Agreed that the Barn's secondary was straight garbage, but you know what their defense always came through when they had to. Yes they were down big to two bad teams in Georgia and Clemson, but they came back and won, just like they did against good/very good teams like Alabama (at Bama), South Carolina (beat em twice), LSU, Arkansas, and Miss. St. That was their MO this entire year. They are very clutch and deserving of the national championship. That said, there is nothing about that program that isn't dirty as all get out...their defense plays dirty, their oline plays dirty, their head coach is a slimeball, and their Heisman QB came with a $200,000 price tag...I hope they get slammed by the NCAA.

And yeah it stinks for TCU that they did everything right and were still left in the cold, but they certainly aren't the first team to have a legitimate beef like that. Further proof that we need a playoff.

Haha like when y'all reelect Harry Reid? Eh if it makes you feel better my state still can't even host the NCAA tournament or any other NCAA sanctioned events because we're too stubborn to back down on the Confederate flag issue.

And woohoo touchdown LSU!

Agreed. Herbie's good, but Mark May is awful...only Palmer's worse than him. Not a big fan of Desmond either. Trev Alberts was my favorite, I miss him. Best recent hire ESPN made was Mike Belotti. He called Clemson's bowl game and did a great job.

Oh and did you hear that ESPN fired Ron Franklin? Truly the end of an era. Hopefully CBS picks him up.

I like Gregg Allman, hearken to his GA roots. Then again, whatever Cat Stevens changed his name to...Yusuf something?...is probably even better since he looks like a dirty hippy now. He should walk out to some Panic or Dead song every game he starts.

Haha you good sir are a great LSU fan

I honestly would put that game more in the "Thoroughly Outcoached" category. As a Clemson fan, I have become well-acquainted with that category in the past 15 years or so, so I know when to spot it. Auburn's OC that year couldn't coach himself out of a paper bag, and it showed in the way that team could only manage 8 wins (one of which was in the bowl game) despite having Ronnie Brown, Cadillac Williams, Jason Campbell, Brandon Jacobs, Ben Obamanu, and Courtney Taylor in his offense. Hire a new OC in 04 and suddenly that offense is unstoppable. A great coordinator really can make all the difference (see Mark Richt with Bobby Bowden, Rich Rod with Tommy Bowden, Gus Malzahn with Gene Chizik, Sark with Pete Carroll, etc.). And this is coming from someone who really dislikes Auburn.

That said, I agree with you about SEC fans. They are great fans, but they are super prideful, obnoxiously arrogant, and will rationalize any loss. Jesse Palmer is the perfect stereotype...blah I can't stand him.

For a preseason top 5 team like Auburn was that year? Heck yeah that's awful! The fact that 8-5 is now considered a good season at Clemson is reason enough for me to want to run our head coach and AD out on a rail. And as someone who grew up in SEC country, I don't doubt that it has been the best conference in football for the better part of the last decade, but that's only because their teams at the top have been so good. The bottom half of the league is always hogwash. Both the ACC and Pac-10 are deeper, but unfortunately for the ACC we have no great teams...just a bunch of mediocre ones.

Hopefully Barnes has learned to behave himself around the coeds in Austin...that got him in deep doggy doo at Clemson and was one of the reasons why he hightailed it out of here in the classless way he did. Great coach though and I'll never forget how awesome he used to be when he would stand up to Dean Smith.

Yes, but 2003 Auburn was awful and finished the year with something like 7 or 8 wins. Now 2004 Auburn, on the other hand, was incredible thanks to a new OC who turned Jason Campbell into a good QB and figured out how to use Cadillac and Ronnie Brown. They destroyed practically everyone on their schedule, including a top 10 UGA team and top 15 LSU and Tennessee (twice). They really didn't have a close nailbiter game all year. I don't know if they would have beaten USC that year cause USC was unbelievable, but they would have wiped the floor with Oklahoma. And IMO 2004 Auburn would beat 2010 Auburn by 7-10 points. Tommy Tuberville was a great coach.

Good news is that you never know when another SEC school might pull a Phil Fulmer on Auburn. I would love for someone like Houston Nutt to go out in a blaze of glory by spilling the beans on the Barn. Chizik's dirty as all get-out, you know darn well that Newton's not the only player that he (well, really Bobby Lowder) bought.

The blessing and curse of being located in a mega-media capital like LA. Don't forget all the years of excessive hype and talk of a 3-peat in 05 (even though LSU was the BCS champion in 03 and Auburn went undefeated as well in 04) and the series on how 05 USC was the greatest team in college football history...it was so great when Texas beat them in the Rose Bowl that year. So really it goes both ways.

SMU would tell you the same thing. Did you watch that ESPN 30 for 30 on them? It was great.

Good guess! She actually used to live there, but now she and my stepdad live in an apt across from the Sahara. I still think it's hilarious, cause she's super straight-laced and doesn't at all fit into the LV stereotype. My stepdad is the CFO for Clark County Schools, and my goodness gracious y'all fund your schools even worse than SC and GA. And that's saying something, because Clemson is only 14% funded by the state of SC.

Oh and pootie, I don't know if there's anything to this, but some people have been saying that the NCAA held off on hammering Auburn because they didn't want a mid-major in TCU playing in the national title game. I really hope it's true, but if Auburn, UNC, and Ohio State all emerge from everything they've done without any sanctions at all then I'll lose my last shred of faith in the NCAA. Auburn and UNC especially...those hypocritical Tarheels deserve extra punishment for what they did too Clemson in the early 80s when they lobbied for an extra year of probation on top of what the NCAA handed down.

Ugh Terry Don, I've had my pitchfork ready since the Carolina debacle, along with everyone in Clemson minus James Barker and the Board of Trustees. He was good when he first came, I'll give him that, but post-2005 he's been straight awful. Men's soccer (probably our most nationally respected program along with baseball and golf), women's soccer, women's basketball, and now football have all tanked it. He bungled the firing of Trevor Adair (who was innocent), he bungled the scrapping of swimming and diving (which I had the lovely joy of covering for the paper), and he bungled the forced retirement of Jim Davis. He made a great hire in Brad Brownell, but really he backed into that one after stupidly offering the known cheater at Miss. State the job when Purnell left and thankfully got turned down.

Football was the final straw though. Instead of letting Tommy Bowden go to Arkansas in 07, he gives him a contract extension with a $4 million buyout. He then fires Bowden halfway through the next season. And then, when we finally have the chance to start fresh, he turns down Gary Patterson, Troy Calhoun, and Bud Foster in favor of our WR coach, who has never even been a coordinator before. He then allows said-WR coach to hire an OC who also had no previous experience as a coordinator. And now, when we have Ralph Friedgen (who has made a career of wiping the floor with Clemson) practically begging to be given a shot at OC, he allows our arrogant and stubborn head coach to completely ignore him in favor of a guy who has been a college coach for one year. Oh and not a single fall sports program finished with a winning record in ACC-play. Yep, I love the guy.

Of course. You gotta respect The Facebook. Mark Z. was Time's Person of the Year after all. But yeah, check it now...I'm the girl with the boy name (it's a curse) that just friend requested you.

Ditto, and especially after the Carolina game when he threw that stupid pick 6 and then cussed everybody out on the sideline after getting benched and refused to talk to the media after the game. I couldn't believe Dabo started him in the bowl game...any coach that cared diddly squat about having control over his team and program would not have started - much less played - a player that told him to "Go F himself"...his butt should have been shipped off to Colorado the day after the Carolina game. Good luck to the Rockies with him is all I can say.

Just wanted to say that this is by far the best soccer board I've found on the interwebz, so I figured it'd be good to finally join. The fact that y'all talk about college football too and have posters from Las Vegas (my mom actually lives there now) finally won me over haha.

A good friend of mine is a walk-on WR and absolutely loves Tajh, says the WRs all prefer Tajh to Parker (since unlike Parker he actually practiced with them in the offseason, go figure) and thinks he'll be our best QB since Whitehurst once he gets some more game experience (and proper coaching). I'm sure he'll struggle at the beginning of next year with the new system, young WRs, and our always iffy-OL, but I think he can be great with the new spread offense that the old Tulsa OC is gonna bring. There's a reason both Oregon and Ohio State wanted him so bad. He's gotta cut down on the drinking though, he's got a nasty beer belly right now. Ditto for Jamie Harper.

And d-wreck yes I promise I'm a real gal, facebook proves it! I'm just weird about sports, comes with the territory of growing up with three older brothers. Any proper southern girl knows her way around college football though.

Hah so I'm guessing you went to Clemson before both programs tanked it? My oldest brother was there for both the Onyewu and Holden years...must've been nice to have at least one great sports team as a student...

Then Auburn's slime of a head coach turns around and steals our head coach's cheesy "All In" slogan this year...pfft what a waste of a rip-off. Then again, it does kind of fit if he's talking about his recruitment of Cam Newton.
