Posted Tuesday October 06, 2009, About: Why Locker skipped media after loss
When has Locker ever been in any way hot headed?

Jake Locker is the complete package. Great person, great athlete, becoming a great passer. He has more upside than anyone else in CFB right now.
Posted Monday October 05, 2009, About: Weis: Notre Dame deserves higher ranking
Turns out Notre Dame doesn't get credit from the voters for winning a game they actually lost. Both teams sucked and the only reason Notre Dame got the W is because the Big East guys in the replay booth officiated like they were from the Pac-10
Posted Thursday June 11, 2009, About: Huskies QB may sign MLB contract
To clarify:

He can continue playing college football if he signs with the Angels.
The Angels would certainly pay his tuition and he could play football as a walk-on.
He can not hire an agent - that would end his eligibility.
If he signs a contract he would be the Angels' for the next six years. Otherwise he can be drafted again next year.

I think he is putting significant effort into Utah, Hawaii and of course California. I think on one level this is just home town kids pulling the trigger to commit earlier. It is much less of a step for a kid from Seattle to get on board at Washington than one from Provo, Hilo or LA. It is well known that Utah is the fastest growing state by population and Utah has recently had an explosion in BCS talent. While there are clear loyalties to BYU and Utah in place, there are greater opportunities at BCS schools. I think leaving Utah is of particular appeal to the growing Poly population there.

This is a respectable class so far no matter where you are - it is good if you aren't Ohio State, Florida, Texas or USC. This is an up year for talent in Washington. Not an entire class of Rose Bowl talent, but a good chunk. People bagging on Washington talent just haven't been paying any attention to the kids there this year. Now that Sark has built a fence around Washington the key will be to see how he can draw kids from the rest of the West. That remains an unknown but with the seven kids who have signed so far it is should be sending a message to other PSAs that times are changing at Washington - back towards how they used to be.

Based on our 2007 experience against Cal, it doesn't seem so.
Posted Wednesday February 25, 2009, About: Sarkisian's UW honeymoon over
Scrambling to keep a recruiting class intact after the coaching change, Sarkisian signed 18 newcomers and gave himself a "C" for the effort, telling the Seattle Times that the class was "average." The group was ranked as one of the worst in the Pac-10 by the major recruiting services and featured just two players from the state of Washington. While it's unfair to expect a coach to make recruiting inroads in just two months, if you can't sell someone on spending four years of his life in Seattle instead of Pullman or Corvallis, you might not be the best salesman.

-Many recruits said that they were very interested in Sark however he did not have sufficient time to build up the personal relationship they had with other coaches.
-This was a down year in the state of Washington. Signing a lot of kids from CA *IS* building inroads. There is no need to sign a ton of mediocre kids just because they are local.
-In the same vein as above, the recruiting ranks are done by total points, not by average points. A bloated class of mediocre talent is ranked more highly than a small class of high talent. Washington's class is a C. It got decent talent at the positions it needed rather than filling in positions it didn't need with mediocre players and without taking insufficient talent at need positions.

More troubling for Sarkisian, however, are the two recruiting violations that came to light in the past month. Both were secondary violations and won't warrant much punishment, but they were bad publicity for a new coach whose school is still sporting a sizable black eye from last season. Using a fog machine for recruits on an official visit and meeting with a recruit in the presence of a journalist aren't exactly Cardinal sins, but they were both bizarre moves by Sarkisian given that they violate fairly common rules.

-All schools have secondary violations and two is below the Pac-10 average. The only reason these were brought to the limelight is because the anti-Washington crowd (largely USC) doesn't want Washington to return to its 80's and 90's status. It hurts California schools to have their top talent heading north. It is an understandable tactic and I would gladly slander any school that was at odds with Washington.
-Some suggest that all publicity is good publicity. Being in national headlines shows that you are a prominent program.
-The smoke machine rule refers to game day simulations. That is entirely unlike game day at Washington where a smoke machine is not used when entering the field. Taking the PSAs to a funeral would be a better simulation of the past several years of Washington game days. Clearly that last comment is sarcasm but my point stands that a smoke machine is not simulating game day at Washington and thus should not actually be counted a violation. Furthermore there is much debate about what constitutes game day simulation and there is no clear line what part of game day (entering the locker room?) is not allowed.

It's like passing a test on quantum physics and then forgetting how gravity works.
-Having a degree in physics I can tell you we don't know how gravity works. I have passed tests on quantum mechanics and I can tell you that gravitons and so forth are all speculation. I know this is nitpicky but I just want to comment that this analogy sucks as does the rest of this article.

That being said Willingham could potentially serve as an adequate AD.
Posted Friday January 30, 2009, About: Willingham returning to Stanford?
Untrue. Willingham had problems from his players including assault and stealing a taxi. Willingham runs no cleaner a program than anyone else but he gets credit for it because he claims he does. He accepts no responsibility for his own shortcomings and deflects all blame to those around him. When you recruit a player and then say they aren't good enough either you should have recruited someone else or trained them better. Its your own fault no matter how you slice it.

Additionally people say Washington was a mess and needed complete rebuilding. On what grounds? Washington had 27 consecutive non-losing season prior to Willinghams arrival and had won a Rose Bowl three years earlier. The reason Washington was 0-12 last year was because there were no more players that had received actual coaching at that point. Washington has real rebuilding to do now that they have suffered through four years of lazy recruiting and no coaching.

Mora has stated that HC at UW is his dream job - he could very well move from NFL to college for it.
Posted Wednesday November 19, 2008, About: Tennessee looking at OSU's Riley
Riley will not leave Oregon State. Riley is from Corvallis and has a good thing going. If it weren't his hometown it would be different but he is there to stay.
Posted Tuesday November 11, 2008, About: Neuheisel: Washington would be better with me
If I were still in Seattle I would be cheering for RN. He won us a Rose Bowl and he could have won more. No matter what he'd have been better than Lionel Losingham.
Posted Friday November 07, 2008, About: Fired Willingham told to continue recruiting
This is not a rumor. Tyrone is supposed to sell current offers/commits on the tradition, resources, etc and just maintain that line until a real coach is in place.
Posted Wednesday November 05, 2008, About: Oregon losing recruits to OSU
And I wonder why people bother talking about the SEC... People care about the Best coast and not just the Least coast. Last year the Pac-10 was the best conference and is very relevant despite a down year. Oregon and Oregon State are both likely bowl contenders for the foreseeable future - that means they might be playing one of your teams.

It's not over. www.hirejimmora.com can explain why Mora is really still in play.
Posted Monday November 03, 2008, About: Pinkel may top Huskies' list
UW can offer a top 10 coaches salary if we can find someone worth that money. Clearly most people here are entirely ignorant on Washington's history and finances. The only way you'd think that Washington is not a historic football power is if you started following CFB after 2002.
Posted Friday October 10, 2008, About: Huskies eyeing Mizzou's Pinkel?
Washington historically is a much better job than Missouri and will be again with a proper coach. Washington has a lot of things going for it - best school for hundreds of miles around, beautiful location, historic strong recruiting ties to Hawaii and California, strong football tradition prior to the past six years, largest Greek system on the West Coast, large base of donors, etc. Right now there is rebuilding to be done after Tyrone has come through and wrecked the program but Washington has all the right factors to return to national prominence and stay there.
Posted Wednesday October 01, 2008, About: Willingham done at Washington?
Ty's OOC record at Washington is much better than his in conference record. The problem is that he can't beat the teams he plays every year - the rest of the Pac-10. Additionally Washington plays good teams. If the coach isn't able to handle that challenge he shouldn't be the coach at Washington.
Posted Tuesday September 30, 2008, About: Willingham done at Washington?
Willingham has had the worst record of any coach in Washington history. Washington won the Rose Bowl as recently as 2001 (although it is nearing 20 years since a national title). Washington has the second best winning percentage all time in the Pac-10 and is top 20 all time in total wins for a program. There has never been a problem drawing talent and the UW kept graduating players to the NFL until we ran out of Neuheisel's recruits. Tyrone has not recruited players on his own and he is entirely incapable of coaching talent up. The WRs can't catch (sure they are all freshmen, but surely he realized that he needed to recruit WRs prior to last year right?) and no one on defense can tackle. Four games in Washington has ZERO sacks. You get a sack if a QB trips behind the LOS and we don't even have QBs hurried enough to trip. Washington continues to set records for the worst defenses in program history under Willingham. The man also shuts out the media and fans so he can operate under some veil of secrecy. The man also does not have a proper grasp of the English language - but I blame Michigan State for that. There are ample sources of data showing numerous programs that good coaches only need three years to completely coach up a team and turn it around. Washington fan sites are a good source of information for that.

In summary
Washington historically is a football power but is now a bottom feeder under Ty who has the worst record of any UW coach who served a multi-year tenure.

Washington historically has recruited and coached up NFL level talent from across the West coast and that continued until Tyrone became coach. He graduated the last few NFL caliber players from previous coaches and has done a horrible job of recruiting until last year's bumper crop of in-state talent.

The man is entirely against the fan base and has according to a former player (graduated last year) "sucked the fun out of football". - if you can't make us happy with wins at least let us watch practice and tell us how you're trying to right the ship.

It has just become apparent that Tyrone doesn't know how to fix things and doesn't care to.
