God help this guy. Must have a TON of patience(not to mention admin and school support). Hopefully he gets over the hump for the next few years, and restores this program. Will be interesting to see. Good luck.
TJM is staying. We are losing a couple of guys up front on D, but the entire back 7 returns. They got better as the year went on. Much better.
On the O, Graf slides over to LT, and Walker moves in at RT. The OL was much better this year than anyone thought they would be.
Skill guys??? Off the freakin charts. No power runner to speak of, but with Farmer (who still may move back out to WR) McNeal. Morgan, and Carlisle, we should be ok in the backfield.
It just put it off for a year. Bowl ban is off next year, but scholly sanctions kick in. Good thing is our team is actually really young. The experience from this year, will be huge for the next 2 to 3 while we ride out the reductions. If Lane can convince Barkley to stay, it could work out alot better than most expected. We shall see, but I like the way things are shaping up.
Sorry Tin, but you are wrong on this one. You obviously fail to remember our years with Smith, Hackett, and Robinsons' 2nd time around. We get recruits because we are SC. We get great recruits because Lane and Ed O sell it like a son-of-a-gun. We are winning this year because of the job Lane and the staff are doing. You gotta come to grips with that my man.
It does make it tougher to stay for sure. We have a few things going on our side,
1. He doesn't "need" the money. Barkleys family is not in a position where they are waiting for him to cash in, so he is on his timetable.
2. The O, is LOADED for next year. The only person we are losing on the skill side is Tyler. Woods, Lee, Farmer, a couple of kids that have redshirted, our TE's are getting good looks because of the guys on the outside. This offense has him set up for a Heisman campaign.
3. Bowl ban is off, and if he hangs around we have a legit chance to make a run at the NCG.
4. Lane Kiffin. If anyone can convince him to stay, its Lane. He has done a heck of a job with our entire program, especially with virtually everyone selling that we were heading down the tank.
At this point, doesn't matter who is in Westwood. Lane is doing a terrific job keeping us relevent during sanctions. We are wayyyyyyyyy ahead of ucla, not to mention right on the heels of the ducks. May even make a case for us being ahead of them right now. All I know is, things are REAL good for us. Hell, the domers might still be 3 or 4 years behind. Kiffin sure as sheet is ahead of Kelly.
Geeeeeezus Van. Reading your posts on this topic, I wonder how the domers have any losses at all this year??? Great on the outside, great on the inside, D line and overall D playing well. What the hell is going on over there??? Should be favored by 20??? Do you not know that we have some decent skill guys over here too??? Saturday shall be interesting my friend.
Maybe even first. The guys in tempe have not exactly been very good at finishing seasons. Would not surprise me at all if they ended up with 3 or 4 losses.
No worries there Van. This was me venting more than anything else. People don't want to respond??? Hmmmm. Will still find a way to sleep at night. I am just pissed that we are still stuck to the same penalty we got from this ****. I have heard talk about the u not getting even as much as we got. Are they freakin kidding me with that???
Seeing the current, and future kids at the u being punished I am not a big fan of either. Wish there was a way to get dooshbags like Dee. That being said, the program has to face punishment. We got it, so should they. You guys already know my feelings on the others.
Ok, time for you guys to get all over me, but I like Kiffin on this list. Actually I would put him 2nd behind Fisher. Don't worry, I have some reasons...
We lost 3 games last year that could have/should have been wins. The cardinal, huskies, and friggin domers were handed games. We were not able to close for different reasons (kicking game, D, and the dropsies). All of those things are much improved for us this year, and like him or not, Lane does a hell of a job with QB's.
The D scheme was too much for some of our guys last year. Some freshman were thrown into the fire, and other guys were playing out of position. A year under their belts, and things will be much, much better.
Our kicking game is probably the biggest place we improved. When your kicker is iffy from 25 yards out, it absolutely affects your play calling. The new kid is solid from up to 50, and is even respectable from beyond that. I can see us picking up 10 or 11 wins. We get a bounce or two, and if Kelly up in eugene is on the hotseat, it's not completely out of the question that we can give the ducks a rough go this year.
To answer your Q Tin, yep it was the duckies. Like I have said, we have taken ALOT of crap the last few years. Alot of people spoke down to us, way to soon. The penalties for all the recent (and soon to come) programs in trouble, highly intrigues me.
Oh yeah, we are whipping your asses this year Van. In your place, under your lights, for all the world to see. :o)]
The ncaa's references to our lack of compliance was the basis for our punishment. It wasn't a compliance department that snubbed their nose at rules, it was vastly understaffed at the time. They could only do so much.
A head coach who had knowledge of rules being broken, then failing to act on it, on top of lying to the ncaa about it??? Not the same thing at all. Everyone knows tosu (and Tressel) cut their losses trying to save their ass. The hammer is coming down hard on them, and it should.
You have never heard me say that Pete, or whomever on our staff had "no idea". As much as I love my team, will never say we are always squeaky clean. Alot of stuff goes on, and I would hope the staff has at least some idea of what's going on with their players.
However, there is no direct evidence that Pete did know. That's what intrigues me about tosu, oregon, and unc. Either a head coach, or a member of the staff they have dead to rights. That is why I keep saying their punishment should be harsher than ours. If their punishment isn't worse, then how can anyone be held to any written rule??? Kiss the ncaa's ass and it won't be as bad, so go ahead and break any rule you want??? Will be intriguing to see.
