Some of the select soccer club operate under a 501c non-profit status. Whatever!
Breakdown:
18 players @ $2400 = $43200
Less expenses for: = 5500
League fees
Tournaments
Home Assoc Fees
Field Fees
Referee Fees
Coach Travel Fees __________
Club Dues $37,700 per team
Coaches salary...let us say is half of the above club dues, $18,850 per team. Our coach had two teams so that's a nice $37700 salary for on average of 15 hours per week for 10 months max or $62/hr.
Not bad!
I will re-harsh my point about the top talent not being selected or playing soccer. By asking a question: In the top three sports in this country, Football, Baseball and Basketball. What is the percentage of "Black" talent playing those sports? Football - 70%, Basketball - 82%, Baseball is whole different thing. African-American numbers are down, this has to do with the whole "Cost-To-Play" issue, just like in soccer. The latin Black talent is there, but those players are of course from other countries.
I firmly believe three things are occurring here:
1 - Football and Basketball get the top talent because those sports are glamorized in African-American culture.
2 - Cost. In the sports (White Sports) were cost is an issue, i.e. Soccer, Swimming, Gymnastics, Baseball, Softball, etc. The percentage of White kids is around 95%. Those type sports feed the college programs, college leads to higher income bracket, the cycle starts all over again.
3 - Thus the water downed of talent in non-major sports.
Some facts about MANUTX: College grad, American of Mexican descent, daughter who played on a select club team for years, yes the cost does run between $2500-5000 per year. Select baseball coach, yes the fees do run between $2500-3500. The youth select programs are nothing but a tax free revenue source!
It always comes down to the money!
Regards,
On average the cost to play is around $3000 and that doesn't included travel, uniform, etc. Our USMNT is selected from the ODP pool, the local US Soccer Associations run the ODP selection tryouts, the select clubs are VERY involved in the local Associations and for the most part control the selection process or they don't stay in BUSINESS and believe me it's a business.
So the USMNT and DI College pool is watered down talent wise. Why? Because it comes down to parents (white parents) who have money for their kids to play. You think the raw talented players without money are being seen? Don't think so! Even Dempsey and LD have shared how they learned to play with the hispanics kids, some with way more talent. In Dempsey's case I know he played for the top club in the State of Texas. BTW, where was Dempsey during the Mexico match?
I sure would like hear/see how the Brazilian Soccer Association develops and selects their talent.
