With the loyalty teams display to players he owes nothing to the Cubs. The 10 and 5 rule is a right they earned. If you had that right would you move to a new job for a different company in a city you don't want to live in for the sake of your old company?
I live near Atlanta, there's no way I'd want to play outdoors in this heat and humidity.
One sort of neat aspect is that Sliding Billy Hamilton stole 914 bases from 1888-1901. He's in the hall of fame if you're not familiar with him. He had a .344 lifetime batting average, too.
This assumes I'm offered a job some place I want to be and not Helsinki, where it's cold, or some godawful provincial town in Greece. (I'd love to be in Greece, but not now with the turmoil.)
Frankly, if I could live in one of the beautiful European cities why in hell would I rather play in Cleveland or Salt lake City. Given the choice I'd rather be over there than in some awful city in the US. Minnesota? The Twin Cities might be a nice place to live, but the winter weather isn't that nice.
Stop going to games and stop buying NFL stuff and you can get the message across. Sitting here and complaining, even if you're 100% right about these morons, and you are, won't accomplish anything except raise your blood pressure and kill you younger.
I still keep up with the game, but I don't watch it much anymore and I never spend a cent on anything related to the NFL, except stuff I'd buy anyway which might sponsor the broadcasts.
I know most people aren't going to go as far as I have, and I understand that, but money is all they care about and you have the money in your pocket. Refuse to give it to them and they'll listen to you.
The Yankees are risking signing a really pissed-off guy to a three year contract. I dunno if that'll really hurt the team or not, but it won't help, especially when you consider that his skills are going to decline more and more and be more and more noticeable.
On the other hand, how many teams have won with an old SS? I forget the number, but basically, it's none.
So, it's a bad situation for them all. But frankly, I don't feel sorry for any of them.
As dfkjbv says (sort of) above, there will still be plenty of Yankee fans even if he plays for the Mets.
