So where did I say it had a bearing on his rank as "best ever". Whats your top 10 all time heart list look like for nba history (I mean if MJ had more then anyone you obviously must have ranked every players heart in history), is it a funny that when athletes are described as having such great heart it usually coincides with them having won championships. what did he not have this heart or will before he got a great team around him. Someone wins so they wanted it more, had more heart,...or any other clique... Couldn't possibly have to do with just playing better that day / having good teammates / or that fact that in a game someone has to win. Barry Sanders walks away from football and people say he doesn't have heart, MJ walks away from basketball but of course don't question him.

It's not that I don't think he's top 5 all time, nor that I have a problem with anyone calling him the GOAT. But the way he is glorified is unlike anything else I can think of. He can be your #1 all time player, but people act like its sacrilegious to mention anyone else in the same breath or challenge the thought that just maybe one of the thousands upon thousands of other players to play the game were as good or better. He doesn't have the most rings, he doesn't have the best stats, he played with one of the best supporting casts ever... So why must we act like its insane to compare him to someone else. He's certainly great but not near as great as he is in people's minds which makes the legend of 23 overrated. He played in a big market in the perfect time for the media to help expand his legend. Who else gets near the attention of him in any other sport; that his 50th b-day is a week long TV celebration is a joke.
