Hmm, let's not listen to the pitching coach, huh Lou? Maybe your just partial to Gregg because you have already agreed to be shuffleboard partners at your retirement homes soon. Marmol is the superior pitcher at this point with upside and better stuff. Give the kid a shot.
Posted Thursday January 22, 2009, About: MLB denies steroid dealer's charge
24 days until pitchers and catchers report and we have to sit and read reports on Bud Selig, steroids and Kirk Radomski. Garbage.
Posted Thursday January 22, 2009, About: Mets, Yankees top Garcia's list
I think that this post should read "Garcia being concidered by Yankees, Mets". There is no way at this point that Garcia can expect to have a list lined up with teams chomping at the bit to sign him. With Pavano gone though, the Yankees do need someone to throw money at who spends the entire season on the DL.

Wow, back from a short hiatus (well, like a month long hiatus) and I come back and see Big Mac posts...What an aweful off season.
Posted Monday November 10, 2008, About: Cuban star losing luster?
No, No Sunny, Minnesota exists...I've seen it. Canada though, is a complete myth. Like rational Yankee fans...
Posted Monday November 10, 2008, About: Did Gold Glove ruin Rangers' plans for Young?
Yeah, Chilly, all you have to do now is convince Gardy to actually MOVE Casilla to SS. But he seems to have a crazy man crush on Punto, <cough "BUM"> and we will probably end up resigning him to play SS.
Posted Monday November 10, 2008, About: Cardinals: Holliday deal dead
Well, I couldnt have been more wrong in my forecast for Holliday. I don't see the logic in giving up Gonzalez, Street and Gregg Smith for Holliday when it is not Billy Beane's MO to pay high dollar free agents, which Holliday will become at the end of the season. That seems like a lot of talent for a rental. Being a Boras client makes it all the more likely that he will test the open market, I haven't heard yet if the A's are requiring extension talks before the trade is official, but if it isn't it looks like the Rox got the better end.

Nice, and you left out Jason Giambi....

Sir Robin, Should take a look at Carlos Silvas contract. That is pretty generoous.

Wow, a Royals Fan! I didnt think they existed anymore since George Brett retired! I guess all of those stadium pictures at Kauffman aren't photo-shopped...
Posted Monday November 10, 2008, About: Howard, Hamels may be hard to lock up
Ok, well, hate to say it but no, not anyone can play 1B, and secondly Hamels is the best lefty in the bigs? I don't know what CC and Johan would say to that, but no doubt he is one of the top 5 leftys in the bigs. My 2 cents, (admittedly I am tired tonight, so no long drawn out manifestos from me) Philly MUST secure Hamels if they plan to contend, arbitrate Howard and fill the other holes, LF, that you need for next year. Congrats on the championship, by the way, Philly.
Posted Monday November 10, 2008, About: Did Gold Glove ruin Rangers' plans for Young?
For some reason, Michael Young always seems to go 3 for 4 in like every game against the Twins, has a solid glove and I dont know what they are talking about better range with the new guy? The man just won a gold glove and had a solid season and now he is in danger of switching positions? Shoot Billy Smith and email or a phone call, we'll take him off your hands.
Posted Monday November 10, 2008, About: Burrell hasn't heard from Phillies
Let Burrell go, give up on Manny. We'll trade you Michael Cuddyer for Chase Utley....Yeah move Alexi to SS....Wow, I got to stop daydreaming.
Posted Monday November 10, 2008, About: Pettitte covering his bases
All of these Yankees and Peavy threads are making my brain hurt...Non-news worthy. Anyway, I will throw in my 2 cents. Pettite wants to be a Yankee, the Yankees want him to take a paycut. Moose is (rumored) to be announcing his retirement soon. A one year deal at MAX $10Mil should be enough to retain Pettite, he should be serviceable enough to round out their rotation and keep them in ball games. Pettite stays a Yankee, Yankees save $6Mil and they compete for the AL East title next year. Wow, sounds like a typical Yankee off season.
Posted Monday November 10, 2008, About: Cardinals: Holliday deal dead
Credit to you or not, you definately did your homework and brought it to the table in this thread. Bravo, Yank-ee. Regardless and back to topic, this was a doomed trade rumor from the start. No doubt that Holliday is a great ball player, Coors or No-Coors, and will get his payday after next season, but to give a talent like Ludwick would've been flat out stupid. Ludwick is not likely to make $13.5Mil for a while, at least not through arbitration. You have plenty of talent in that crowded outfield in St. Louis and if Ludwick is your key to improving your rotation or infield, then thats understandable, but address the needs of your ballclub first. Maybe if the Cubs end up with Peavy you could pry loose Yunel Escobar or Jo-Jo Reyes plus from the Braves in trade, I know they are dying for a steady OF. My thoughts are if Holliday is traded at all, I would imagine it is a trade deadline move next year to a contender who is willing to deal something to get him and capable of signing him at the end of the year.
Posted Sunday November 09, 2008, About: What Padres want for Peavy
BravesandCards, I dont think you pass on a Cy Young award winning pitcher if you can package Escobar with a couple viable options (ie Jo-Jo Reyes and Jordan Schafer). Re-signing Glavine out of nastalgia is not the right way to go unless you truely think he can produce at a high level. Regardless, as I have posted before, Hanson is not going anywhere, the Cubs will get Peavy before Hanson is moved. But I still think that the Braves are going to end up landing Peavy, they just have the better pieces. Its all leverage at this point for Towers to work the Braves and Cubs against each other.
Posted Sunday November 09, 2008, About: Cardinals leading chase for Holliday
good point, however, Cards not in the mix for Peavy and Furcal is probably going to resign with the Dodgers, being that he loves LA.

Posted Sunday November 09, 2008, About: Peavy to Braves, Cubs or Dodgers
Well, being that I am partial to number 4, JC, I will start with that one as your T&R posts are far more interesting at this point then the rehashed Peavy drama. As a Twins fan, but an objective baseball fan, I think the trade makes sense for both sides and this deal should get done this off season. Minnesota is in desperate need of a hitting 3rd baseman (even if the stats for Atkins drastically decline away from Coors), and with Holliday more than likely on the move they will have a spot open in the outfield to throw in Cuddyer. I think with Coors still being Coors, Cuddyer could be a decent RBI man and though not an even replacement for Holliday, certainly a more than capable outfielder. The contracts don't match that well, but Cuddy is still reasonably priced, especially being signed through 2010. Cuddy isnt as much of a fan favorite as some would like to believe, and with all the young talent in the Twins outfield it makes more sence to trade a guy like Cuddyer with a far less upside than Delmon Young, Gomez or Denard Span. Atkins would thrive in a place like Minnesota too. The short fences in the Homer Dome would more than likely boost his power numbers and the Pitching in the AL central is (I would say) worse than that of the NL West now that CC is gone. Unfortunately, I think that the deal isnt going to get done without some sort of prospect pitcher and and I am not sure whether or not that tips the scale too far to the Rockies. Depending on the demand for Atkins, the Twins may be better off signing a free agent like Casey Blake or Joe Crede as a stopgap. However, as I have stated earlier, I think that this deal gets done, based on mutual interest and the needs of both teams, it may just be the right package hasnt gotten put together. Billy Smith has already proven his is willing to deal (See: Delmon Young trade).
Posted Saturday November 08, 2008, About: Peavy to Braves or Cubs
Peavy is realistic, probable actually, but Burnett? I haven't even heard of any interest on their end for Burnett, or Burnetts for that matter. Also, swapping Kelly Johnson for Yunel Escobar in a trade for Peavy would be a mistake, the market for second basemen is so thin and they dont have any major league ready talent in the pipes as far as I know. SS is much easier to fill, besides the fact that SD is planning on getting Khalil Greene out of there so Escobar would be an easy transition. With the uncertainty of Smoltz and Hudson and Hamptons health issues, the Braves need to find themselves an front of the rotation guy like Peavy to count on every 5 days. If the Braves can pull of a trade without giving up Jo-Jo Reyes, then a rotation of Peavy, Hudson, Jurrjens, Reyes and Hampton looks pretty good (Barring any freak abdominal strains that is).

Count your blessings, Sunoco, you dont have Pohlad, the richest owner in all of sports refuse to bring his payroll BACK to $70 Mil and ask your fans to build you a stadium. You havent seen cheap yet.
