In theory I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, they don't have replacements for either (other than your garden variety replacement players). For that reason alone, A-Rod and Tex will get another chance.

Wells - $24.6 mil (yes, I recognize Anaheim is paying part of the freight)
Tex - $23.125 mil
CC - $23 mil
Granderson - $15 mil
Kuroda - $15 mil
Jeter & Cano are the only two "home grown" players on this list

Good. The Yanks don't need to give a 31 year old, lazy PED user a 6-8 year contract. They have enough bad contracts as it is.

Conceptually, your idea appeals to me. However, if I was a free agent, I know that structure would make me less inclined to sign with Pittsburgh or KC.

But I guess you could flip that around by saying if you build a decent team, the free agents will follow.
