The Niners should trade Crabtree + whatever for him. Trade headaches.
Posted Monday August 24, 2009, About: Why Halladay is more likely to leave Jays
The Jays are not the Pirates of the AL. They are a victim of their own division, year in, year out. If they were in any other division in baseball they would be in the mix, if not winning it every year. Having to play against the 2 warring giants of baseball 38 times in a season would take it's toll on any team in MLB, not just the Jays, Rays and O's.

Just for the sake you were making the comparison, the Jays were 10 games over .500 in the toughest division in baseball, the Pirates were 28 games under .500. This year the Jays came into the season with essentially Roy and a bunch of inexperienced starters and still got off to a hot start. The injuries eventually caught up to them and they are now playing out the string.
Posted Monday July 20, 2009, About: Yzerman wanted Blackhawks GM job
All he has to do is wait for Bryan Murray to shoot himself in the foot again and he can be the GM in his hometown.
Posted Sunday July 19, 2009, About: Dodgers intrigued by Halladay
Roy is the real deal. Sure it's tough to compare pitchers of today to the pitchers of yesterday, but by rights Roy could have 2 or 3 Cy Youngs by now if not for bad luck injuries. The Cy was his for the taking the year he took a line drive off the shin which knocked him out for a good chunk of the season. He would have won it last year if not for an appendectomy where he missed about 4 starts early in the season. As much as I loved Stieb, Roy has pretty much bettered him in every way outside of pitching a no-hitter, which he almost did in his second career start, having it broken up with 2 outs in the 9th. The guy is a throwback to the old school pitchers. I was at the game against the Angels where he threw a complete game, 133 pitch, 14 strikeout performance. He ran into trouble in the 7th and coughed up 4 runs, then proceeded to strike out 5 of 6 batters in the 8th and 9th to close out the game.
Posted Friday May 22, 2009, About: Rubio dissing Memphis & OKC?
The only reason college players are over a barrel is because they had to declare for the draft. Once you declare, sign on with an agent there is no going back to the NCAA. Kobe was a high schooler when he called his shot. US players have no leverage when it comes to situations like this. Most of these guys come out of college with dollar signs in their eyes and the last thing they want to do is slog it out on another continent if they don't get what they want. Rubio is in a position to control his destiny given he already has a team paying him to play. I doubt very many Europeans dream of one day playing professional ball in Oklahoma or Memphis.

I know this is something new to NBA fans, but this has been happening in hockey for decades. Europeans don't want to uproot their lives and everything they have ever known to play in a place most Americans wouldn't even want to live.
Posted Thursday April 23, 2009, About: Indians anxious to trade Lee?
Ah hrrm, Blue Jays. Roy should have won the Cy Young last year. Lee just got it because he went from awful to having a career year. Roy is consistently great year in, year out.
Posted Wednesday March 25, 2009, About: Luongo unsure of Canucks' future
One can dream about how he would pan out in Ottawa. Hasek is the closest the Sens have ever been to having a stud goalie, and he was on the back end of his career and injured a good chunk of the season. If you get Bobby Lu for $6 mil on a team like Ottawa you could start planning the parade. That was always the issue Ottawa had with Toronto. Toronto had Joseph and Belfour, who were goalies who could steal games. As much as I liked Lalime, he just wasn't someone who could steal a series. Luongo has the ability to steal games. As I said, one can dream.

Posted Thursday February 12, 2009, About: Avery: I've turned over new leaf
What if he actually has turned a corner in his life? Maybe by taking some time out to sort himself out he might have actually changed. I guess we'll all see in a few weeks.
Posted Tuesday February 10, 2009, About: Boldin wants to be traded
Teams can't be invested at WR like Arizona is. Boldin leaving was a foregone conclusion once he got injured and Steve Breaston stepped into the picture. The Cardinals weren't such a winning situation this year, as they barely made the playoffs. They got hot at the right time and made it to the Super Bowl. You could make the case that if the Niners made a coaching change a couple games earlier Arizona wouldn't even have made the playoffs.

Having 2 #1 receivers just doesn't work. Arizona will get stronger if they make a decent deal for Boldin.
Posted Monday February 09, 2009, About: Why Rangers should acquire Avery
You Ranger fans are a lot less forgiving then us Sens fans. Sure we got tired of Redden's loafing, but we didn't want him shot. Then again we don't have him locked up for another 5 seasons(if my memory serves right), so I can kinda understand.
Posted Tuesday February 03, 2009, About: Pens to trade Malkin or Staal?
Trading Malkin is inevitable. As you've seen with Tampa and Ottawa in the last few years, in the salary cap era you simply can't win if you lock up all your money in 3 guys then use filler for the rest of the roster. Pittsburgh is already on that slippery slope right now, just like Ottawa. They have Crosby, Malkin, Fleury and Staal who are all young and need to get paid, so something has to give.

Eddie, buy the 49ers back if you've got money to burn. We'd love to have you back at the helm.
Posted Tuesday January 20, 2009, About: Sens deny Spezza trade talk
He hasn't been playing with Heatley and Alfredsson as much lately and still has been getting points at over a point a game clip. While I do agree that he can be one dimensional as a player, offensive talent like his doesn't just grow on trees. Trading him away at this point in a lost season doesn't make much sense. Get rid of some of the deadwood on the roster like Fisher, Vermette, Ruutu and whatever else and load up on draft picks. I would rather see them shoot the moon to trade up in the draft to get some NHL ready talent then trade Spezza. I highly doubt Ottawa would get the return they would require. Not everyone is stupid like Tampa and how they got fleeced for Richards last year.
Posted Sunday January 18, 2009, About: Manny stuck with Dodgers offer
Manny probably be best served signing huge 1 year contracts at this point. He'd perpetually be in his contract year and having to prove he's money in the bank all the time. He'd get his money and teams would get premium production from him.
Posted Saturday January 17, 2009, About: Senators close to big moves?
Greerman, you are dreaming if you think Columbus would give up Mason in a Spezza deal. LeClaire is older and doesn't have nearly the career ceiling Mason does. While I think LeClaire is an upgrade in net for Ottawa, giving up on Spezza at this point seems pretty short sighted. Ottawa has a load of talent that could be NHL ready next year. I would much rather see them clear out some of the deadwood on the roster and build a contender for next year. If they can draft an NHL ready defenceman with a top 5 pick I think they would be much better off then trying to make the playoffs this year.
Posted Tuesday November 25, 2008, About: Yzerman as new Senators GM?
Even though Stevie Y has been with the Wings forever, in reality he's never seen if the grass is in fact greener on the other side of the fence. I used to live in Ottawa and people have talked about Yzerman coming back to Ottawa since they got their expansion team.
Posted Sunday November 16, 2008, About: Cassel in Vikings' future?
I'm not going to bash Cassel one way or the other, but I thought I would point out the fact NE had pretty much the most cream puff schedule of anyone in the league. They play rivalry games against Indy and Pittsburgh, then the rest of the schedule are wild card scrappers at best(and even Indy and Pittsburgh fall into that category this season). If NE had been lined up to play the South this season they would probably be 5-5 and fighting for their playoff lives. Cassel will get paid and will be a flop somewhere.
Posted Tuesday November 11, 2008, About: Messier: Face guards should be mandatory
I don't agree with faceshields, but visors should be mandatory. All they need to do is grandfather it in. Considering Crosby, Heatley, Ovechkin, Spezza, Kovalchuk and many more already wear them, it's an easy switch. They already have to wear them in junior. In 10-15 years everyone would be wearing visors, just like they did with helmets. Its just common sense.
Posted Monday November 03, 2008, About: USC's Carroll finds humor in BCS
How many times in the last 5 years has USC been the beneficiary of BCS math? I think Pete should shut up, mainly because it always seems that USC always ends up getting the long end of the stick when it comes to the BCS.
Posted Wednesday October 08, 2008, About: Emery could return to NHL
Cam Ward did the same thing, he just didn't have the attitude problem. Emery is all potential without the follow through to realize that potential.
