I guess you won't have any complaints if Okla St. passes Bama after beating OU this weekend?
I agree that the SEC has been the dominant conference in recent years(since 06 in fact). This year, imo, they are running slightly behind the Big 12 in overall strength top to bottom. This could change after the bowl games.
Though I am a regular defender of the SEC against the myriad haters on fannation, I don't see any real defense for allowing Bama a rematch if Oklahoma St. beats OU this weekend. Ultimately the people/voters will choose and I won't be surprised if it is Bama due in part to the track record the conference has put up in recent years, but if OkieLite wins I think it would be right for them to be in.
I also don't think it is the point of the BCS to match the two best teams, which is entirely a subjective opinion. From what I have read about the instructions given to voters, it is to match the two most deserving teams which is partially but not completely a subjective opinion.
Again, I don't think we agree on what constitutes a real bad team.
On the Miss. St/UCLA question it is only conjecture, nothing more. Miss St did not have the schedule to allow them to play middling teams. It was either very good teams (who they played closely for the most part) or bad teams that they beat easily. You could say similar things about Vandy and their schedule. UCLA's schedule was a lot different and they won a couple of games against decent teams but they were all over the board in how they played, losing horribly in several of their games.
Being a Tampa native I really, really, like Lou Pinella and have followed his career since he was a baller in the youth leagues in West Tampa and Ybor. He is pretty much a legend around here. Great manager too.
But I think its a stretch to give him credit for what happened with the Rays. New ownership and management were primarily responsible and they hired someone who was good working with young talent.
Agree on the top but not so much about the bottom. The Big East has performed decently inter-conference over the years because their bad teams can beat other conference's bad teams. For the same reason the Big East has done as well or better than most other power conferences against non-AQ conference teams and FCS teams. They just have not been able to develop a high quality conference winner.
This year the worst teams in the Big East would be favored over Colorado, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Kansas, Indiana, Minnesota, Duke, Maryland and would be double digit favorites over 3 of the 8 MWC teams, Colo St, UNLV and New Mexico.
Just seems to me that trying to prove a conference is bad, or good, by games played within that conference is like trying to lift yourself by your bootstraps.
Our opinions just differ a little, maybe on the criteria for 'real bad'. I only think of Colorado as a real bad team in the PAC12 though I think the others you mention are all inferior to Miss St.
That is the crux of it. Since it cannot be agree upon which is more important, the tie breaker should go to making the game between two different conferences, imo.
Miss St has lost to LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, South Carolina and Auburn...won all the rest. Is that real bad?
Tennessee though certainly not a good team has beaten Cincy who I think may be 8-3. Vandy just blew out one of the better ACC teams.
I was only asking what evidence you would present to make a case that these teams were real bad. I don't see how you could use games within the SEC to make a case that a SEC team is real bad.
I can see where you might say Ole Miss and Kentucky are real bad(though Ole Miss holds wins over BYU and Fresno St out of conference), but who are the other two teams and what evidence would you present to convince someone that they were real bad?
Yep. That's why I think if OkieLite wins in impressive form against OU they have a shot at the BCS title game. Voters can be fickle with limited attention spans and Bama will be on the sidelines this weekend. If they get to 3 it will be close but think they maybe can make it to 2.
Bowa on MLB network said that most pitchers do this. It is a common practice and a bit chickensh*T by DJ to make the call on an ex-player of his.

But we do know that Bama lost to LSU, and on their home field no less.
We are only making educated guesses as to what Oklahoma St. might do against LSU. If they play on the field we would find out something.
Gators don't have a loss on their record nearly as bad as the Kentucky one for the Vols.

But the original question in my post still stands.
Most likely it will never get past 4 but I could see it making it to 8 on the outside chance.
