Wow...so much jealousy here. I'm not a big fan of the one-and-done, either, but as long as it's the way it's done then so what? It's not as if UK is the only school where this is done. I have a great respect for most of the elite schools and they all are extremely competitive at recruiting. For Calipari, he's brought huge amounts of success to UK and recruits see that. If Indiana, Duke or any other school wins it all this year, don't you think that will make them more attractive to recruits? Calipari has proven he can get players to the NBA. What else do they need?
As for the cheating comments, I also have reservations about Calipari's reputation. However, unless you can prove wrongdoing, I'd keep my mouth shut. Of all schools, UK knows what can happen if cheating occurs. On top of that, Calipari has not been implicated in the UMass and Memphis scandals. When folks get on these forums and make cracks about the scandals, I just nod and smile - jealous is an ugly, ugly thing.
It's amazing the people that attempt to paint a certain group as ignorant by showing their own ignorance. UK is an excellent institution of learning. Anyone saying otherwise is purely ignorant. Lexington and Louisville are both decent sized cities with educated populaces. Yeah, there are hillbillies in Kentucky, but I've traveled all over this country and, without fail, each state has its version of hillbillies. So, when I read comments such as this one, I just smile because, clearly, this person is probably his home state's Jethro Bodine.
Really? Kentucky has done more for the game than most other schools combined. You are welcome to hate the coach, but a) he's not been implicated in ANY wrongdoing and b) UK has kept its nose clean since the Sutton debacle. I love the haters, though - means we're certainly doing something right.
Ha! Kentucky should thank its lucky stars for Louisville every day (I'm a UK grad and Wildcat fan, but still...). This hillbilly state would be 1000% worse off than it is if it weren't for the one big city it can claim. Take that stuff somewhere else!
As for Pitino, he shouldn't be taking "shots" at anyone.
Lots of ignorance, as expected, about Kentucky and Kentucky football. Yes, Kentucky fans are tough, but considering our football team is mediocre year in and year out, yet manages to consistently fill (if not sellout) Commonwealth Stadium every game, says a LOT about Kentucky fans. So, haters, hate on - Kentucky fans have few peers when it comes to team loyalty in both basketball and football.
