Oh, and for CenLA, too!! He's got my appreciation for his service and his team has stayed on track so far!

Losses by Stanford and Boise State definitely helped my Sooners! Set 'em up for the Ducks and Horned Frogs, barkeep!!

I don't see the wins by TCU or Oregon to be "upsets" - they were expected to be close games from the start of the season, and the fact that the two highly-ranked teams both lost doesn't make them huge "upsets". The same applies to the possibility of an "upset" if OkU beats OkSU in the Bedlam game (assuming both teams win out to get to that point). If they do win out, it will be another huge in-season matchup - there have been several this year ... gotta love CFB!!

All of this is just posturing and bluster. The teams play their games, one team wins and the other loses. At the end of the season, without a playoff, one team hoists the crystal football, and some are whining about it for months afterward.

I think Bob Stoops is a great coach with a tremendous record in his time at OU. He's been great with the players, has high ethical standards, recruits well, and has one NC. He's lost some big games at the end of the season, for sure, but he's not the only coach to go through a bowl game losing streak. IF OU makes it to the BCS NCG, they will have a chance to win despite justifiably not being favored over the SEC champs (assuming that would be the opponent). If they lose, we'll hear more smack about Stoops losing the big ones and being a mediocre coach ... if they win, it *might* shut up some of his detractors. I don't believe a coach's stature should depend ONLY on winning bowl games - yes, it's a factor but not the only one. If Myer had stuck around longer, he might have gone into a bowl game tailspin. We'll see about Saban and Miles. There's a lot of CFB yet to be played ...

BTW ... that's the meteorology program at MSU where my friend is at, and OU has a pretty decent meteorology program as well.

IF OU winds up undefeated an in the BCS NCG, I agree that the 'Bama-LSU winner would be the odds-on favorite. But they still have to play the game, and in CFB, sometimes the favorite doesn't win!!

I have a friend on the faculty at MSU ... former student of mine. I'll be visiting Starkville next spring, actually. Some fine southern cookin' there. Not quite up to LA standards, but still pretty darned good eats.

BP! Thanks for the drive-by ... I'd expect nothing less ... Cheers!!

Definitely a dominating win by the Tide against UF, but LSU also dominated UK. The SEC looks like the best in the land again and I suspect the LSU-Bama game on Guy **** Day in November could be the proverbial clash of titans! Fortunately, I'll be home for that one!!

Couldn't watch the game, but I expected better from the corn-holers. Welcome to the Big-10, Little Red!

board shake-up BUMP ...

Thanks, GR. I'll drink a round to the fans on the board. In ATL, sipping a cabernet waiting for the connection to Barcelona, and then on to Palma. I'll have to check the CFB scores on the web ...

Agree re the label ... and that's a big IF, but that is indeed one scenario that's plausible. I wouldn't be very optimistic re the outcome of such a game against LSU ... in New Orleans! A distinct home field advantage there ...

To quote Jon Stewart ... that's strangely arousing ... <):-) Cheers, B-I-G!!

Bad part about the Mallorca trip ... I'll miss 3 weeks of CFB ... but I think there are some compensations ...

Leaving for 3 weeks in Palma on Friday around noon! Tough job, but somebody has to do it!!

GR - good point about the water. I'd love to do a bourbon distillery tour, although I prefer single-malt Scotch for sipping, all other things being equal. Distillery tours are fun wherever one does them! I've visited a few in Scotland and even one in Bavaria (Yes, they now do single-malt whisky in Bavaria! Check out "Slyrs") Have a glass of your favorite bourbon, on me!

I got a similar email a few days ago, announcing that an innocuous comment of mine had been removed. The mods going bananas?
Posted Wednesday September 28, 2011, About: Nebraska vs. Wisconsin (Battle for "BIG RED")
Wisconsin has home field advantage, but it's not like Nebraska has never endured a hostile crowd and come away with a win. Both teams have some defensive issues and it might come down to who scores last. My hopes are for a Badger win, but I agree with WDT (#3 above). It could go right down the last play.
