What do Varitek, Damon, Pedro and Nomar all have in common? They where all basically cooked after they left Boston though Damon was a little bit effective. Squeezing? No! They are just smart and know when to let players go. So far everyone they have let go has proven to be a smart move. The reason they let Derek Lowe go was because he was an alcoholic and came unglued almost every time he took the mound in the AL. They also offered Nomar a large extension in 03 and he rejected it and im sure he kicks himself in the ass every day because of it. Next time know what you are talking about before posting.

In three years its highly probable that Paps could fall off. Closers go in and out all the time with the exception of Mariano. Im a sox fan and i think hes really stupid for doing this. In three years he wont be as effective. If he signed lets say a five year deal right now he would make more total money than he would in three years of arbitration. Three years from now he wont be what he was and the sox will let him walk. Hes a closer for gods sake his next pitch could be his last. Hes just being a greedy ****. The sox have enough young good prospect pitchers that could take over as closer in three years maybe sooner if Papelbon hurts himself.

That is in the running for dumbest idea of the year. Jon Lester for a catching prospect? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Have you ever watched baseball before. Bucholz for Salty is almost an even trade but Bucholz actually has more value. Most great pitchers have a rough first couple of seasons. Its very rare to just get called up and not hit any bumps in the road. Jon lester for saltalamachia is a joke. In the end i see bucholz for Salty getting done with some odds and ends thrown in from either side. Boston is just really exploring their options. Youre an idiot!

They shouldnt trade Bucholz unless they are getting Salty and another prospect back. A young front of the rotation prospect has much much more value than a catching prospect. It would be like jumping over a quarter to get at a dime. Bucholz was a top 5 prospect in all of baseball this time last year. When he puts it together the kids gonna be an ace. Texas is just trying to rip them off because they know Boston needs a catcher at all costs.

They moved Damon over because he can no longer effectively play center field not to mention he has one of the worst arms in baseball history. Hes not the player he used to be. Thats just stupid. Why would they give two pitchers after refusing to give one? If anything the Rangers should give them a catcher and something else for a Bucholz. Bucholz was a top five prospect in all of baseball a year ago. Even Masterson is worth more than just a catcher who has proved nothing.

Varitek is not worth 11-12 million a year. If they do resign him it will be for no more than 8 million a year for 2 years. Varitek is no longer an every day catcher so he cant be paid like one. The only thing hes good for at this point is showing a young catcher the ropes. The longer this plays out the less money hes gonna get. Its very obvious that no teams are interested in him at this point. The Sox are waiting for the Teixiera thing to end so they can get a better view of where they are at and go from there. I think they are going to resign Tek to a 2 year 16 million dollar deal and trade for either Salty or Miguel Montero to split time with him. Red Sox fans need to get over Varitek. I love the guy but he just isnt an every day catcher anymore and hasnt been for a while.

He still could very well be a front of the rotation starter in the future because he has nasty stuff. I think the question with him is if he can handle a place like Boston. I think they are just exploring all options before pulling the trigger. Why move him if you dont absolutely need to? There is a reason why teams want him so bad and the Sox want to keep him so bad. People around here (New England) dont seem to understand that players take time to develop. They think they should just be a hall of famer from day one or they are garbage. If they get rid of Bucholz for a catcher whos proved even less than he has that would be dumb. As a Yankees fan you should talk because you guys havent been axactley saints about Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy. Cano is gonna be awesome someday and the Yankees act like hes trash.
