Lets see here Ohio to start it off, followed by a Cincinnati team which I hate I gotta say. Both in the top 10.
Tubby couldn't lead his team. He walked away because he just couldn't handle the job anymore. When you are the number one seed in the whole tournament and lose to UAB in the second round you got problems. He had talent there and in the end he just couldn't recruit any more. He had some nice classes but let local talent go elsewhere and tried to get to many project players.
Both Smith and Kentucky are better off. Smith's expectations aren't high at Minnesota, too bad for the Gophers though that Tubs doesn't have another son. You don't understand how painful it can be to watch the coachs son play as if he ate a BIG bowl of suck for breakfest.
True dedication right there...
Do you see a trend there? Classy players don't matter as long as they are good. You act like it was only Kentucky going after the kid.
But think of this starting line up and the top 5 reserves.
PG- John Wall
SG- Jodie Meeks
SF- Darius Miller
PF- Patrick Patterson
C- DeMarcus Cousins
PG- Eric Bledsoe
SG- DeAndre Liggins/Jon Hood.
SF- Darnell Dodson
PF- Perry Stevenson
C- Daniel Orton
Both of those starting 5's could make the NCAA tournament. You combine them as a whole team that is just crazy.
They are a young team and Billy G is just starting to recruit kids fresh. Meaning its hard to impress a kid when another school and coach has been on him since his freshmen year or whatever.
Tubby wasn't all that great. He win the NC with Pitino's recruits not his own. If Smith was here the situation wouldn't be any different. He had really only ONE good recruiting class in his time here but for the most part they went pro after one season.
Kentucky isn't all that bad. They played hard throughout the season. Remember the 2 point loss to Louisville on the 3 that Edgar Sosa pulled out of his ass? Among other games.
You can't really judge a coach off of 2 years when he has no seniors and only 2 juniors.
