Posted Sunday April 19, 2009, About: Teams questioning Boldin's health?
I think it's a little silly to suggest Boldin's approach to the game is going to shorten his productive years signficantly. Seems like Hines Ward is still a top end receiver and he plays the most physical game of any receiver in football.
Posted Sunday March 22, 2009, About: Is agent to blame for Cutler mess?
Why do writers keep referencing Cutler's record like it's the be all and end all of him being a franchise QB. What's Drew Brees' record so far? Is he not a franchise QB because his teams keep producing .500 and sub-.500 seasons?
Posted Sunday March 15, 2009, About: Raiders reveal reasons for Kiffin's firing
Davis made several mistakes in his coaching hires, but he's still light years ahead of Matt Millen. A huge part of the reason the Raiders were awful for so long were cap issues that came about during their Superbowl run and signings like Randy Moss. Randy Moss is a great receiver and how was Davis supposed to know that the tool would quit on the team like he did? There's no excuse for last year's moves. They were clear desperation, but at least it leaves no question as to whether or not he wants to win.
Posted Saturday March 07, 2009, About: Barber speaks out on T.O.
I don't understand why Tank is always lumped into this group. Yes, he had the gun charges in Chicago, but I can't recall any issues with the guy while he played in Dallas.
Posted Sunday February 22, 2009, About: Raiders' high-dollar contracts irk teams
Actually.. if you're at all competent that's exactly how you negotiate. If you are directly responsible for a great deal of income to your company, of course you use that in negotiating your salary. You'd be an idiot not to.
Posted Saturday February 21, 2009, About: Door open for Plaxico's return?
Mario Manningham has a lot of potential and if he can step up his game and wrest the number two spot from Toomer and if Reese can add Housh, they'll be set. Smith is a great slot receiver and so is Hixon.
Posted Thursday January 15, 2009, About: Cowboys discuss releasing T.O.?
Would love to have him in Oakland. All that they'd need after that would be a left tackle and their offense would be solid. The defense is already good.. just needs the offense to let it get some rest from time to time.
Posted Saturday January 10, 2009, About: Vikings back in market for No. 1 QB
Personally, I'd put Alexander's downfall more on injuries and the loss of Mack Strong. Hutchinson is arguably the best guard in the league, but I don't think any guard is the difference between an MVP season and what we saw in '06 & '07. There was a lot more at work there.

The shots couldn't be directed at a nicer coach and more upstanding program.
Posted Tuesday December 09, 2008, About: Marty wouldn't mind being Browns GM
The whole comment is predicated on the belief that the GM equips Marty with a solid football team that can win the big one. Cleveland had one more year and then dropped to 3-13. They also weren't anything special prior to his arrival.

He then took over an awful Chiefs team and they were a dominant team for many years. He left and they were a team always just outside the playoffs, until another great coach took over.

Washington shouldn't even count. He wasn't given an honest shot.

We then go to San Diego. A 5-11 team prior to his arrival. Marty assembles a great coaching staff in Cam Cameron and Wade Phillips and turns them into a consistently dominant team. He leaves, they have one year where they slide a fair bit in regular season but it's deemed a success because they manage to claw their way through two playoff games (one of which they probably would've had a bye in place of under Marty).

I think it's far more likely that Marty has consistently had teams that he is able to make appear much better than they are.
Posted Saturday November 29, 2008, About: Bucs' Kiffin may join son at Tennessee
Huh?

Jon Gruden: Went on to coach Tampa to a Superbowl over the Raiders
Bill Callahan: Went on to coach Nebraska into the ground.
Art Shell: Is Art Shell. He'd been passed over for years and had no business coaching.
Norv Turner: Went on to coach San Diego into the ground. Still doing it as I type.

One guy ended his career in Oakland... Where are these "so many others"?

It was a successful Rumplestiltskin reference. I laughed pretty good at that one.
Posted Saturday November 22, 2008, About: Rodriguez to upset fans: Get a life
If I were in his shoes, I wouldn't have time to read all the garbage people said about me on some backwater internet site. One has to question if it's RichRod that needs to get a life instead of spending what little free time he has (I assume he spends the bulk of his time on his job and one would hope his family) on the internet finding out what people are saying about him now.
Posted Saturday November 22, 2008, About: Rodriguez to upset fans: Get a life
Oklahoma wasn't a legit top 25 team last year?
Posted Saturday November 22, 2008, About: Rodriguez to upset fans: Get a life
RR.. always painting himself the victim. It's nice to see he hasn't changed his MO of deflecting legitimate critism from the fans by focusing on the personal attacks against him made by the occasional idiot. I hope he finds it a little more difficult to get the media on board with attacking Michigan fans than he did with getting them all over WVU fans.

biminator: the man has no personal integrity. How can you attack it?
Posted Sunday November 16, 2008, About: Raiders' next coach should be...
For all those Raider fans hoping for a great life after Al, like myself. I think you need to look at the fact that Al's son is heavily involved right now, and likely isn't any more competent than Al. I suppose there is always the hope that he'll at least know he's incompetent and let football guys run things, but even that leads you to the occasional Matt Millen.

Personally, I think the Raiders job would be great if you're trying to make a name for yourself. You get prime air time. Everyone assumes it's Al's fault whenever things go wrong and if you succeed you'll look like a hero. Just look at the guys that have been turfed so far. Jon Gruden (traded for draft picks to a team in a position to win the Superbowl), Bill Callahan (got a college job with a respected program), Art Shell (It's Art Shell.. come on.), Norv Turner (got a shot with one of the best teams on paper in the NFL.. Though he's managed to make them look like garbage) & Lane Kiffin (Does anyone honestly expect him not to get a serious shot at a major college program?)
Posted Sunday November 16, 2008, About: Detroit in danger of losing Lions?
I actually wouldn't surprised to see the Fords do something like sell the Lions regardless of whether or not they're making money. Right now both GM and Ford are having difficulty maintaining enough cash flow to cover their operating expenses and with credit being what it is, they can't get financed for more through the banks. Selling the Lions would generate nearly a billion dollars that they could use to keep their company from filing for bankruptcy for a few more months.
Posted Wednesday November 12, 2008, About: Giants face free-agent decisions
I can't believe people are suggesting giving Jacobs the franchise tag. He's good, but lets be serious here.. they have three good backs and could easily draft another, if necessary. Ward has a higher yards/carry and doesn't run in such a way as to ask for a very short career. Ward would likely come much cheaper. There is no reason to kill your cap for a running back.
Offer Toomer a 3 year deal, allowing time for Manningham to develop and see if either Smith or Hixon can pass him on the depth chart.
Butler can go unless he wants to come back for reasonable money. I'd say the same for Webster.
Posted Thursday November 06, 2008, About: Report: Raiders cut Hall
I'd want him in a zone defense. He's worthless in man to man and even he's admitted his difficulty with it.
Posted Tuesday October 07, 2008, About: Plaxico shows no remorse
I love how all the Giants haters jump on this trying to make it sound worse than it is. The fact is, Plexiglass has missed plenty of practices (with "injuries) in the past and came out and lit it up on the field when gameday rolls out. He isn't overrated, as much as you wish he was. He drops a fair amount of balls, but so does every top receiver in today's game. The Giants can get by without him because they have ridiculous amounts of depth, not because he isn't that good. He also isn't going to go into the locker room and stir things up. He had plenty of opportunity to do that with the contract this offseason and he sat out, but never went off like Boldin or even Garcia. As for the "hire a driver" comments, it's a 21 month old kid. You don't just hire some random stranger to pick him up and take him somewhere. The lack of phone call is ignorant.

Also, can't help but laugh seeing the little sponsored links at the bottom showing Lions fans having IQs of 114 vs. Giants fans at 97. I guess Matt Millen became a Giants fan after being fired. If his drafting is representative of his IQ, he'd be lucky to hit double digits.
Posted Tuesday October 07, 2008, About: Davis-Kiffin feud doesn't faze JaMarcus
Outside of Wide Receiver, Oakland has a decent team. Davis is responsible for the draft and trades that got it there. He's poor at picking coaches. Everyone complains about the coaching carousel, but would Oakland be better off with several years of Bill Callahan (Destroyed Nebraska), Art Shell (come on... seriously), Norv Turner (destroying San Diego. Bet they'd love some Martyball right about now) or Lane Kiffin (Was looking for a new job in the offseason with Arkansas.) Certainly he needs to find a good one and stick with him, but I can't say as I'm overly unhappy with him turfing any of those four.
