Angels aren't a huge disappointment IMO. I'm a fan and I predicted them as a wildcard team, not so far off of where they are.
Really, signing Pujols made everyone more optimistic and ignore the team's issues. For example, Ervin Santana has been horse **** for years. Haren was a disappointment, but shaky last season too. Injuries slowed him down this year, which was a surprise. Wilson started strong but faded fast in the second half. They never had a 5th starter, but everyone over looked that and overestimated Santana because of Wilson.
The offense coming into the year was a mess. Trout was no where to be seen as he was in the minors. So, the expectations for this team were WAY too high all things considered at the beginning of the year.
Their biggest down fall was the bullpen. They had a brutal pen all year and it really cost them.
The bats came alive at the end of the year, and they have a good core for next year, with an improved bullpen, Greinke back and bounce back years from Wilson and Haren, this team could be really good. But they need to be good now, before Pujols starts to decline.
While he does have great stuff, he isn't rated that high. He was the number 51 prospect coming prospect coming into the year. That's the highest I could find.
Garrett Richards? Was there some age standard that Im missing here? I mean he's a good prospect and all, but he's had some brutal starts for the Angels...
So...The logic here is even though Weaver missed five starts and still has three more wins, Verlander has more K's and a **** defense so he should win? Yeah it really sucks to be Verlander, I'd hate to have Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera in my lineup.
The Kings aren't an underdog at all. They should have been there the whole time. They have two extremely talented lines of scoring forwards, depth in their bottom 6 (Stoll, Richardson, Nolan, etc.), and a fantastic goaltender. This is no cinderella team.
A couple thoughts on left's arguments:
1) "nor a number one centre for 3/4 of the season"
What are Kopitar and Richards then? Both of those guys are number one centers. They didn't both miss 3/4 of the season.
