The only way it makes sense is if this is a part of a package deal with another team, but how would Washburn and/or Clement a better package than Delmon Young or Young/Humber or Young/Boof?

I don't know if I would say Palpelbon is the best closer (he is VERY GOOD). I prefer Nathan (but I am biased). I will say however that Palpebon has got the craziness factor going for him, which ie a real plus for a closer. You step in the box against him and you don't know what you are going to get...or where.
I'm sure some previous post has said this, but I'm not reading through a 100 or so posts...I don't have the patience.
And I agree with Twins Fan that April games may get a bit brisk, but October...
no way we're cold when the Twins are playing in October, even in single digit weather.
