Djokovic earned this title by playing supreme tennis. He is at that next level and looks dominant.
This was Murray's worse ever GS Final performance, being completely obliterated by his close rival. He continues to insist on pushing and playing defense out there but that will never get it done against the best. Some first serves wouldn't hurt either...
Gotta give props to DJ Okovic, he took Murray to school.
It will be great to see Murray & Djokovic battle it out for this Slam. Both will be feeling a ton of urgency to win and the one who loses will be totally devastated.
Nice to see the two other guys in the Top 4 take that next step, they've both paid their dues over the years. This match will be a toss-up, but I'd have to go with Djokovic in 5 sets because he looks very solid at the moment.
I watched Federer's matches in Doha last week and he is playing unbelievable tennis (i.e. Davydenko match)! I know Rafa is his biggest threat out there but the guy has looked extremely sharp since the US Open. Obviously their respective Grand Slam draws will have a lot to do with what happens but Roger seems very focused right now.
Take Nadal out of the equation and everythig looks a lot more possible for Fed. Rafa is by far his toughest match-up but I believe Annacone's coaching will make the difference for him in 2011.
Federer beating Nadal in the final of the season ending championship was very sweet! This win will give him tremendous confidence for 2011 and proves to everyone that he has at least 2 more very strong years ahead of him.
Rafa will enjoy his 2010 success but this loss will leave a slightly bitter taste in his mouth during the off-season. Federer on the other hand is like Jamesbo said, now completely "rejuvenated" and ready to show the world that he is still the gold standard in tennis.
Federer adding Annacone was a great decision. His game is still there (Australian Open Title , Toronto Finals, Cincinnati Title), but his consistency is starting to go. I don't expect Fed to be #1 again, but I do expect him to win more slams.
Nadal should get credit for his accomplishments, but nobody dominates like Federer at his best.
Nadal taking extra time during changeovers and between points is definitely a psychological tactic. He is absolutely stretching the rules doing that just like when he's being coached by uncle Tony while he plays. Petzchner was on his way to upsetting him at Wimbledon this year when Rafa decided to slow things down and call a trainer. Everyone knows that he was just trying to kill his opponent's momentum and it worked. The guy is absolutely desperate to win and he will exploit the rules to make that happen.
I'm with Mr D, I hope Fed gets his ultimate revenge for Wimbledon 08 & Australia 09 by absolutely demolishing Rafa in the US Open Final! Roger is a class act and he is the only one who can stop Nadal in his tracks.
Maybe this Wimbledon was the end of the "Fed Era" in tennis. He'll certainly compete for more Slams, but now at #3 in the world it seems like things are changing for good. It's been awesome witnessing his outright dominance and tennis fans have been spoiled by his undeniable genius.
Federer as the underdog will be the new story going forward and it'll definitely be fascinating to watch!
