Fassel would be ok and a clear improvement. He made it to a Super Bowl with Kerry Collins. I support him much more for HC than some untested coordinator from Green Bay, Minnesota, or Miami. But why is everyone ignoring Brian Billick? This guy won a Super Bowl convincingly with Trent Dilfer as QB. He also made it to the playoffs several times with crushing defenses. And a lot of Baltimore's recent success can be attributed to the pieces he put in motion.

Or how about; Shanahan, Cowher, Billick, Fassel, Vermeil, or Schottenheimer for head coach with Martz as OC and Crennel as DC?

That would mean so long to Haslett and Venturi and almost cetainly to players like Orlando Pace, Richie Incognito, Alex Barron, Dante Hall. Drew Bennett, Joe Klopfenstein, James Hall, Leonard Little, Tye Hill, Cory Chavous, Dane Looker, Trent Greene, and others... Thanks for all the good years Pace and Little!

pike; granted the current Rams offense could stink up any defense. Nearly every time there was a chance to win with a late score, Bulger through an INT. Any time there was a chance to win by holding the ball and running out the clock, they promptly went 3 and out. But in weeks 15 & 16 against the Seahawks and 49ers, the Rams led big-time in time of possession stats and the D still caved in the 4th quarter. Also, how many times this year did the Rams D allow opponents to score on their very first offensive possession?? The D has got to get some steady pressure on opposing QB's and choke off the all too frequent 30-40 yard romps by opposing running backs. A single extra sack in each game might've won against the Pats, Dolphins, Hawks & 49ers. That would've made for a semi-respectable 6-10 season. But, in hindsight, I guess it's better to get the high draft picks, a new Coach and new front office personnel as a result of going 2-14.

Why not? We're not going to get Cowher, Fassel, Billick, Schottenheimer, Vermeil or any other decent experienced coach? Wanna go with another newbie like Scott Linehan? Here's an idea: bring back Martz as HC and get Romeo Crennel for defensive coordinator. While Crennel was a flop as a HC, he proved himself on defense in NE. The Bellichick's ain't been the same without him. The Rams still have latent offensive talent sans the O-Line. And, they have a great kicker and punter. But their defense stinks virtually everywhere. No rush, no tackling, blown coverages, etc. Get Martz, draft some OL and a center, let Crennel try to fix the defense in 2009. Maybe go 7-9 or 8-8. Then in 2010 draft all defense and maybe get to 9-7 or 10-6. It would sure beat 3-13 and 2-14.

Haslet is dead meat and should be. Martz's fatal mistake at STL was giving Kurt Warner the shaft. Marc Bulger is an "adequate" QB, not a superstar and never will be one. However, Martz & Bulger could probably make things happen with Avery, Burton and Holt still around and Monster-Beast Steven Jackson in the backfield. The 2009 draft better focus on Offensive Linemen. It's time to let Pace, Incognito, Barron, Bennett, Hall, Klopfenstein, Greene and defensive old timers like Little, Hall and Chavous hit the road. Tye Hill is a never-was. After 2 seasons, I've not seen much productivity out of Adam Carriker. And while Chris Long started off pretty good, he was invisible in the last few games. A couple extra sacks and the Rams might've won their last 3 games in a row. Bad team. Martz and a few decent draft choices couldn't hurt.
