I like an industry where it can be open knowledge that you are looking elsewhere, but if the opportunity doesn't please you, you are content to stay with your current employer. Makes your current employer look like a beggar, no?
Posted Thursday January 08, 2009, About: Jones' comments irk Favre
Glad to see that Brett's "only let myself down" comments were brought up already, that shows either a tremendous disconnect, or a tremendous ego. Actually, thinking about it, it might just mean that Favre never gave a crap about the NYJ and still doesn't, it was all just a path to THIS year, where he's now a free agent and can go anywhere... hmm..

As for Thomas Jones, he's just doing his level best to try and be relevant in January,. Tough work for a Jet, really.

/yeah, that was mean. So?
Posted Wednesday December 10, 2008, About: Porter defends athletes carrying guns
Curious how you tried to make this racial.

Plax was wrong. He illegally carried an unsecure firearm into a public place. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. Moron.

He's right in one aspect. He is free and it is a dangerous world out there. I have family in Brazil where economic turmoil is a lot greatly than here (although that gap is closing RAPIDLY). It is not a safe place there for rich people, and as we continue through this Depression we're in (read; NOT a Recession, but a Depression), there will be more and more poverty and desperation all around these isolated pockets of filthy, filthy rich people.

So yeah, fill out the damn papers, GET LICENSES and OBEY THE LAW, you self-entitled moron. Or be smart, use some of your riches to hire a professional. Like you care what we regular folk think of you anyway...

Just here to giggle at the over-zealous Yankee fans, which were hysterical on page 1 back there.

"You have no chance unless you go sign Tex. Even with Tex.... you have no chance."

You do realize that CC might turn out to be injury-prone, right? Or that playing the Bosox 47 times a year might not be to his liking. A man who had to be begged and bribed to come to NYC doesn't sound like he has the mental toughness to be the Ace of the back-page Yankees. What happens when Hank calls him fat?

Yes, mental toughness is vital here in NY. Just ask Jeter, he knows.
Posted Wednesday December 10, 2008, About: Cowher in line to coach Redskins?
Me Dum Dum, I think you are making the other guy's point for him. Yes, the Cowboys apparently have a wealth of depth in the "skill" positions, but apparently this wealth is good for precisely one win more. So your argument becomes more specious. They simply cannot be THAT much more talented when their record clearly says otherwise.

THe Cowboys have been the pre-season favorite for each of the last three years, but have zero playoff wins in that stretch (Yeah, I'm counting this season too, but I don't see a win here either, unless they limp in and get the Cardinals). Which means that the paper records and statistics.. they are not only meaningless, they are misleading. The Cowboys are perhaps a smidgen better than the Skins, moreso now that the Skins have collapsed, Zorn is fighting with Portis, and their O-Line lost their stellar left tackle along with two other starters.
Posted Monday December 08, 2008, About: Varitek to reject Red Sox arbitration
Old catchers age very, very badly. I can only hope for him that the Bosox have already negotiated a settlement that required him to bow out of arbitration as a necessary step. This would be a sad way for the Sox to part with their captain.

And honestly, powerhouse offensive catchers are pretty damn rare. He'd be worth it at a reduced rate for two years with the Sox, I think. 15m over 2 years is decent, and perhaps he can have a nice sunset summer playing for his beloved team.
Posted Monday December 08, 2008, About: Fox apologizes for on-air nudity
Vishanti will get broiled in the locker room for this, but I thought it was pretty funny.

The Vikings beat the powerhouse Lions, and there is their star TE, going long for a score with a towel.

I fully expect to get myself all up in arms about this if there are no fines levied. If you are going to flip out on Janet (Ms Jackson if you're nasty) then this requires the same moral outrage.

Posted Monday December 08, 2008, About: Eagles go right at distracted Pierce
First off, good gutsy game by the Iggles, so Phillaphiles, keep your heads up and be proud of your team today, they showed no quit.

I'm a mite frustrated with a Giant team that took the day off mentally, this much is true. The vaunted D-line got manhandled and did not adapt, and the running game just mailed it in.

The true problem will be the passing game though, and this little gem of a game proves it. Without Plax to roll the safety 90% of the time, the only-above-average Giant receiving corp is going to be hard-pressed to make big receptions. Annnnnnd when they do, Hixon goes and drops a PREFECT throw. And that drop was the game, true believers. He takes that in for 6 points, and Big Blue swings from down 10-0 with a FG looming to end the half, to leading 14-10 to start the 3rd after a good defensive stop. The game changes right there if he doesn't develop stone hands.

I am not worried, Big Blue WILL be in the title game (and likely host it) but I have to wonder... Plax wouldn't have dropped that, would he? Damn him.

I'm a Giant fan who has never defended him, and honestly, I'm looking for people defending him. I don't see any and I've prowled more than a few of these Plax threads now.

Which isn't hard considering there are about 8 new ones a day. *sigh*

Just jail him, willya?

Posted Friday December 05, 2008, About: Emmitt: Current Cowboys just 'mediocre'
The problem with the Cowboys is a perceived lack of toughness. As a Giant fan, let me freely admit that they are an ornery, angry bunch of proud and talented playmakers. TO is about as negative karma a person can be (for a pro team) but hell, the guy has frightening physical skills. Romo is not a battle-tested Starbach, but he has great physical skills and a nice hefty slice of those intangibles that great quarterbacks need. Call it will or belief, or what-have-you.

They have not gotten into a slugfest with a peer-superior team and won out yet, and THAT is the difference, and teh thrust of Emmitt's rant, I think.

You need to beat the heck out of the Steelers and my own beloved G-men if you can, and THEN you can ramp up for a long playoff haul. Get beat by either (or worse, both) and this sort of disbelief and naysaying is going to continue to follow you for awhile yet. The Giants have people's respect because they beat three teams better than them last year (including Big D). THIS is what the 'Boys need.
Posted Friday December 05, 2008, About: Buffalo fans cool to Toronto 'home' game
I think there is a wealth of untapped sports fans in Canada (just see the success of the the CFL, which people above has spoken to). A franchise up there would do well, I think all of Canada might rally together to root it on, as it played rivals in the US. I think Buffalo is a very small market, which is going to get completely engulfed in the ongoing economic downturn (read: Depression). A big market like Chicago can withstand a recession, Buffalo cannot withstand nearly so much. I think moving the Bills farther North would be a huge mistake. I would rather see a new franchise break ground in Canada, and then a year or so later have Buffalo and another flailing team looked at for contraction/relocation.

Actually, relocation, the NFL is too hugely successful for a team to vanish, it should just move.
Posted Wednesday December 03, 2008, About: Giants can get out of Burress contract
You know, I could totally see Dallas welcoming him in two years, as TO will probably have moved on by then, with his attitude and history.

JJ is a huge "Second Chance" guy, if you didn't notice, and they will need to bookend their new WR by then.

Once he gets through his prison and suspension time that is...
Posted Wednesday December 03, 2008, About: Mets to woo closers in Vegas
I'll give the Phil-fans their moment in the sun, your team did the deed and put up when others shut up, so feel free to rant and flame away. But I will say... you should focus on your own team, not crap down on the heads of your rivals. The Mets are going to be gunning for your guys all season long, don't give us FURTHER incentive to hate on you...

NEWSFLASH: The Mets are going to seek bullpen help!!!! Umm, yeah, we had the worst bullpen in the league and it was the primary reason we missed the postseason. A moron would know to target relievers this offseason.

As to what the team will get... be wary, we landed Santana with what must have been the third best offer out there. Minaya must have compromising photos of many executives, he might strike gold yet again, once the CC sweepstakes are over...
Posted Wednesday December 03, 2008, About: Vikings owner backs coach
I know I have a little NYC bias, but normally the "kiss of Support" from ownership quickly translates to the "Kiss of Death" that the Mafia traditionally places on the lips of the soon-to-die.

Or is this Zygi guy completely unlike a Steinbrenner in that regard? Considering the coaches they have had, and their turnover rate... I don't see this guy being a Mara or a Rooney
Posted Wednesday December 03, 2008, About: Colvin may rejoin Patriots
You know, I respect the Patriots tremendously (read: I am not a fan of any team in the AFC East), but you have to call a spade a spade.... he looks like he is getting through a bad bout of constipation in that photo.

And who knew Colvin was a street free agent right now, he used to be the goods. He'd be a natural to patch up an injury-ravaged D for them, he played Bellichick D for years now and is a selfless, team guy.
Posted Wednesday December 03, 2008, About: Lawyer: Suspended Vikings to sue NFL
I don't know, call me stupid, but if I am making a killing, multiple-millions of dollars per year to provide a service, and then my boss tells me that there are certain rules that I MUST follow in order to maintain that earning level, and then provides me with a tremendous support system, whose sole purpose is to help me follow those rules, I'm thinking I could do it, pretty easily.

One big run-on sentence to really just say that they knew what they should have avoided and had professionals working full-time (paid for by their teams) to help them.

Morons. Let them rot on suspension and think about how dumb they are.
Posted Wednesday December 03, 2008, About: Carson: Giants should bring Plaxico back
Carson, though I love him, is dead wrong and sounding like a failure of an apologist. These actions, just by their sheer obstinacy and selfishness, show him to care not a whit for the team or its goals. Football is the first and only truly team sport. You cannot achieve a freaking thing without the collaboration and single-mindedness of your entire team. It is clearly the Giants + Plax, not one unit. He will not sublimate his ego for the greater good.

If nothing else, he needs to be drummed from the team to protect the concept of teamwork and unification. I don't say that he should be drummed from the sport, because sadly, even killers get to come back to this game because of their unique skills and abilities. He can play, he WILL play, but never for the Giants again. Please.
Posted Tuesday December 02, 2008, About: Plaxico's trouble could benefit this Giant
They can definitely franchise Jacobs, but will attempt to fair deal him into something longterm. Webster too, and if both fail, I think Webster is the one you franchise-tag. If the last two years have taught us anything, it is that new running backs and receivers are easy to come by. Its the O-Line that is the priority.

And Toomer returning to Big Blue has been sealed now, there is no way Plaxico can, I don't think. If nothing else, the NFL is going to punt on punishing him until next season, so the Giants will probably PUP him or NFI him for the rest of this season to recoup immediately, and then go about severing the contract and cutting him loose no matter what. Toomer stands to get 1-2 years at good money to be the old man of the group. We'll need to waste 2 picks in the first 4 rounds to supplement the receiver corp and look for a big, strong body in the mold of Andre Johnson or... you know... Burress.

Fortunately, the core of the team is locked up in contract and the Giants have multiple picks this year from trades (thank you, Shockey) and an excellent scouting/picking system in place, headed up by Jerry himself. A pity the team couldn't deal Plax for picks too, ah well...

October 5th, 2009, Adam "Pacman" Jones will be suspended for some more dumbass stuff. Mark it down, it can't be longer than that.
Posted Monday December 01, 2008, About: Teammate helped Plaxico hide gun
"The Giants' dream season was thrown into turmoil Saturday"

Wrong. If this were Eli or Jacobs or Tuck, THEN this would be correct. However, this is Mister I-work-out-in-Miami-with-Shockey. Mister I-already-missed-three-games-for-various-reasons.

I'm really only angry at Pierce, he should have gotten WAY the hell away from Burress, he's just a bad seed, and stupid. Pierce is way too much of a gamer and cunning to be caught up near the black hole that this moron is.

Hopefully, his lawyers will get him off with just a mea culpa that is bland enough to escape the wrath of the Commish. Barring that, I think Burress should fall on the grenade and take the bullet for Pierce on his own. He's apparently used to taking bullets anyway.

"He reached for the weapon, but fumbled it and it went off, sources said."

I giggled. Freaking guy even fumbles his gun, what a moron.
Posted Wednesday November 26, 2008, About: Mets reach out to K-Rod, Fuentes
He's right, at least how saves are measured. The art of closing a close game is still an art, and one that is amazingly important (see M Rivera), but closers as the hyper-specialized, coddled, over-inflated thigns that they are now, are not really as useful as you might think.

And yeah, saying "The Mets seem willing to consider Kerry Wood, as well, but have concerns about his past health issues" is like saying you are thinking about becoming a football fan and rooting for Detroit, you are just worried about all the losing they do in the last 20 years.
