Number 85's instincts and reporting skills aren't that good; anybody who has studied this franchise would know this is still way, WAY too early to have signed their first round pick...

Please... make... it...stop. Anyone. Please. There's gotta be something else to talk about until mid-August.

Sweet baby Jebus, Marv.

Yeah, maybe he did "want to stay in Cincy". That was probably last year when you guys stiffed him of a long term deal and franchised him. He was just a backup then, but you decided to pay him the average of the top five for only one year, as if to say "Well, we don't know about you kid..."

Then, Big Willie refuses to take a pay cut and you dump him and then expect Andrews to just jump into Willie's spot and perform at the same level. "You aren't good enough for a long-term deal Andrews, but you're sho 'nuff good enough to play in the spot of a guy we overpaid a long time ago and wouldn't play ball with us to help out our cap."

What did you expect Marv? (You too Mikey. Can't forget about you.)

Besides, you guys should have your pick of some pretty good OT's at #6. Here's hoping for another Munoz...
Posted Tuesday March 24, 2009, About: Goodell: No uncapped season in 2010
They are gonna half-arse it and jam some garbage in at the last second, just like Taglibue <sp?> did right before he got the heck outta Dodge. It's gonna lack teeth and it's going to be up for review quickly and we'll have this whole thing again in 6 or 7 years.

And here I was hoping for an uncapped year, with even more hilariously worded player contracts.

(Marv loves those character fixer-upers. And they have a knack for screwing up tackle acquisitions.)
Posted Thursday February 12, 2009, About: Bengals unlikely to tag Houshmandzadeh
For those who are interested, even if you are a squeelers fan: http://www.progressiveu.org/092025-history-of-who-dey-chant-for-the-bengals

And the "We Dey" was something that Sgt Slaughter's kid (aka Bill Cowher) responded with when, if memory serves me correct, the Steelers beat the Bungles in the 2005 playoffs on their way to a SuperBowl win as a Wild Card team. The Bungles had gotten a great big head about winning their division and then promptly got punched in the mouth by the Steelers. You may also remember Kimo von Oelhoffen rolling on Palmer's leg and tearing his knee apart very early in the game, but "that's just football"...

As for Housh, I love the guy, he's the only receiver they have who can run a route, and I'd like to have him back, but it ain't happening. Mike Brown won't go for it, will complain about being a "small market", will spend no money in the off-season, and will put a crappy team on the field again next year, complete with Marvelous Marv at the controls. Bungles should have dumped CJ85 to the Redskins when they had a chance, but that would require foresight and that's forbidden in Cincy.
Posted Sunday November 02, 2008, About: Union to challenge 18-game pay plan
This is killing two birds with one stone: Eliminating preseason games (not because they are stinky mind you) and then getting more money from networks because of the addition of regular season games.

Though, in my opinion, once they get a permanent replacement for Upshaw, they really ought to work on the whole "2010 will be uncapped; 2011 will be a lockout" problem before they start adding games and revenue to the endangered salary cap.
Posted Monday October 13, 2008, About: Bengals may bench Perry
Looks like they called their own bluff here. Cincy cut Rudi because he wasn't cutting it and Perry was doing so well in camp. Well, camp is camp. Perry is excellent as a complement back to catch the ball or for change of pace, but he isn't a feature back. He really ain't a feature back when Brat hasn't changed his playbook from "bowling ball RB" to "quick, agile RB", but that shouldn't really shock any Bengals fan whose be following along.

And, I agree, an OL that remembers how to block would be super. Numerous times Sunday I saw 5 guys trying to block 4 or less guys and fail. I don't think Jim Brown would be more than 2 yards a carry behind that line.
Posted Thursday October 09, 2008, About: Lewis denies T.J. trade rumor
As a fan who hopes Marvin is buh-bye after this season, it pangs me to agree with him here. If it were a rumor about trading CJ85, I'd buy it but not TJ84. TJ is the only receiver on this squad I actually believe in; no offense AC83...

However, we all know Mikey really runs the team, so this could actually have legs. And would go along nicely with the "We ain't going nowhere this season so let's blow up the team" philosophy.
Posted Tuesday October 07, 2008, About: Bengals coach on hot seat?
As much as in pains me to agree with a squeeler fan, Steelertini hits it dead on. Cincy football is stuck in 2005 when they almost won a playoff game. Simms and Nantz continuously referred to "back in 2005" during this weeks "almost win". Newsflash: 2005 is over. And, as a fan, I'm starting to think it was a fluke.

Best 0-5 team out there? Puh-lease. When the season is over, nobody will talk about the games the Bengals almost won; just like nobody talks about the games the 2007 Patriots almost lost. Close games are won and lost by coaching.

PW hits the nail on the head. Mike Brown is the cancer and will always be the cancer for the Bengals. And until fans stop buying hats, t-shirts, jerseys, and tickets, Mike Brown will continue business as usual. He's sees a full stadium, why should he change what he's doing? He knows the fans will continue to pour into PBS regardless of whether the team is a winner or not. Who needs scouts, a GM, a competent coaching staff, smart free agent signings, well-payed SUCCESSFUL talent (don't even get me started on the long line of Bengals lifers who were there way past their prime, if a prime was ever had), etc. when you can sell out seasons without them?
Posted Sunday August 31, 2008, About: Bengals to start Perry at RB
Now that I check my memory bank, you are right pw: it was Jones or Steinbach. I remember Jones' signing being the "uh oh" moment for Eric's Aunt and Uncle. Though I'm sure they weren't upset with the Cleveland payday.

I'm looking forward to Watson starting eventually as well. :)

Though, the cut of Rudi has affected our overall Johnson count.
Posted Sunday August 31, 2008, About: Bengals to start Perry at RB
Well, in my opinion pw (and yes, hindsight is 20/20), the only "mistake" involving Willie is that he was signed instead of Steinbach.

Though I agree with the other cuts. Though I feel this is the beginning of a shortage at corner.
Posted Sunday August 10, 2008, About: Bengals throwing more to TEs
My thoughts exactly DEVO.

It took them too long to catch up to the rest of the teams in the division. Everybody else has their decent, if not good, TE in the AFC North and they've had them for years.

Furthermore, they are just lucky in all this: they sign a TE to give them "two" TEs right when their #3 WR gets arrested/suspended/cut/whatever-we're-calling-what-happened-to-CH15.
Posted Friday May 23, 2008, About: Young sorry for Internet photos
This story proves one point: the NFL has some players scared about being a human. There is nothing wrong with what he's doing in the photos, nothing illegal. But with the NFL having an quick trigger about almost everything a player does now, Vince feels he needs to nip whatever bud he can before it gets blown out of proportion and he gets fined/suspended/excommunicated/beheaded by the NFL.

It's sad really.

But it'll all come out in the wash when there's the 2010 cap free year and the NFL gets knocked on its butt.
Posted Monday May 12, 2008, About: Why Bengals won't sign Alexander
Here here YngwieScruggs. I've been a Bungles fan for 19 years now, and I just love to watch the sheep follow what Mike Brown calls a team.

Very, very, VERY good point about Steinbach; they could have had him, but instead they signed two tackles: one who really has yet to prove himself (Jone) and the other who is over the hill but Mikey feels sorry for (Anderson). When Hutchinson left for big money, every one said guards don't matter. And then Alexander's numbers dropped. Now, Cincy just went and used the franchise tag on a guy whose been all over the line whom they want to play guard. They've got 2 high-priced tackles, and 3 other nobodies on the line; they could put Jim Brown back there and he'd still be hurting for yards.

Alexander was NEVER going to sign with Cincy, as was evidence by my comment on this "nugget" from T&R: http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/48750. It was all a feel-good story coming out of the feel-good press corps of the Bungles organization. Geoff Hobson is probably on the FanNation payroll...
Posted Thursday May 01, 2008, About: Alexander interested in Bengals
Cripes. This isn't a story. He's just meeting with them cuz he's got nothing better to do. They aren't going to sign him, they are just humoring him. If he's looking for a big pay day, he's looking in the wrong organization. Ditto if he's looking for a contender. They have a bunch of backs on the roster, none of which they know how to use.

To reiterate, I can't believe this is a story...
Posted Monday April 28, 2008, About: Bengals planning for Chad's exit?
What "curve" is Brat talking about? The curve about half the receivers not knowing how to run routes? The curve about not knowing how to integrate a receiving TE (I ain't buying the Utecht signing...)? The curve about letting your bowling ball of a RB LOSE weight in the off-season? The curve about letting a great lineman go so you can sign an old, broken one?

The only thing Bob Bratkowski has going for him was he was in the right place at the right time when Carson Palmer was available.

And that goes doubly for Marv.

Blow up this team and the office and start over. Again.
Posted Saturday January 05, 2008, About: Fired coaches rip Bengals moves
It's not even a matter of just spending more money on the defense; it's about spending more money period. Ownership doesn't believe in spending money to make money, and now that the Bengals fans have drunk the Marv-ade, it doesn't have to: the stadium is sold out for years to come. Mike and Crew can just look down at a full stadium and not have to worry about putting out a good product. Coaching has always been bad; I haven't seen a half-time adjustment under the Marvin era. The infamous playoff game was a perfect example of lack of adjustments on the part of the Bengals coaching staff.

Don't stop with just the DC and LB coach; they need to keep firing before I believe there will be changes.

And, oh yeah, trade No. 85. I can always join the team and drop the ball on third down...

Funny that you mention Favre and a hot dog in the same sentence. In my circle of fans, we call Brett "Captain Hotdog"...

As for this news bit, nothing to see here. Move along.
Posted Thursday July 26, 2007, About: Peterson: 'It's not about being greedy'
O RLY vonbearsalot?

Two words: Cedric Benson.

His dilly-dallying when he was a top pick is the reason why the Jets were able to STEAL Thomas Jones from your organization. Benson was being force-fed carries because he was "being paid so much": the team wanted Jones, the organization paid for Benson.

As for Peterson, no really, it IS about being greedy. But, if everyone else does it, you have to do it too.

I live in Oshkosh, Wisconsin; therefore I'm kinda in tune with the demographics and culture here. That being said, wasn't LJ once quoted saying K.C. was too conservative for his lifestyle? And he'd let himself be shipped to G.B.?!

Not happening if his agent is worth anything.
