Yeah, yeah, Swisher doesn't do well in the playoffs. But you have to GET to the playoffs first. So I repeat ??? where are those 90 RBIs coming from now?
Is Jeter NOT a great baseball player? Is he less worthy of MVP consideration than any other player that has reached his level of excellence at his craft? He's a great player having a great season for a great team. Generally, that gets you mentioned in MVP conversations.
A-Rod: He'll get in despite the 'roids. It could be late in his eligible years, or by Vet's Committee. Basing this on the fact that he did admit to it, and doesn't seem to have used them for too long a period.
Pettitte: Could get in by Vet's choice. Great winning percentage, great post-season record. Admitted to two instances of HGH use, to overcome injuries more quickly. That will prevent being voted in by the writers.
Camp full of prospects, and the team captain shows up a week early to begin his workout. Think a valuable example is being set for these young players?
As a Yankee fan, Ortiz was always the Red Sox player I didn't want to see in a crucial at-bat, more so than Manny or anyone else on those great teams from a few years back. If the Yanks truly had a hole at their DH right now, he might be someone to consider. But they need that spot in the line-up to keep A-Rod and Jeter fresh, and to get Montero at-bats. The Yanks appear to have their DH covered with quality at-bats for 2012.
Gardner then Jeter is a solid 1-2 combo. Gardner gets on, steals, opening a hole in the infield for Jeter to hit through. Plus, they can always mix things up by having Gardner bat 9th and Jeter 1st, or Jeter 1st and Gardner 2nd. Should work out fine.
