I have never been a Tebow fan, but even as someone who was all but certain he was going to fail in the NFL, I would have rather seen him get a shot when the Jets season was lost and prove he did or didn't belong from the field rather than the bench.
The questions that come to mind are who would want a 10 million a year big man with multiple years left on his contract, that plays on offense like a SG/SF, has no interest in rebounding, and plays matador defense? You might as well put 2 SFs on the floor...at least they would play some D and try for a rebound occasionally.
Portland put the Pacers in a lose lose situation to get back at Kevin Pritchard....the NBA allowed this because of its broken RFA policy which requires no compensation and allows teams to punish other teams that draft well.
Roy is playing at an all defensive level for a team allowing the least amount of points in the league...Is that worth a max contract? No...but that is more the NBA and its broken RFA process that doesn't require compensation be sent to a team losing a player than it is the Pacers making a bad sign.
The NBA punishes teams that draft well in the middle rounds by allowing teams to make "offers" which in this case Portland was putting their former GM they hate in Pritchard in a lose lose situation where it was either let one of the most loved players on the roster and active community members walk in a season they are still regarded as one of the biggest threats to Miami...or do what they did and match the ridiculous offer they wouldn't have made if it included giving up their #1 pick as well just like every other major sport does in their RFA process.
Yes he did catch it...but it was a high risk low reward low completion % pass with a high rate of failure and no need for the call other than he thought his team had no chance of success and that set the tone for the game.
When your coach doesn't believe you have a chance you don't.
His name doesn't matter, since it should be second string next year with Gunner.
Look you start out in the 1st quarter throwing a deep fade on 3rd and 2 and don't give your D any time to regroup after that with any sort of drive and you are going to loose to anyone. He called plays like the game was lost before the coin toss....he didn't abandon the running game, he denied it even existed.
When you play a team with a good D, running a 3 man streak route with no dump off will get your QB sacked or if he is smart throwing it away...so basically about a quarter of his play calls were lost downs. I'm surprised Gholston had as good of a game as he did with just deep routes to throw to.
Devastate irish? I think his play calling in the NC game devastated them. Give them Diaco and an OC that doesn't give up pre coin toss and we have a game.
I keep thinking that but they just keep happening...
IMO if a player is traded in the last year of his contract as a salary dump or a S&T happens his bird rights should not come with him. That would pretty much take care of everything. You can still do it, but the team receiving him would have no reason to do it.
The NBA also needs to adopt a situation like every other major sport has where if you sign a RFA the team losing him gets a pick based on the the salary. So things like the offer Portland made for Roy Hibbert would have sent at least 1st rounder back to the Pacers since it was a max deal....with the projection of Portland to be a lottery team even with him I think the Pacers take the lottery pick and sign Kaman, you also have to wonder if Portland even would have offered?
What you don't realize is that historic rivalries are just as heated and important as in conference games. USC, BC, Purdue, Mich, Mich St, Stanford, whichever armed forces team they play that year, and I think some would make a case for Miami (IMO that rivalry is too far back to be relevant today) are all basically conference games for ND.
ND isn't facing OOC games against Ark St, Tenn Tech, or western carolina either, so they don't get what are basically preseason games and basically bye weeks....I think that you have to account for the fact that ND is playing nothing but bowl bound and BCS conference teams.
I'm guessing if this was ND on the end of a questionable call we would be seeing articles about how great the call was. I am a ND fan and will admit it was close, but unless it is conclusive the ruling on the field stands.
