bottom line is, it is not that they deserved to be able to hold the draft hostage, its that they could because the system allows it. Steve Young did it.

Get over it. As a father I want the best for my kids, and if I had the ability to do something that would be beneficial to them, I would do it.

As for whether the source is credilbe or not, I just look back to the overall rep of the chargers during the Ryan-leaf era, and they were constantly being bashed for front-office blunders PRIOR to Leaf getting there, so it would not surprise me if it were a true story.
