Posted Friday February 22, 2013, About: Jonathan Papelbon: Phillies lack leadership
As a Phillies fan, those players you just named are among the least likely I'd consider to step up as leaders....

He's right. This team lacks the spark needed to start the fire under their asses that can carry them to another WFC year. Rollins is the self-proclaimed leader, but has failed to do what's in the best interest of the team for the past 3 or 4 years. They have the talent, even with thier advanced age, but they lack the collective drive.

On a side note, I think it's time Moyer faces the future and picks up a jop somewhere coaching. He's great at helping young arms get to know the game. I'd love to see him in the Phil's organization some time soon, at some level.

24+ year career, 4 1/2 years with the Phillies... MAN, I love how intelligent people who bash Philly are.

Its funny (and unfortunate), because besides a handfull of games, Rollins has led off all year, like always. And, Pierre isn't even batting in the top 3. He's hitting # 8 if the full starting lineup is in the game...

Cincy is welcome to Rollins too, if they want him.

Check the stats again... Phillies actually haven't been doing bad offensively this year. They're at least middle of the pack in most offensive team stat categories... But most people in Philly wouldn't see that, because they see nothing other than the fact that they're in last place...

On a side note, PLEASE take Victorino...

No... No... see... I was simply USING the example of that dropped fly to further prove my point that his maturity level is not yet quite up to the MLB standards. He made a stupid mistake by slowly jogging to the ball and then looking down at the ground and loosing track of it.
Posted Monday July 16, 2012, About: Harper draws Guillen's ire
Yeah, I highly doubt he'll be playing anywhere on the east coast.
Posted Monday July 16, 2012, About: Harper draws Guillen's ire
Funny... I was about to say the same thing about Wonder Boy... Man, he really showed his true colors on that dropped fly in KC, huh?

I was going to give Brycie poo the benefit of the doubt this year, especially after Cole pegged him. I figured it was starting to look like MAYBE his immaturity stayed down in AAA. But he's still a genuine jerkoff. Apparently, it's not something that is going to change. I hope he gets plunked quite a bit if he keeps his **** up.

Ozzie handled it wrong. He should have kept his cool and given the sign to hit him. That's the only way this kid is going to learn that he's still a baby in the grand scheme of things.
Posted Thursday July 12, 2012, About: Pence on the block?
I can see trading Hamels- I'm very convinced the Phillies have no upper hand on signing him, regardless of where he finishes the season.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, shop Victorino- he contributes nothing to this team anymore except mediocre defense, horribly ugly swings at bad pitches, and pop/fly outs.

But if the organization truely believes this is just a rough year for a still very good team, Pence needs to stay. He's having troubles this year, but he's stil young, and decent, and VERY outspoken about how much he loves playing in Philly.

last place in their division... not the entire NL

Also, Dawson wasn't on the worst team in the NL that year...

"Could Gonzalez win the Most Valuable Player award while playing on the worst team in the National League?"

Re-read that ****, homie. Think before we speak... It keeps us from sounding like an idiot.

Signing him was a win-win situation. He's still loved in Philly. It was hoped that he could play 1B once a week or once every few weeks. He signed fairly cheap. He did well as DH during interleague play. And MANY in Philly thought it was Jim's final run at a ring before retiring as a Phillie (wishful thinking on most parts).

It wasn't a bad signing at all, but now that it's known that he can't play the field at all, and he's got a bit of a spark in the DH role, why not see if you can't get some much needed bullpen help for him?
Posted Monday June 11, 2012, About: Time for Phils to face disturbing facts
It happens... teams get old, divisions get better, players get hurt...

This team has been streaky since they've been contenders. Fortunately in past years, the rest of the division (save a team or two) has started to completely fall apart by this point. Unfortunately, this year, due to another year with major DL time and a growingly talented and competative division, it's going to be a much higher climb if/when the Phillies decide to start clicking on a positive number of cylinders.
Posted Thursday June 07, 2012, About: Manuel: Everything is 'whacked up'
Golden spoon? Where was that golden spoon last year when the Phillies fielded a line-up missing at least 1 starter for 70-80% of the games? They still finished with the best record in baseball. Grant it, they had a much less competative division to play against last year, but that only counts for so much.

It's still early. This team has been known for absolutely sucking until July. And, with as good as the division is, they're still within reach of everyone at the moment. Talk to me Mid-August. I'll let you know then how worried I am. Then again, even if they're 10 games out going into September, I won't be worried. I've been alive for 26 seasons of baseball. The Phillies have finished playing after 162 more than they've played games 163+. It's not the end of the world.

Not the French Canadianists.
Posted Monday June 04, 2012, About: Injury could cost Doc $20M
If he's genuinely been hurt since March, which seems possible considering how he's pitched, I'm more upset about the fact that he threw hurt for 3 months than I am that he'll miss 2.
Posted Wednesday May 30, 2012, About: Pitching coach suspected Halladay trouble in March
Add him to the list...

The Phillies have been a hurt team since they won the series... It started with Brett Myers in 2009. Utley, Rollins, Howard, Blanton, Ruiz, Lee, Oswalt, Lidge, Utley, Rollins, Howard... All have done stints on the DL in the past 4 years. Last year, wasn't it something like only 30% of games were played with their genuine starting 8 line-up?

Worley wouldn't have been called up if the entire rotation was healthy last year. Galvis wouldn't be a Phillie yet... or maybe Rollins wouldn't be here any more... And yet, it's june. The Phillies are STILL only 4 out, and still a game over .500. Says a hell of a lot for the organization if you ask me. But, then again, I'm biased.

While I feel sorry for Big Roy as a fan of baseball, I'm still not worried as a fan of the Phillies. Halladay hadn't done much to this point this season. They're still finding a way to stay in the mix. Talk to me after the break, and find out how worried I am then.
Posted Tuesday May 29, 2012, About: Bonds talks of rejoining Giants
Unfortunately, baseball is a business. It was a business that almost died after the '94 strike. Buddy boy turned his head to 'save the game'... I can live with that.

These guys still cheated, and lied, and cheated... and soiled countless records because of their selfishness. Sure, Selig is to blame. But he's no more at fault than any other person involved. From trainers, to coaches, to managers, to temates, to the ones who juiced... They're all at fault for the steroid era.

It's just unfortunate that the records will forever hold a smudge mark.
Posted Tuesday May 29, 2012, About: Phillies 'definitely' concerned about Halladay
Only if Worley is taking a decent stay on the DL.

Again, they've had major injuries for the better part of the past 3 years. What's one more? Kendrick and Blanton are stepping their game up. Hamels is pitching better than most expected.

The Phillies may be in last place, but they're still over .500, and only 4 games out. The fact that the NL East is actually a competative division this year is making the Phillies look worse than they actually are. All that is needed is a bad run by the Nats and solid ball by the Phils, and this division is completely turned around again. Hell, the Braves and Mets are already starting to do their thing...
