal. He has many other weapons on that team and they have gotten far in tournaments before.
Posted Tuesday August 09, 2011, About: Iguodala predicts loss of season
David Stern has not handled this situation well at all. The NBA cannot reach an agreement and good luck to Stern hearing the boos next year at the draft. Derek Fischer and that players committee is doing everything it can to stop this from happening and Divid Stern is not letting basketball happen. I mean, how is the NBA honestly losing money every year. Tickets cost 200 dollars for the worst seat in the house and most games all seats are taken up with the exception of the Cavaliers after the loss of LeBron James. It seems very unlikely there will be an NBA season and I think part of it is the contracts some of these players are getting paid. Kobe Bryant has a huge contract and he should be willing to take a pay cut along with the rest of the selfish players in NBA to lower the spending on them and increase the spending on other costs the NBA needs to make to get a season to happen because everyone wants one and the players association and owners and commissioner David Stern need to do their job to make that happen.
Posted Tuesday August 09, 2011, About: Yes, the Dodgers are talking playoffs
How could a team that is in fourth place even think about talking about the playoffs? The only way they can get in is by winning the division which means they will have to go by the defending World Series Champion San Francisco Giants and that is nearly impossible. The Dodgers will most likely get swept by the Phillies and they are likely to trade Matt Kemp since they see that this franchise is going absolutely nowhere. They talk about the playoffs and they have the pitching to do it, but can they really make that push behind an offense that has handed Hiroki Kuroda most of his 13 losses despite an ERA of less than three? I mean Matt Kemp is the only one here along with Andre Ethier that can hit the ball and this team's future does not look bright. Clayton Kershaw is dominating the mound but he deserves to play for a contender. This team has all the pieces to win the division, but can they put them together and take down their rival Giants?
Posted Tuesday August 09, 2011, About: Guillen concerned about Konerko
The man is very old and has been playing baseball at a consistent level. Yes, sooner or later his body will break down from playing so many games over the years. That's what happens in every sport. But he is still good and if manager Ozzie Guillen wants, he can bench him a couple of games to get him ready for the playoff race they are about to start getting into. But Konerko is the star of this team and they cannot let him get hurt. He has been the star and the leader of this team for many year with Mark Buerhle and this franchise truly needs him to continue to play well if they want to win another title. But so far they have been weak and Konerko doesn't seem to have made a difference as the White Sox are barely hanging on in the division race. But Konerko was missed last week when the Sox got swept by the Yankees in four games without him.
Posted Tuesday August 09, 2011, About: Lakers should make Paul the next target
Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Chris Paul, and Andrew Bynum all playing together next year? Could it be possible that the Lakers are forming their own Dream Team like the Heat? Their team will be stacked with all-stars and the Lakers won't have to rely on Kobe and Derek Fischer to get it done when the game is on the line. They will have a point guard that is young and one of the top pick and rollers in the league. The Lakers will be a complete team because they have not had an all-star run the point since Magic Johnson 19 years ago. They will be a more prepared team and a quicker team playing under Mike Brown, who is still in search of his first championship ring, but could Chris Paul really look into the Lakers since Dwight Howard could also go there. I mean, Chris Paul's best friends happen to be Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire, so could he go to New York. It seems unlikely that he will stay in New Orleans but as of right now with the lockout, no one knows.
Posted Tuesday August 09, 2011, About: Tebow is the QB Miami needs
Well which Denver Broncos quarterback is it, Kyle Orton or Tim Tebow? I'm going with Tim Tebow. He could be perfect for that option that Miami runs and those formations that catch the defense off guard. Kyle Orton and Chad Henne are more drop back quarterbacks and that is not what Miami wants. They are similar to the Eagles in that they run tricky plays that are difficult for the defense to pick up. So, Tim Tebow fits this role because he was in a similar offense at Florida where he would option the ball frequently and use a tight end or receiver to run the ball on reverses. Tebow has the speed and has a good arm to work with Brandon Marshall, who used to be a Bronco but never played with Tebow. And in a division with the New York Jets and New England Patriots, the Dolphins will need a quarterback that is ready to play to beat these two defenses that rank amongst the top in the NFL.
Posted Tuesday August 09, 2011, About: Ryan blames himself for weak Cowboys D
Well, Rob Ryan is just preparing himself for the miserable season this Cowboys team will have under him this year. They were nearly last in total defense last year and struggled at linebacker and defensive coverage. Rob Ryan is a great coach and was excellent with the Cleveland Browns but the Dallas Cowboys are a different story and being able to handle them will not be an easy job. Ryan has to work with the same defense as last year and I don't think he will make drastic changes but he will get the team to a .500 record which will be an improvement over last year's 6-10 record and a last place finish. Ryan really needs to work with this team, especially when the Cowboys play two games against the league's best offense, the Philadelphia Eagles. But with the Giants and Redskins weakened by losses of Donovan McNabb and Kevin Boss, the Cowboys could place in 2nd in the NFC East.
Posted Tuesday August 09, 2011, About: Shirley: Nash may be content without ring
Steve Nash is like Dan Marino. At times he was the best ever and was one game away from the championship, but he never could win. That's the problem with Steve Nash. He is a two-time MVP and has a few good years left in him but he has never won a title. He is a definite hall of famer but he had great teams and was never able to win. He had players like Amare Stoudemire, Dirk Nowitzki, Shaquille O'Neal, Joe Johnson, and Antawn Jamison to play with and he never got anywhere with them. He still is a great player even without the ring and people can compare him to Dan Marino being that he was a great player of his time but never dominated enough to win a championship. He got the MVPs and all the awards but was knocked out of the playoffs every time. Now, with a bad team it's unlikely he will make the playoffs again and had his chance against the Lakers a couple years ago but after Amare left, it doesn't look like Nash has anything left.
Posted Monday August 08, 2011, About: Posada not happy with new role
Jorge Posada is officially out of the New York Yankees lineup and he will not be a designated hitter at all for the rest of the season. How hard is it to hit a ball when you don't play the field? Derek Jeter and almost the entire Yankees lineup other than Russell Martin are hitting higher than Posada, and they all play the field along with having to get hits. Posada is a guy who gets on base consistently but this year he has been horrendous and the Yankees don't need his struggles in the middle of the lineup of a team who is going to make a run at the World Series this year. But Alex Rodriguez is coming back so he cannot play the field right away and he could take the spot for a while and when he is able to play the field in a couple of weeks, Jesus Montero will take Posada's spot as the every day designated hitter.
Posted Sunday August 07, 2011, About: Robinson wants to play in NFL
I mean of course the Eagles are open to take him. They explore everyone there is to explore now with their dream team, but honestly, I don't think a slam dunk champion is your average running back. He's not that great of a basketball player and when was the last time a professional basketball player went to play football and was successful? I mean Dave Winfield was a three sport guy, but he chose one. And what would the 5'7" man play? It's just odd to think about a man that small taking hits from guys looking like his teammate Kevin Durant but he should think about playing basketball overseas first. As for the teams he's looking at, are they really that desperate? And why would anyone want a guy who has no football experience and will likely barely play? I hope he can make the right choice of not playing at all or playing the right sport.
Posted Sunday August 07, 2011, About: Favre has 'no interest' in Dolphins
Why should Brett Favre just walk back into the game of football and have an immediate starting job? No way. The Miami Dolphins have quarterbacks who are better. Brett Favre is not the same. He should not be returning to the game. If the Dolphins want a new quarterback, they have Kyle Orton who is happy to play wherever anyone tells him to play and he is on the trade marlket. Favre cannot make a return, he has nothing left in him and nothing left to play for. He had his run and now I think it is time for someone else to take over and have Peyton Manning and Tom Brady in the spotlight instead of a guy who has been in it for 15 years. Give it a rest, Brett. You had your three MVPs and a Super Bowl run and now I think it's time you turn to coaching before you return to play.
Posted Sunday August 07, 2011, About: Lakers' most valuable trade bait?
Many teams have asked the Lakers for Andrew Bynum. The Raptors wanted him for Chris Bosh two years ago and most recently, the Lakers have offered Andrew Bynum for Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic. Many teams want this man and he is a huge asset to any team that has him. Of course the Lakers want him, but they would rather have a big name player who can help them that isn't of big size as they are already stacked in that category with Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom. They need someone in the backcourt with Kobe Bryant who is better than Derek Fischer and can be an asset to the team like Chris Paul, who has also looked at the Knicks and the Magic as possible destinations or Deron Williams, who is open to make a move and sign with any team out there. Also, Dwight Howard wants to move to the west coast so the Lakers could use Bynum as trade bait for him since the Magic want to get something out of Howard after they lost Shaquille O'Neal to the Lakers in 1996.
Posted Thursday August 04, 2011, About: Hakeem suggests Orlando set Howard free (on the court)
Dwight Howard is a monster, and he is about to become a free agent next summer. And the Magic don't have good chances of landing the superstar because he doesn't want Orlando and has his movie contract in Hollywood and has been looking at houses. If there is not a lockout, the Magic should use every ounce in him this season and completely waste him so they can savor his final days and hopefully with some other players on that team, make a playoff run. He's a great player and they need to use him more because he could be spending his final days in Orlando and some teams needing help could ask the Magic for trades at the deadline this year so the Magic can get something in return for him so they won't lose him like they did Shaquille O'Neal in 1996. Hopefully, he will go West Coast and the Magic can receive talent for him to rebuild their team.
Posted Thursday August 04, 2011, About: Ozzie believes in Sox, admits he's crazy
Who isn't glad that Ozzie admitted that he is crazy. He has completely fallen out of the playoff race after seeing his team get swept at home by the New York Yankees for the first time since 1976 at US Cellular Field. This is getting bad for the South Siders and Guillen will be in the middle of this all complaining as he usually does. But he needs to relax and get his players going because everyone os out of sync and the team is playing their worst ball of the season. But they haven't fallen too far back because the Tigers are losing and the Indians are barely playing .500 ball in the past two months. So the White Sox do have a chance but they need to start playing like it and need to start playing like they care. Last night after being down 13-1 to the Yankees, they cut it to 13-7 and then got crushed again for 5 more runs. They need to play and win ballgames like they're in a pennant race.
Posted Thursday August 04, 2011, About: Magic wishes he hadn't retired early
Magic Johnson is one of the best basketball players to ever play the game and even if his career was extended, he still would have been excellent. It is unfortunate that he and Michael Jordan could not have gone at it one more year an Johnson really believed he has ten years left in him when he retired. Well, his body was in great shape and he was still an awesome player when he retired. He was still young and had all-star numbers in his last year. He could have even won moe titles if he had stayed around for the Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal era but I am glad he made the decision to retire for his health. He really was and still is one of the great guys of the game and will always be remembered as a great player even though he had more left in him.
Posted Thursday August 04, 2011, About: Why it's make-or-break in Philly
This Philadelphia Eagles team is gearing up to play some of the best teams in the league and to win the Super Bowl. They have spent 120 million dollars this year on contracts and have gone over the salary cap by 12 million dollars just to try and put this team together. It is make or break this year because all the stars are healthy and they will trot out Pro-Bowlers Michael Vick, Ronnie Brown, Nnamdi Asomugha, DeSean Jackson, and Cullen Jenkins. And not to mention Pro Bowl capable Jeremy Maclin, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and the leader in interceptions, Asante Samuel. This team is stacked and could be more lethal and past Super Bowl champions Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots. Of course they will face the three other teams who are stacking up for Super Bowl runs (Jets, Patriots and Packers) in the regular season so they will get a good look at their matchup for Super Bowl 46 or the NFC Championship.
Posted Thursday August 04, 2011, About: How Beltran is making teammates better
Giants newly acquired outfielder Carlos Beltran has not been good in his short tenure with the Giants. And the Giants haven't been winning many ballgames as they have lost the division lead to Arizona and will have to sweat out a playoff spot to the last day of the season to make it in to the postseason. Beltran definitely will not carry an offense that ranks 28th in the MLB and cannot really be improved even with the new slugger, but Beltran has had a positive effect and he keeps bringing his positive attitude to the Giants clubhouse and teammates are respecting him for it. His bat hasn't shown up yet but will eventually as it did with Houston in his last deadline trade in 2004. So this is just a start and Beltran will hit for a chance to make the playoffs for the first time since 2006 when he lost in game 7 of the National League Championship Series with the Mets. He has a chance to win and will perform at a high level for that chance.
