MLS season is what 32 games?
How can we get better without playing games?
If MLS can't provide it, then the USMNT should for our top players.
It would give you time to integrate Jones and any other wannabe americans.
(an aside - your national team should be where you were born.PERIOD. No shopping for a team. Otherwise national teams are nothing more than galaticos.)
I'm not saying stick with the same 11 players for every game.
I'm saying call up everyone at various times.
Torres, Bradley, Clark, Larenowicz, Donovan, Dempsey, Edu, Adu, Bornstein, Spector, Marshall, conrad, arnaud, twellman, cooper, thorrington....
How many keepers could we call - Howard, Hanneman, guzan, is rimando american?, keller, ...
Seriously, we have more depth and starting keepers than england does.
D-wreck seriously - read the entire post before making disparaging comments.
Our players need the money especially if they are in MLS and they should play more important games.
Everyone from #1-52 in the world.
We have the depth.
Bring in Beasley, Adu, all the CM's including Beckerman would get time and Holden.
Let's find the next great forward.
Let's work on the defense.
The US is 300 million people, we have the depth countries like England would dream about.
We are the size of europe. We should play as many games as Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Germany and England combined.
Therefore if a team is relegated, either the better team in town takes over the lease or they share the facility(like the SPL).
This is not 40 teams.
Unless you propose a East and West or American and National league of 20 each.
I just dislike owners like the Clippers or Red Bulls being incompetent and making money simply by owning a team vs. having a decent team.
I have no problem with a WBA getting promoted and then relegated. They have a shot.
This is the US. the Throwball has had several competitors start up. USFL and the current UFL.
There is no way a billionaire owner is going to simply buy the KC Wizards if he/she lives in NYC.
Yes, the local billionaire will, but the league can't make an owner sell.
I just think it's BS that they have set up a oligarchial system where no other communities can join the party.
Most families don't have FSC.
And again, up the salary cap so Keller is correct that football players are as big as throwball and baseball players.
I mean the more soccer the better, but I'd rather see one league with promotion and relegation.
How about that idea?
I was glad they didn't swith the game to ESPN2 from ESPN when it cut into sports center.
Of course the idiots talking about bird and magic mentioned nothing about the game that was on the channel.
Let's talk about tall old guys.
means 1 out of 20588 play MLS.
Youth soccer is doing a horrible job producing MLS players.
1 in 3 or 1in 4 is pretty good.
How many all-americans aren't playing professional soccer?
117 D1 soccer programs and only 340 MLS players. 1 in 6.88...
College soccer is doing a horrible job.
My point is there are only 340 spots in the US.
And the pay sucks.
Real job or $17K/year.
Give me break. $50K minimum and more college players will go pro vs. a job.
If MLS paid what Dundee or Aberdeen paid, every MLS team would be better.
Holden would be smarter to go to a team below Aberdeen or Dundee.
I'd rather beat Rangers or Celtic, but wait they are the only ones who can afford to pay enough to turn a players head.
It's great to have the support of old firm fans, but wouldn't it be better to beat them?
You expect Man U to win. Fulham and others not so much which is why it's great to earn europe births.
just my 2 cents
If the ball goes out of bounds or crosses the goal line and isn't called a goal, and the team counterattacks are score - 20 seconds to 1 minute later, do you just add stoppage time?
Honestly, as a coach it shouldn't make a difference, because you should play to the whistle and if the ref makes a bad call keep playing. complaining will get you no where.
There should be someone watching the video and replay.
People aren't upset when it's jsut over the sideline, but blatant stuff.
And this is another drip of the flood gates of american soccer dominating the world in 4 years.
I think we will do well this year. But the more opportunities people have to play soccer - MLS expansion, USL expansion and alternate league the more kids will play and the better athletes will see soccer can get them out of the neighborhood also.
What a concept. Let the market(performance on the field, fans, tv) dictate the teams
Kidding.
I fully think MLS should have promotion and relegation or teams owned by the fans.
Otherwise the issue is a bad owner gets to stay where they are.
I might be able to say I'm not going to another Red Bulls game, but will 10,000 other NJ's to make them go out of business. Unlikely.
So they plod along underachieving and not giving a compelling reason to come to the stadium.
