I wonder if Joe Mauer gets pressured to wait take the highest offer and signs with the Yankees will be the last straw and there will be very big push to get a salary cap (or equivalent)? A similar thought with Pujols but a little less so as he is not a home town kid. ...................probably just looks that way from my Twins fan perspective.

I'd take 15,000 seats full than 4K-7K that are showing up in Phoenix, Atlanta, etc. every night (actual paying attendance and people in the seats is much lower than announced crowd).

If what it takes to be in the NHL is 20,000+ full paying seats every game only what, 10 cities should have a NHL team.

They got to go back to the 'Peg. Make things right.

It won't come down to money, it will come down to years. The Twins will offer a 1 year deal, or a year plus team option for a second at most. I am sure he will try for two to three guaranteed. If he can get 2-3 years elsewhere he won't be back. It's too bad cause he has been valuable on and off the field since coming over from the A's.

This would be a terrible trade all around for the Twins. First off, they do not need another starter. They have 5+2 (Baker, Lariano, Slowey, Perkins and Blackburn and Boof and Humber as the other 2). Secondly, if they really think they can't get it done with these 7 and need a vet, they should go the free market instead of trading away Delmon Young. I'm sure they still have Livan's, Ponson's, Ramon Ortiz's phone numbers.

The only way it makes sense is if this is a part of a package deal with another team, but how would Washburn and/or Clement a better package than Delmon Young or Young/Humber or Young/Boof?

-12 here in Minneapolis. This is a heat wave though (has been in the low -20s)

I don't know if I would say Palpelbon is the best closer (he is VERY GOOD). I prefer Nathan (but I am biased). I will say however that Palpebon has got the craziness factor going for him, which ie a real plus for a closer. You step in the box against him and you don't know what you are going to get...or where.

Seems like a good idea. The Red Sox haven't spent a whole lot of $$ this off season on new additions so they have the $$ to lock up some of their talent (Youklis, Pedroia and Papelbon).

I'm sure some previous post has said this, but I'm not reading through a 100 or so posts...I don't have the patience.
