buyer beware. i'm talking to you king james.
but flip side there is that kg, being the kind of guy he is, never wanted to come out of the game. he was among league leaders in minutes year in and year out...often out there at tail end of blow outs. then, inevitably, you could see he was fatigued come playoff time. but flip never had the cajones to rest kg b/c kg wanted to play and flip lets the inmates run the asylum........we'll see how that works with a guy like agent zero. good luck wiz fans.
first of all, something like 25% of big leaguers are hispanic. so it's not like it's just the mets with a lot of hispanic players. (my understanding is that the mlb affiliated minor leagues are somewhere in the vicinity of 40% hispanic)
second of all, is it really that unreasonable for a franchise like the mets, based in a heavily hispanic community, to want to put a team on the field that reflects the fan base? that just seems like good business. i know that the chisox also prioritize adding hispanic players and coaches for the same reason.
bottom line is that it's the 21st century. we're a pluralistic society. if you aren't comfortable with brown skinned people on your favorite ballclub i would urge you to modernize and join the new millenium. our society is only going to become more diverse. the options are to embrace it or to become a dinosaur.
besides, if i was a mets fan i'd be far more concerned with the culture of losing and incompetence that has infected that franchise. and that starts with the wilpon family, who, last i checked, are anglo as all get out.
let me see if i have this straight. sheff was quoted as saying something that could be perceived as far fetched? has this happened before?
remember he's a guy who has hit consistently for years. not like he was a flash in the pan. heck, i just checked. in 09 he hit 310 with an obp of 370 or so. (granted not much power)
granted 18 mil is a lot for anyone, but i won't be overly shocked to see .300 30 and 100 from him next year.
if i'm damon, and the yankees (of all teams) are trying to nickel and dime me, i think i would tell them they can feel free to find someone else to bat and run the bases in the ninth inning of game four of the world series if they don't think i'm worth the money.
and, as a neutral observer, i'll be lmao when johnny has a series changing postseason AB at yankee stadium next fall.....in a road jersey.
bottom line is the guy gets hot once or twice a season and carries the club for two weeks, other than that he's kind of an out machine and rally killer.
