"Find one shortstop in the modern era who produced at 39."
No problem. Omar Vizquel, age 39, 2006. Hit .295, 4 HR, 58 RBI, 24-for-31 on SBs, 22 2B, 10 3B, while winning a Gold Glove (one he actually deserved, unlike all of Jeter's).

"So owner Jim Irsay, general manager Ryan Grigson and coach Chuck Pagano won't have a firsthand look at how Manning is performing before March 8, the deadline for the team to decide whether or not to pay him a $28 million roster bonus."

Why does everyone seem to talk about the Winter Classic as though it were the Stanley Cup Finals? It's cool, of course, but it's a regular season game in January.
I don't disagree with the notion that Jeter made significant contributions to the game and the team. No one who is genuinely honest can say that. The point is that he was compensated HANDSOMELY for those contributions at the time that he made them. He is going to be paid this season for what he does THIS SEASON, not what he did in the past. If the Yankees think it's worth $15 million to keep a shortstop that has no range and hit .270 last year, they're crazy. If Derek Jeter thinks he is worth more than that, as he apparently does, then he is beyond help.
He was compensated handsomely in the past for his past contributions. His 2011 paycheck will be for his 2011 contributions, just like EVERYBODY ELSE. Shut yer yap, crybaby.
Jeter is a hall of famer thanks to the lineups that have surrounded him throughout his career. He's never played on a team that wasn't an offensive juggernaut. If he had played his entire career in Kansas City, he's probably hoping to get 2000 hits rather than 3000, and he's probably looking at a contract somewhere in the neighborhood of $3-4 million per year.
Jeter is the most overrated player I've ever seen in my entire life, and he's a hall of famer. That's simply amazing.
1. Beginning an argument with "I've been a (insert team name) fan for (insert number) years and..." renders whatever you're about to say null and void.
2. Joe doesn't care what you think. Why bother addressing him? If you want to BS with us about what Joe should or shouldn't do, proceed. But I promise you, Joe doesn't care what you think.
3. The haters, of which I am one, don't hate you because of your success. I don't hate the Lakers, Celtics, Red Wings, Canadiens, Cowboys, or 49ers. I do hate the Steelers but only because they're a rival of my team, not because of their success. The haters hate the Yankees, their fans, and specifically guys like you because of your obnoxiousness. As a group, Yankee fans are a bunch of jerks. With comments like "It's a NY thing baby so chew on it," you're showing you're in that class, for lack of a better term, of individual.

Suuuuuuuuuuure they won't.

I think Sid will sleep soundly despite these rankings. The Stanley Cup ring on his nightstand is comforting.
