In theory I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, they don't have replacements for either (other than your garden variety replacement players). For that reason alone, A-Rod and Tex will get another chance.

Conceptually, your idea appeals to me. However, if I was a free agent, I know that structure would make me less inclined to sign with Pittsburgh or KC.
But I guess you could flip that around by saying if you build a decent team, the free agents will follow.
