Goddell does have a responsibility towards the league's players, however - as their mistakes need to be well managed - which ultimately reflects poorly on the NFL in terms of their leadership. Let's not forget that some NFL player was robbed at gun point a month prior to Plaxico packing heat. Where was the NFL security detail on this? Let's not forget the Falcons left their $120 mil investment to go and do whatever he wanted every summer - why not spend $50,000/player keeping tabs on them - thats 2.5 million dollars to a team that pulls in much more. The NFL is ultimately a brotherhood, one that has looked out for themselves throughout time (Dexter Manley couldn't read, Lawrence Taylor did drugs prior, let's not add steroids just yet, etc). In summary, Goddel will reign down hard on them - 12 games a piece, but they will play this year - you can't sweep mistakes away, you have to be accountable for them - I would even wager, he should also fine the teams or take away draft picks for their players mistakes. Great risk, great reward.

I've been lifelong since 1985, and I'm adamant Denver's woes has nothing to do with McD, he's now in the realm of puppets - controllable young hungry upstarts that are given opportunities by insane owners - see: al davis, pat bowlen.

Albeit they are division rivals, what other broncos fans think the Hunt family are doing a much better job of transition in KC than Denver is right now?

Sanity counts!

Shanahan is one of a handful of coaches to win back to back superbowl - and it wasn't because he merely had John Elway. He put together a great winning formula offensively and defensively. Last year he managed the #2 offense in the NFL, so it does show he knows what he's doing.

Let's remind ourselves of the REAL problem. Bowlen wanted Shanahan to get rid of his current Defensive Coordinator - Shanahan refused - citing that he's put his team through 4 different coordinators over the past 4 years, and it times' to buckle down and stick with one, he was tired of getting rid of people. Peeved at being told how to run HIS team, Bowlen said, "you're not the boss of me, get the hell out of here, I'll do what I want". He did, hired another OFFENSIVE coordinator to replace the genius that is Shanny.

None of these problems with Denver are McD or Cutler or Marshall's fault, it's the delusion of Pat Bowlen. He wanted to reboot Denver, at merely the worst possible time - with his franchise QB and WR coming off All-Pro seasons, and his long tenured best friend and coach ONE fuggin WIN away from a playoff berth. I won't go into details about lack of running game, or 3 ALL-PRO defensive players being hurt throughout the season, so let's just say - BMarsh and Cutler saw that Denver was going nowhere soon, and want to continue Stellar and Stable careers elsewhere that isn't suffering from Upper Management Office Politics - aka Cincy, Cleveland, Detroits of the league.

Who can blame them? If this was your career on the line, wouldn't you want some continuity?

Here's what you're missing completely - most QBs considered to be traded, aren't considered FRANCHISE QBs - they are EXPENDABLE. Knowing this, would you want to stay? Elway, Rivers, Eli Manning were all traded on draft day, they didn't spend 2 years learning a system, only to startover. Favre did spend one year with the Falcons, but he wasn't even a starter - but lets use that as a point in reference, 18 (EIGHTEEN) years later, they found a suitable replacement in Atlanta! 18!!!!

If he's not the answer, then Bronco Nation is over - might as well relocate and call ourselves the Los Angeles Broncos - a team mired in uncertainty from the top down for decades to come - led by a multiple personality owner. Here's one positive, we might come back with the Orange Crush in this stupid circle of life.

But you're absolutely right, Cutler hasn't taken us anywhere, but that's not his job - that was Shanahan's, now we're left to find out whether another of one Belichek's lackey can win at least 6 games a year. Even if he does, it will be by alienating half the team and fan base.

What people fail to realize is that the NE Patriots are sowing their seeds of ineptitude across the NFL with awful coach spawns. This makes the Patriots look better by facing their inbred offsprings. What do they call that these days in politics - "subterfuge? sabotage?"

I'd take TO in Denver over McDaniels and Bowlen ANYDAY.

Fairwarning, I feel your hurt, I'm with you man - but lets be honest, the 2008 Broncos were some of our favorites to watch since the Elway days - and we were one win away from another season of huge improvements. All our problems stemmed from losing all 6 RBs, depending on Tatum Bell coming off selling Cell Phones, and losing all three of our defensive captains/leaders for long stretches of time (DJ, Champ, Nate). Whilst Josh Barrett is a phenomenal talent, when you put a rookie in to stop Darren Sproles, and you make one bad move and he scampers for 70 yards, you can't really blame anyone.

Nor can you blame us losing to Buffalo, when we gained 600 yards of offense and limited them to 200, but couldn't put points in the endzone, when EVERYONE knew we HAD to throw it.

Bowlen is an idiot, our injuries provided us with a 8-8 season, less injuries next year and we're AFC Champs again! BUT NO, not anymore, we've rebooted. another 4 fuggin years of rebuilding.

Cardinals didn't have a defense, not when you're ranked 19th. To bust out the stats, however, neither did Atlanta, ranked 24th, but still put up winning records.

Keep in mind, Denver was ONE win away from postseason, which proved that Jay Cutler and his surrounding talented offense was good enough to be successful (perhaps not all the way) - which brings me back to my original point, having a stable QB and Calvin will open up detroits offense, and help their defense, which can only lead to more wins and success.

I'm not a DET fan :), but I thought Kitna was a great fit under Martz - and this year they relapsed, costed Kitna his mojo; Rumor has it the Fords screwed with this?

Defense wins championships, Offenses get you there.

hahaha, funniest post of the day - but TO won't let this trump his media impact. I'm sure he'll toss Lee Evans into Niagara to get attention again :)

But, Cutler is not a whiner - a person simply can't work effectively/efficiently when his job security is threatened - there's a great cnn article on how losing your job in today's economy is really stressing out people - cutting productivity - its the same concept here. The morale has dipped.

It's not good business for MacJerk to run around saying things, "Well, If it's in the best interest for this organization, we may consider looking for better options at any junction" to every player here - Denver isn't a 0-16 team, its a team that went 13-3, 7-9, 8-8, and was poised to bounce back to 12-4 with Shanny/Jay. He needs to build that trust, and he's failing horribly at it - worse yet is Bowlen hiding behind his poor decisions.

He wrestled control from Shanahan, to claim, "it's his team, he is more actively involved in the daily operations than anyone else" to only be a jerkface and go back on his word and put all the powers into 2 other inexperienced persons hands.

Bowlen is the problem, not Cutler.

Whilst true that combo can't do it all - they will certainly create buzz/excitement which should up sales (great for free agent signings next year), and serve as a building block for a rapid turnaround. For peete's (not rodney) sake, Calvin lit up teams with whatever qb this year, add a talent like Cutler and this will certainly open up the offense for KSmith and Maurice Morris (who is a very underrated RB). Many teams have succeeded without an emphasis on running the ball - most notably Cardinals, Patriots, and Broncos this past year.

In the end, the conservative formula for superbowl victory really seems to be strong defense and stellar run game (PIT), but who cares - DET only needs ONE win to justify progress :)

This statement undermines Jim Schwartz, a move the broncos would have been wise to replicate - hiring a defensive minded coach to go with their stellar #2 overall offense.

Schwartz will turn the Lions around, his defense in TEN over the past 7 years has been stellar, and he had the privilege to work under the defensive minded Belichek initially.

Throw Cutler in with a rising superstar in Calvin Johnson, build an offensive line around the draft, and Detroit is now a viable contender in a decision filled with question marks at the games top position (Minny+Chi QBs?).

I can even seeing them pickup Crabtree #1, and then filling the rest of the gaps with quality free agents for the line/defense - esp. since Belichek himself created a stellar defense around worn-out vets with vast experience.

Michael Crabtree + Calvin Johnson + Jay Cutler = can't find a harder combo to stop in the next decade.

Jay Cutler + Calvin Johnson?

Could potentially be one of the most prolific combos the nfl will ever see.

Any team would be privileged to have Cutler - just like Elway and Favre, this kid is not afraid to challenge any defense. This mentality is catchy and can turn any horrid offenses (lions) around.
Posted Thursday March 12, 2009, About: Source: Cutler still believes he'll be traded
I've been a Broncos fan for 20 years, and forget Cutler's betrayal, I'm sure other fans felt more betrayed by letting go of Shanahan, who won us 2 superbowls! But I live in Georgia, and I personally believe Calvin Johnson has the traits of being the best WR in the league - if Detroit can land Cutler, draft some OLs, that stinky franchise may come out of some serious funk with potentially the top QB/WR combo for a decade to come. Cmon, look at what Calvin did against double coverage on the worst team in the league - still posted superstar #s. AMAZING.

Cutler *is* a better passer than Elway. But so are ALOT of other good QBs - Dan Marino, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning - etc. But what Elway brought were the intangibles, such as confidence (check, Cutler), toughness (check - Cutler), heart (check - Cutler), fire pass across body and surprise everyone (check - Cutler), poise (check - Cutler), make plays happen out of nothing (check - Cutler, esp. enroute to 4600 passing yards), and respect and admiration of the nfl players and his own team (check - Cutler). Sarcasm is just to get heard, but is anyone going to argue that Kobe Bryant, Lebron James can't do the same things Michael Jordan can? They can and do it better - there's nothing wrong with that, kids today are raised on steroids anyways, they are meant to do better.
Posted Thursday March 12, 2009, About: Source: Cutler still believes he'll be traded
They used to? Elway refused to play for the Colts upon Draft - and won 2 superbowls with Denver instead. Eli Manning recently refused to play in SD and won a superbowl. Cutler is not a whiner or cry-baby as people suspect - the entire Bronco Nation has been betrayed by Bowlens' attempt to become more hands on - and Cutler, as our rightful leader isn't afraid to voice it. Why should he invest in the city of Denver, if they won't invest in him? I think Broncomaniacs not seeing the huge upside of Cutler and all that he brings has been spoiled by something - I just don't know what it is - can't be winning, can't be 4600 yards passing seasons (Bronco Record btw). I think they just don't make FANS as they used to - where loyalty isn't about wins or losses, its about gauging how hard your team as tried, win or loss.
Posted Tuesday March 10, 2009, About: Cutler, McDaniels in no hurry to make peace
Difference here is that all his teammates, and even other people from other teams would die to have this kid on their squad. That's r-e-s-p-e-c-t. But I get what you're doing, stirring the pot somemore like lonely sports writers looking for a story. Denver has never had a QB since Elway like Cutler, and chances are, we're about 20 years from finding another like him. Unless some fans think Jack Elway is the answer ;)
Posted Tuesday March 10, 2009, About: Cutler, McDaniels in no hurry to make peace
Any team would be privileged to have this guy. Let's just hope it's not with KC. They would be formidable with Cutler and Todd Haley, esp. since Denver is thinking of letting go of Brandon Marshall as well - whom they would be wise to pursue.

But I don't get these "Cry Baby" comments, the guy was betrayed, which in essence betrays all REAL fans. For us to bring another QB in here, take another 2-3 years to develop with his teammates, and be literally better passer than Cutler is foolish. The fans would be suffering through the growing pains, which we're now forced to anyways with a Coach young enough to compete in the Madden Video game Tournaments.
Posted Tuesday March 10, 2009, About: Cutler, McDaniels in no hurry to make peace
true, even though our defense showed alot of youth and inexperience in a confused hybrid system towards the end, the lack of running game eventually killed our season. Anytime you move the ball as much and FAST as we did last year (2nd overall in offensive yards), then your defense will getting worn out by being so long on the field. Not many teams win championships without stellar running games. I find it amazing some broncomaniacs choose to ignore we didn't have a RB with over 400 yards this season. This has nothing to do with cutler or shanahan, I personally think it's global warming messing up the ligaments in our rbs.

That's hater talk. When you're worth millions, most likely you're not going to just let anyone roll up on you. I once walked into a bathroom with Mutombo in there, and I had to wait to use the stall - 4 bodyguards made sure I didn't get near. I mean, didn't Javon Walker not teach you haters any lesson? One simply doesn't roll up in Vegas with mad cash on you and not expect to get thrashed.
Posted Tuesday March 10, 2009, About: Cutler, McDaniels in no hurry to make peace
It's obvious all you haters have never seen this kid play? At his age, he's a more accomplished QB than Elway ever could be. And Elway is my idol, so I'm delighted to have this kid take over as the new age legacy of great QBs for Denver. Cutler is more accurate, stronger arm, as much presence in the pocket (note 12 sacks all year, quick release), and tougher (don't believe? then watch 1st play from scrimmage last year, went out and blocked). Elway didn't win two superbowls, a collaborative Dan Reeves roster, and Shanahans ingenuity did this. Elway didn't win more games than Cutler in the first few years, Dan Reeves is notorious for being a winner - look at what he did in Atlanta (just cant get past the big game). But as far as a QB, Cutler is by far the most well rounded qb since Brett Favre. His teammates dig him, respect him, he already is making himself known in the community with off the field activities - this kid is an amazing tool for the Broncomaniacs. He's everything we have been waiting for since Elway, and now we even contemplate letting him go? Are you guys INSANE? Who would replace him? Matt Cassel? Matt Stafford? Chris Simms? Matt Leinart? WHO? Cutler isn't spoiled, he's been betrayed, the same way we all feel when Bowlen cut Shanahan! If Cutler's a crybaby, then all of Bronco Nation is as well.
