I'm with you on that one. AND Boras is looking for a 5 year deal? Give me a break. Sox aren't going to sign a 35 year old pitcher for 5 years @ 15/mil a year.

$6 mil sounds like more than enough for someone who hasn't shown he can pitch in the MLB yet. Matsuzaka at least faced plenty of MLB caliber players in the WBC before he signed.

I understand .... It's like a respect thing? :) ..... Never liked Joba, but he was lights out in the bullpen. Last Yankees player I probably ACTUALLY liked ..... Don Mattingly (well except Rivera of course).

willie .... I agree with you. I actually believe that Papi would go for less money when his contract comes up and his production has dropped off. Be interesting to see how he does next year.

As for the players past their primes ..... I point only at Nomar Garciaparra ...... what happened to him? :)

Then according to you Ellsbury will soon be leaving too ..... They don't want CC because he's too expensive and they have Beckett. They are only going after Lowe and Burnett because they are 'supposed to be' cheaper alternatives.

Slinky ... I think your right on the money. Would the Sox have won in '07 if they kept them? Not a chance. That's the change in baseball now. People say that the Sox have no allegiance to their players and won't sign them so they don't stay with the team, but so far the new management has been able to see that the money they weren't asking for wasn't worth it ... why sign a player who isn't going to produce. Great business decision and that frankly is all that counts anymore because baseball isn't about 'honor' or 'allegiance' its about dollars and cents.

Word on the street is that Lowe is looking for 16mil/year. Not sure how he figures he is going to get that amount. Burnett wants 5 years ...... but can't put together a solid season. Sox and Yankees aren't dumb ... yankees learned their mistake with Pavano (I would like to think) and the Sox don't just jump into that (see Pedro Martinez).

AllStarz .... That's the way I've felt about the Yankees for awhile. Same thing the Sox used to be ... a bunch of individuals, but not necessarily a team. It will be interesting to see if some cohesion can come to the Yankees this year.

A friend of mine and I were discussing this just a few days ago. Laviolette is not a bad coach, but the Hurricanes have been looking like a shell of their past selves. Not saying he is bad, but maybe a change of pace in the coaching department is just what the organization is needed.
