Posted Thursday February 19, 2009, About: Leach wants to attend Tech meeting
I don't think Leach is too worried. If TT fires him, they still have to pay him for the next two years. Actually, it will probably only be one year because next year Leach will no doubt be one of the hottest commodities on the market. You can bet there are AD's around the country watching this fiasco. If Leach gets fired, they will start laying the groundwork to fire their coaches at the end of next season so they can get in on the Leach sweepstakes. FYI, I'm not a TT or UT fan.

I'm a Cubs fan and I hope Bud gets fired. Then he could go back to screwing up the Brewers full time.
Posted Tuesday February 10, 2009, About: MLB & union tensions growing
Why do you think they're making millions per year? They sure weren't before they formed the union. I'm no fan of Fehr and agree it's time he moved on and let someone fresh take over. The reason they ended up with the recors was because they didn't trust MLB with them. It's ironic they ended up having the records subpoenaed before they were able to destroy them. If MLB had them, I can see them destroying the records in spite of the subpoena, just to show they weren't going to be bullied by the feds. Plus they have, or at least had, enough friends in high places to probably have gotten away with it.
Posted Friday February 06, 2009, About: Physical kills Rangers-Sheets deal
If he didn't have an MRI at the end of last season, he's a fool. He could have had the surgery in October, and would have a chance to play the last half of 2009. If he had an MRI and knew he had a torn tendon and was trying to trick a team into a contract, he's dishonest. Either way, he doesn't sound like someone I'd like anchoring my rotation, even when he's healthy.

I'm sure Roger was just buying it for his wife.
Posted Wednesday January 07, 2009, About: Cubs to restart Peavy talks
Unless he loses his control like he did for a stretch last year, Marmol will be the closer. Greg will be the set-up man. I say go for Peavy based on the old adage you can never have too much pitching. They have 4 solid starters but if one of them goes down, there's a big drop off. I agree with previous posts though. Since a deal to sell the Padres looks imminent, Peavy may stay in SD, at least until June when they fall out of the race.
Posted Tuesday January 06, 2009, About: Mack Brown: BCS still needs work
If Texas had been ranked ahead of OK after the regular season and ended up in the BCS Championship Game, do you think Mack would have had any sympathy for Oklahoma? I doubt it!!!
Posted Wednesday December 31, 2008, About: Sources: Cubs, Rockies agree to trade
I agree with Chitownblues - Vizcaino means nothing. The goal was to get rid of Marquis and salary and they accomplished both. Good thing Harry isn't still with us - he never could pronounce Vizcaino (I think that's why they traded Jose back in the early or mid 90's).
Posted Wednesday December 17, 2008, About: Cubs looking to shop Pie
I think Pie still has potential, but when you're positioning yourself for today (which the Cubs most assuredly are), not for tomorrow, you go with the proven quantity. Even though Gathright isn't a world beater, at least you know what you're going to get from him. Besides, the role Gathright will fill, basically a bench player, is not a good spot for someone as young as Pie. it's not fair to him and it's not beneficial to the club. Hopefully they can package Pie with a couple other players and get either a left-handed hitting outfielder (doubtful) or a passable starting pitcher. They'll need to unload Marquis to open up a starting role, but that's just another reason to do it.
Posted Monday December 15, 2008, About: Ten teams in deep financial trouble
I'll go against the grain, since I am a Columbus homer. The Jackets drew well in the first few years until they realized McClean had no clue on how to build a winning team (to be fair, he did a great job getting the team up and running). Give Howsen a couple years and he'll build a good team and the fans will come back. If the Jackes get to the playoffs and the fans still don't come back, then I would agree with contracting them. If they aren't in the playoffs either this season or next, then I think it'll be too late and the fans will never come back.
Posted Thursday December 11, 2008, About: Cubs may send DeRosa to Twins
I think Towle's would rather talk about dealing than actually deal. He has no leverage because he's admitted he needs to cut payroll and Peavy, the obvious candidate, has a no trade clause so he's limited the field. The Cubs have leverage because they don't really need Peavy, although he would be a good addition. Still, Towle tries to dictate the terms and get back more than he's giving up. A good trade should be a win/win, but when one side is desperate, as the Padres are, they have to accept a win/lose trade.
Posted Tuesday June 17, 2008, About: Steaming Steinbrenner blasts N.L.
Apparently it's too much to expect that milion dollar athletes can run 360 feet without hurting themselves. Good thing he didn't trip fielding a bunt or Hank would want to outlaw bunting.
Posted Wednesday July 11, 2007, About: La Russa's snub irks Pujols
It doesn't matter what was riding on the game ($$$, home field advantage, etc.), the players are expected to play to win and the managers should do the same. LaRussa's excuse of holding Pujols out because he needed his versatility is ridiculous. Bottom of the ninth, two outs and one run down? If he doesn't use him then, he never will. That's like dying of thirst when you have a canteen of water because you want to save it in case you need it.
