OK, one last post just to clarify something, then I'll go. D2, BiG has, for years, insisted that Urban Meyer is a scumbag. When I was a regular on FN (yes, in another guise), I once or twice tried to get to the reasons behind her hatred. The things she made reference to were no different than those characteristic of many other talented coaches and players...not ideal behaviors, but not worthy of condemnation. Jim Tressel, to her, was almost the epitome of everything a college coach should be.
Now that Tressel has shown that he too is subject to the crime of being human (and in fact, did something that Meyer never has, which is get zapped badly by the NCAA infractions committee), I pointed it out and suggested that maybe there would be no more vilification of Meyer. She has declined that request.
Norka, protecting his FN acquaintances, called me cynical and a dupe (something that will haunt me the rest of my days). I responded that true cynics include: see post 754, listing characteristics that BiG has shown in her demonization of Meyer.
That's what this is about. When Tressel fell from grace, I couldn't help myself, having bitten my tongue for months in the past whenever BiG took shots at Meyer.
Sorry, D2... I was responding to norka's comment about cynicism (and indirectly to BiG's slightly unhinged bashing of Meyer). Agree about the need to move on...
Cynics include people who ascribe bad motivations and intents to the actions of a coach they've never been around; people who've never seen that coach's constant work in the community and his church; people who've never been to one of the umpteen family events and barbeques to which the coach invites every player on the team, a coach who attempts to the best of his ability to treat each player like one of his own family; people who have simply decided on the basis of (what?) that the coach is not a good human being.
I love reading people who get all flustered trying to defend their crazy notions of who someone "really" is...someone they've never met and whose actions they interpret in all sorts of twisted ways.
Let there never be another nasty comment about Urban Meyer from any "holier than thou" Buckeye fan. These guys are human beings, they are good at what they do, but they make mistakes and reveal other characteristics of the species.
