How about the 1987, maybe 1988, Cup between Boston and Edmonton when the power went out because the chillers for the ice over heated? Players skating around the ice, in the dark, trying to dissipate the fog. Finally the NHL called the game and was sent to Edmonton to continue much to the dismay of Boston.....like it would have mattered anyways.

I say drop the first round back to a best of 5. That will pick you up about a week with minimizing the financial impact to the owners wanting more games.
Posted Tuesday May 19, 2009, About: Will NHL shorten playoffs?
Want to make a bet? The cooling system relies on the ability to remove heat from around the ice and dissapate it elsewhere...ie outside. If the tempature outside is to great your heat exchange efficiency is reduced dramitically and the temp of the ice can rise to less than ideal tempatures. Looks up info on heat exchangers. Oh and the ice won't literally melt, it just gets really soft.
Posted Thursday April 02, 2009, About: Lemaire's Wild return may hinge on Gaborik
This is true also. And who gets the players? Doug Risebrough has done a terrible job as GM. He signs all the wrong players for way to much money.
Posted Tuesday March 17, 2009, About: Roy always respected Brodeur
The one thing that sets Roy above all else, in my book, is 3 Conn Smythe trophies. No one else in NHL history has done that. Come play off time, there is no other goalie that ever played that is better.
Posted Wednesday January 21, 2009, About: Forsberg back skating
Forsberg's ankle was great before he rolled it playing soccer and ripped up a few tendons. Because of that he altered his skating style, which put undue pressure on the groin, meaning many nagging groin injuries. Then add in the emergency spleen removal in the playoffs a few years back.....this guy's body, with some fault to fall on him, is beat. His heart is obviously still there, but the body can't keep up.
Posted Thursday December 18, 2008, About: Blake's spin-o-rama goal irks Devils
Oh and just for clarity....

Rule 89, Tied games. refer to section B.
http://www.nhl.com/rules/rule89.html
Rule 30, Penalty Shots. Refer to section A.
http://www.nhl.com/rules/rule30.html

So if Blakes move made the puck not move forward, the goal should be disallowed.
Posted Thursday December 18, 2008, About: Blake's spin-o-rama goal irks Devils
From my understanding the shoot-out was more like a penalty shot then a breakaway. With penalty shots the rule has been always to keep the puck moving forward. I have to agree with Holik, shouldn't be counted as the move brings the puck backwards. Bouchard of the Wild, my favorite team, did it last year and I my response was the same, shouldn't be allowed as he didn't keep the puck moving forward.

So if he'd scored 50 goals you'd found a way to keep him, but he didn't so he's gone? Sounds performance related to me.....

he just wants to play with his old drinking buddy, Phil Kessel.
Posted Friday May 02, 2008, About: Sakic suiting up for last time?
I've been an admirer of Sakic for a long time, I wouldn't be suprised if he hangs up the skates. He's had one hell of a career, no 8 on the all time playoff scoring list, 3 Cups, a Conn Smythe, 600+ goals, and the respect of pretty much any person that has put on a pair of skates for the last 20 years.
Posted Friday April 25, 2008, About: Gaborik suffers 'hip deficiency'
Cheatingpatriots, the games are always sold out, doesn't mean a person uses their ticket. A small technicality. If they are so boring to you, why in the world are you watching them? Glutton for punishment? Anyways, Gaborik is a good player, has decent vision and a good skater. He looked like he didn't quite have his skate under him against the Avs. No wonder. I do think the Wild need to get an elite playmaker to pair him with. Too much pressure on Gaborik to score all the goals.

Herzog, isn't it beat my wife and screw my sister? Oh wait...they're the same person, nevermind.
Posted Monday April 21, 2008, About: Wild GM expects Lemaire to return
Trailortrash, I have an easier time staying awake watch the Wild than I do any Nascar event....talk about boring. I'd rather guage my own eyes out with a wooden spoon than watch nascar.
Posted Monday April 21, 2008, About: Wild GM expects Lemaire to return
Not sure if everyone was paying attention, but the Wild outshot the Avs pretty much everygame of the series. Thedore had a really good series and the Avs did a great job clearing lanes so he could see the puck. My hats off to the Avs for playing a better defensive game than a team that is more offensive than most think. Disciplined doesn't mean defensive.
Posted Wednesday April 16, 2008, About: Is NHL officiating in crisis?
This has been some of the worst officiating I have seen. Half the time the refs call a hook a hold, the rest of the time the penalty isn't even a penalty. Someone better get a gripe on this....the refs are deciding the game....not the players.
Posted Tuesday April 08, 2008, About: Bouchard needs good playoffs
Nice work MNSportsfan, couldn't have said it better myself...well sorry I would have replaced Boogard with Simon.

Go Wild!
Posted Thursday March 13, 2008, About: Isles' Nolan, DiPietro at odds
The last time the Ilanders gave out such a long contract to someone....Yashin. He had the same attitude/ego and look what happened to him...bought out contract and now back in Russia claiming that the Russian leagues are better. Well Dipetro could find himself in a similar situation. The Ilanders could try and trade him, but who in the right mind would accept that trade? No one that has any hopes of winning a Cup. Now odds are Nolan will loose that battle and more than likely will be back a lot sooner than last time...that was a battle with a GM and for a rookie coach, just not a good idea. So I don't think he will have much of a problem getting a new job elsewhere. So if management wants to keep a coach that all the players, save one, love, its going to sting a bit but try to trade his ass for a pick or two, or just buy out the rest of his contract and advise every single GM/Coach in the league not to sign him and he is the worst kind of primadonna, one that thinks he is the best goalie in the league when he actually isn't.
Posted Saturday February 16, 2008, About: Forsberg leaning toward Wild?
The idea of Forsberg as a member of the Wild is very intriguing to me. Being a season ticket hold I get sent surveys from time to time. Well in the most recent survey one of the questions was "what do you think to wild should do to improve the team?" My response was, Gabby needs help. Spend the money on an elite player. Drop Boogaard, he has no business on the ice for an NHL team. Adding Forsberg would certainly qualify as my elite player. I think Forsberg would be a great addition to the Wild and would more than like be embraced by the fans....we know a pretty good hockey player when we see one. The odds of it happening? I give it about a 40% chance, depends on how Leiopold can "influence" Rieghsbrough and Lemaire into getting on board with the idea.
Posted Tuesday January 15, 2008, About: Forsberg plans comeback
His feet and ankles are so messed. The only way he makes a comeback, and lets qualify it by saying he has to be 80-90% of what he was back when he played for the Avs, is if some radical new procedure to replace his current feet/ankles with robo feet/ankles. Sorry Peter, I know you want to play and we all would love to have you playing for our teams, but you need to hang it up. Your feet just can't take the punishment anymore.
