Except that you're wrong. Unless somebody else in this thread is wrong. I saw a few pages back someone talk about how the dead-ball era ended right before Ruth started tearing it up, and how during Ruth's period the balls started getting changed for, as you said, "even the slightest scuff or dirt stain". Never claimed to be a true baseball fan, i'm casual at best. But they still use hard balls and wooden bats. Hockey sticks, goaltender equipment, net sizes, all of these have changed in the past 30 years.
Very different. The NHL has changed incredibly since Gretzky's era. What's changed about baseball since Babe's day? I never say never about anything, but we will witness the greatest athlete in world history if anybody matches and exceeds Gretzky's numbers.
I noticed a few arguments of contempt for soccer, but I don't think any team trophy is as difficult to win as the World Cup or European Championship. You have seven games to beat the greatest teams in the world's most popular sport. There's a reason only 8 teams have won the World Cup.
Should be pointed out that he only won 4 with the Yankees after becoming a full-time hitter. Right made the argument that he isn't including his pitching era in this TD so technically, for argument's sake, Babe and Wayne have the same number of championships.
HR's result in RBI's, so they're essentially the same stat but glorified (not taking away anything from the difficulty in hitting a home run). And RBI counts are quite flawed. You're getting a stat point for somebody else's work. I don't totally agree with hockey's assists system either (the last passer should get an A, but not the second-last as well if applicable), but setting up goals is a giant part of the sport and is reflective of the player's ability to play a team game. What ability is it showing that, depending on the situation, a slugger can get four RBI's in one play instead of just one?
While it's true that Ruth destroyed many offensive records, he did so when many of those records were still in their infancy. Gretzky showed up about 100 years into the game. Frankly, we could be having this conversation about Maurice Richard and Ruth and Richard would still have a lot of arguments in his favor over Ruth (although in that case i'd probably take Ruth).
Going left, but Gretzky didn't do anything as a player at the Olympics. By the time NHL'ers played in Nagano 98, he was well past his prime (despite still putting up 90 points that season), and the team overall was put together rather poorly. Nevertheless, his record in Canada Cups spoke for itself - 24 GP, 45 pts, 3 golds.
Trust me, the CFL is dead in Toronto, and Hamilton would be just fine CFL-wise if an NFL team moved here.
The Bills in Toronto failed for the exact reason you stated - high prices all around, when it`s cheaper to make the hour drive to Orchard Park. But realistically, the Bills are doomed in WNY. They are a small market without the history, prestige and cache of Green Bay.
Your comment also decides a NFL team in Toronto would play at Skydome, which is never going to happen. There are plenty of places in the city to put an NFL team, but downtown or the currently-developing Port Lands isn`t one of them. Downsview Park would be my guess, with subway connection and proximity to numerous highways. And what, exactly, is the difference between paying absurdly for parking here as opposed to NJ or Dallas or anywhere else for that matter?
