Before he goes to the front office, he should check out what happened to Mike Holmgren when he tried to do the same thing. Couldn't do it in Seattle, where they took away those duties from him and made him a full time coach. Couldn't do it in Cleveland, where they ended up firing him.

Same sort of rumor started last year with the Mariners and Prince Fielder. For 2 - 3 weeks Mariner fans imagine that they can contend if the team signs the slugger. Then reality sets in - The rumor is just a rumor. The team isn't realistically pursuing the free agent, who ends up signing elsewhere. And the Mariners continue to occupy the bottom of the AL West.
