Whenyou figure hitters go through 4 weeks of spring training, Then all the BP swings before every game plus 3 to 5 at bats a game. this could explain why hitters goes through so many peaks and valleys through out the season. As Lou suggested with all the time in weight room, seems more oblique strains. Hamstrings pulls seem to be down from what there was 10 years ago. But still happening.

Can Axford solve his problems in Triple A? It is a lot easier pitching to triple A hitters. Leave him pither in Triple A for about a month or when he shows he can dominate Triple A hitters. Then bring him up. If he continues to struggle out of pen with Brewers then the brewers would have no choice but to DFA him.

Concerning pitch counts in 60s and early 70s it was nothing for a starting pitcher to go 130 pitches a game. Bob Gibson DonDrydale Juan Marichal and Fergie Jenkins were all of the same mold. If Their team was in the lead those guys weren't coming out. then there was no such thing as a closer or setup man or no left handed specialist coming into get a good left handed hitter. Relief pitchers only came in if team was down 2-3 runs then a pinch hitter for picher than relief pitcher came in 7th or 8th ining to finish game.

Pitching is one thing the Cubs definitely need. why the Cubs are thinking about trading Samradzija who is probably the Cubs #1or2 pitcher makes no sense. The Cubs should try to extend his contract for a mninmum of2-3 years.The Edwin Jackson so far a has been a major diappointment.Villeneuva and Travis Wood have both also had a decent season so far.after that the number4-5 starters have been less than effective. The bullpen has been a disaster other than maybe Kevin Gregg who has taken over the closer role. Instead of worrying about aqiring Ellsbury If the Cubs Really are, they should be fixing major holes in their bullpen.
