4th and 2 on the 28 yard line, if successful, the play gets you the 2 minute warning with the colts having only 1 timeout left, which they would have had to burn immediately following the next play.
punting the on the 28 yard line would put the colts AT BEST 40-50 yards, from the spot they punted it from, and thats assuming they dont return it at all for yardage.
i keep hearing about how the defense wasent given an opportunity, of course they were, the colts still needed to a touchdown to win the game, granted they were closer than they would have been if you punted, but that whole quarter, peyton manning showed that he could carve up the patriots defense.
Belichick had 2 options.
A. Punt the ball and make peyton manning have to get a couple easy yards over the middle (because the sidelines are covered) and end up relatively close to where they punted from soon anyway sans a couple more seconds.
B. Keep control of the ball and try to end the game with it in your possession, frankly, if they make that 4th and 2nd first down, it leaves the colts with about 40 seconds with no timeouts to get down field after you would punt, AT WORST, thats if you cant convert another first down.
i swear to god all of these jealous teams are going to be talking about spygate for the next 20 years. the patriots went 18-1 without spying, spying isnt going to play the game for you on the field.
the rams got beat on the field, and the cardinals are going to get beat on the field too if he doesn't stop wasting time back in 2001.
why is warner bringing up a superbowl 8 years ago instead of focusing on this one? i still hope the cardinals win, but i hope the steelers wreck kurt warners face.
the lions who are looking at a complete team revamp anyway, would be able to fit 8 million per year into their cap easily.
the lions, who have 2 first round draft picks this year (their own number 1 overall and the cowboy's) and would likely be willing to trade one of them for cassel as well as their third round draft pick.
this gives the lions a QB who is proven and also allows them to use their other pick to improve another broken part of their team.
Besides the lions, there are other teams as well who would be willing to give up something to the patriots in exchange for cassel, teams without a stable QB situation like the vikings. there are plenty of teams who would love having a QB like cassel.
if brady cant go before the season starts, hes going to be the one on the trading block, not cassel, they probably will be able to work out a longterm deal with cassel if this is the case.
the patriots simply cannot afford to pay tom brady 14 million dollers to ride the bench for another season.
i know tom brady is a legend in new england and i want him back just as bad as everyone else does, but you simply cannot continue to sacrifice your season for 1 player, even if that player is the best player in the league.
i dont think people realize how bad boras has royally screwed the sox, if i was theo right now, im about ready to completely cut ties with all future boras agents and let everyone know how much of a prick boras is,
let the yankees bid against the low budget teams from now on, the red sox get all their stars from their farm system anyway.
DEAR JERRY: you are not the patriots, you arent going to bring in players like T.O. and Pacman jones and be able to successfully salvage them like randy moss.
Boras only cares about one client per offseason, whoever can make the biggest splash, he isnt a very bright person to leave so much of the red sox money still on the table when they would have probably played more than any other free agent for teixera in the end.
manny and varitek are going to lose money thx to boras being an idiot.
it is clear that the sox could probably sign varitek to under 5 million per year at this point because there appears to be no interest in him at all besides boston, the best bet would be to sign him for 3 years equaling to slightly more than what he would have made if he accepted arbitration, say, 12-14 million range for 3 years, this way the red sox retain their catcher for now and have him to catch backup and mentor whoever the red sox eventually get to replace him.
what happened when the offseason comes? well boras hasent put any effort at all into manny because hes been too busy to teixeria and whats worse! boras has just sold teixeria to new york which would have been the perfect landing spot for manny.
now the yankees arent going to need manny and hes going to be stuck with a worse deal than he would have gotten if he didnt listen to boras and stayed in boston.
the dodgers have withdrawn their previous offer to manny because they couldent afford it, its looking more and more like manny is going to end up getting a really bad deal, and its all thanks to boras for not settling with the sox brass on teix when they went down to texas.
as clear it would be to come people that he would want to contend with a winner every year and sign with the red sox, it makes just as much sense if he wanted to go to a team with no real star and become the face of the franchise, others seem to think he will just sign with whatever team offers him a couple more bucks with a free bus pass.
we dont know what he wants, the only thing we know for certain is that hes a boras client and hes going to get more expensive before he gets cheaper.
the real loser in all of this is boras's other clients who might as well be in the dog house so far. until teixeira signs with SOMEONE, they are being treated like a bunch of bums.
