I am surprised he wants to get the hell out of City this soon, maybe he is terrified of competition. He has looked completely lost this season so far, in some games he looks like he is trying to do too much rather than just play football.
BTW I liked Garber's answers. We have a setup where any team can win the title during the season, I like that. For those saying dont you want every week to matter - every regular season game DOES matter - look at what happened to TFC, DC, Rapids, Dallas.
Giants stadium may not be ideal for soccer but it has hosted bigger soccer events in the last calendar year than that little turf field in toronto.
As a mls fan i would like to see them stick around but for a guy like LD who is pretty much considered one of our few superstars, he needs to go show the world what he can do at the top level.
Someone told me a while back hbo did some special on the flaws of the youth team setups in England where kids are pushed to train as a pro from 8 onwards, but in the end only a few can make it to the pro level but almost all of them have limited education and do not possess skills to hold down a good job so they end up in poverty. So I'm not sure that type of setup in actually beneficial for the kids and appeals to the parents.
I honestly cant fault him for taking a huge payday but if he wants to further his career he needs to go somewhere to get better football.
Tough off-season coming up =\
I would go with people familiar with US soccer, this team needs to be built up from the bottom, we have a good academy, and are in a good region to attract more young players. Build it with the next generation of promising young talent. But with the new stadium the owners will no doubt want to try to win right away which will end up blowing up in their faces :( hell i'll just enjoy sitting in RBA with plenty of room around me :)
